Exacting stone components made by Parler's workshop in European context

The present work relates to the transfer of the inspirational elements used in St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague focusing on the hanging bolts in the sacristy of the cathedral. Two architects, Matthias of Arras and Peter Parler, participated in the construction of St. Vitus Cathedral in the 14th. Century Both of these builders were inspired by the most important buildings of contemporary Europe and the experience they gained was incorporated in the Prague cathedral. Through thorough research of the life of Matthias of Arras I am able to describe this builder as a unique personality who used a bold modern style for the construction of Prague cathedral and laid the foundation for cathedral architecture in Bohemia. Subsequent analysis of selected buildings constructed in the south of France during the 13th. and the first half of the 14th. centuries reveals many features which exhibit common characteristics with elements used on St. Vitus Cathedral, thus indicating the sources of inspiration for Prague cathedral. Both builders work meets in a space called "Old Sacristy" decorated with two unique pendant bosses. Philosophical Expression of Cathedrals by Bc. Martin Slavík The dissertation is devoted to the topic of the sacral gothic architecture, namely the construction of medieval cathedrals, in which architecture seeks the deeper philosophical and theological context of the period spirituality, cosmology and the perception of correspondences of man and the world. The research dives in sacred geometry and architecture of the golden number that corresponds to the Pythagorean mysticism of numbers. The work is based on a broad theoretical base, which includes philosophy, theology, psychology ( especially Jung and by him affected the current archetypal psychology, further daseinpsychology and psychological sphere influenced by philosophical reference of Martin Heidegger ). The work is multidisciplinary, although its centerpiece are always cathedrals in the context of the medieval world. The work also mentions specific status of the cathedral in a broad spectrum of sacral architecture and on this basis reveals the spiritual interconnection of medieval and ancient world. Development Gothic supporting system

The diploma thesis deals with the development of Gothic supporting system. In particular, chronologically arranged chapters are given examples of individual buildings, which are grouped into chapters according to their geographical location. Starting with the first supporting systems, as well as the Gothic style in France, we come to the spread of new ideas into neighboring countries such as England, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany and the Czech Republic. Next chapter is devoted to the supreme form of the support system using the example of the cathedral in Amiens and Cologne. Whole work closes chapter devoted to St. Vitus Cathedral, as a leading work of Peter Parler with a detailed description of the support system of the high choir and transept. Image makers of the Czech Catholic Church, 2011-2013

The aim of my thesis is to analyze Czech media throughout 2011-2013, focusing on events that influence the public opinion when it comes to the Catholic Church. In the first part of my thesis, I will consider the Church a company, applying a company's measures to the Churches' communication activities. The following part will be dedicated to an overview of each year and the events that took part in the creation of the image of the Catholic Church. The third part will hold an analysis of the persons, which have a hand in creating the image as well. Thanks to their activities in the field of media, I will consider them to be the Image makers of the Czech Catholic Church. The last part of my thesis will include a more thorough look at the problematic of the dispute over the Cathedral of St. Vitus, Wenceslas and Adalbert. The closure will offer my view of communication activities of the Catholic Church.

Transformations of Sacred Space.

The Christian church has been an inherent part of human continuity for more than thousand years. The external appearance of the Christian church has always reflected societal transformations as well as turning points in history. Moreover, it has become an integral part of our existence both in space and time. Nowadays, we frequently hear that the crisis of European society is in effect an identity crisis, an inability to ask about where we are heading and what the meaning of life is. The reduction of time givenness to the already limited scope of our own physical existence destroys the ability in a man to ask questions and find answers to them, or even enquire about the meaning and essence of things. The carefree, dispersed husk blown by the wind may seem to be free and independent; however, it has also stopped trying to actively find paths for future generations. One of the fundamental attributes of an architect should be a strong aptitude for synthetic thinking, which includes multiple knowledge of social cognition, i.e. in the currentness of present experience as well as in time. This knowledge should ideally help to identify the core of problem, and to define the general rules applicable, regardless of changes in social demand, trends or taste. This dissertation, concerned with the “change” of the Christian church, ought to provide a compact, effective platform based on a synthesis of all analytical findings in the areas of architecture, liturgy, history, and theology. This platform can be applied in architectural practice, education (both architectural and theological), pastorage, and other wide, well-researched social discourses on the current form of the Christian sacred space, its basis and likely future development. The emphasis should be put on individual interpretation of a target group rather than dogmatic interpretation of dramatic revelations. Therefore, the first half of the dissertation will analyse the theological and symbolic basis, and historic transformations. Whilst, the second half will depict the current approach to the creation of sacred space in both newly built churches and the ongoing conversions of existing spaces. In conclusion, the dissertation will debate the future direction of sacred space in post-Christian Europe.

Modern Sacral Architecture.

The thesis deals with European sacral architecture of the twentieth and the twenty-first century. Particularly, it refers to Judaic, Roman-Catholic and Islamic buildings. The second part puts into historical context the sacral constructions of individual religions including their function, characters and typology. In the third part of this thesis the representative sample of significant modern sacral constructions is selected, always under circumstances regarding their creation, the urban description and the setting in a specific location as well as the architectural layout, the interior arrangment and a possible use of special technological procedures at their construction. The mutual comparison and the evaluation of the modern European sacral architecture development are carried out in the fourth part. This section notices the function and the usage of light and presents some extraordinary buildings from this point of view. The final fifth part tries to answer the question, how a modern temple should look like.

Historical Development of Liturgical Space and its Reflexion in the Architecture of the Brevnov Monastery

The work deals with the historical development of the liturgical space and the architecture of the Břevnov monastery. The first part describes all building styles which were applied to Christian churches and their influance on the worship. It also includes numerous examples of important sacral buildings in our country as well as abroad. Next it deals with the changes concerning the liturgical space and liturgy itself after the 2nd Vatican Council and gives some examples of Post-Council churches. The subject matter of the second part is the Břevnov Monastery. First it briefly describes the history of Břevnov and its architectural development from Romanesque period to the Baroque style. In order to understand its constructional development it was necessary to mention some notable people and historic events that influenced the outer appearance and the inside structure of the monastery.
