Eating disorders focused on anorexia and bulimia nervosa.
Zinková, Alžběta ; Bláha, Pavel (advisor) ; Zamrazilová, Hana (referee)
The study deals with eating disorders. It tries to bring the most comprehensive overview of the two majority eating disorders, anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, respectively. Both diseases have a lot in common, but also some of its specifics which are pointed out in the study. The study is conceived to make the reader in the early chapters acquainted with the various eating disorders according to international diagnostic criteria. Then there is a brief history, epidemiology and etiology and pathogenesis of particular disorders. Other chapters are devoted to anorexia and bulimia. They deal with the predisposition to eating disorders and they include psychological and biological factors and also health risks that may occur during prolonged starvation and at compensatory behaviour in bulimic patients. The final chapter briefly describes the different types of treatment that in most cases are based on knowledge of psychology.
Distribution of mitochondrial uncoupling proteins in selected tissues from mice and rat
Alán, Lukáš ; Ježek, Petr (advisor) ; Flachs, Pavel (referee)
Mitochondrial uncoupling proteins (UCPs) belong to the superfamily of mitochondrial anion-carriers. The longest known is UCP1, predominantly expressed in brown adipose tissue, where it takes part in nonshivering thermogenesis. In the late 1990s were discovered other sequence homologs of UCP1 with tissue specific distribution. The Function of these "new" uncoupling proteins is still uncertain. It is assumed that each of the isoforms has a specific function depending on the type of tissue. This thesis showed differences in tissue transcription pattern between rat and mice using RT-PCR absolute quantification. Significant differences in pattern were found in lungs, brain and muscle. In each case UCP expression was higher in mice tissues. Mice lungs express mainly UCP2. The difference in mice brain is caused by ucp4 and ucp5 genes transcription and finally in muscle is highest content of UCP3 mRNA. We investigated whether any of ucp transcript can complement ucp2 transcripton in spleen or lungs of ucp2 -/- mice. We did not find any difference which can explain, that in isolated lung mitochondria of fasted ucp2-/- mice were uncoupled in state 4. In the last project, we found relationship between ucp2 transcription in insulinoma INS-1E cells and oxygen levels of the cultivation atmosphere.
Archive+
Šana, Václav ; Hora, Jan (referee) ; Kristek, Jan (advisor)
The proposal deals with the architecture archive concept on a wider social scale. The goal is to treat the information as a certain relative value, when the individual spaces are conceived with emotional surprise. There is a controlled collision between old and new approaches where attractive spaces serve purely rational mechanical systems. A person going through the archive should perceive emotional experiences and, after leaving the archive, perceive information in a more complex way.
Design of the twin-ball contact simulator
Navrátil, Marek ; Svoboda, Petr (referee) ; Košťál, David (advisor)
The goal of this bachelor thesis is to create design draft of ball-on-ball contact simulator, which would enable further research of starvation phenomenon, more specifically ratio of distribution of lubricating films onto two rolling elements with circular and elliptical geometry of contact.
The Self-imposed Starvation
FICENECOVÁ, Lucie
This bachelor's thesis deals with different approaches to starving diet of women who follow cleansing fasting procedure and women suffering of mental anorexia. The aim of this study is to ascertain the motivation for starving diet, the reactions of other people and the behavioral changes of fasting and starving women. Data for this research were gathered by unstructured interviews. Furthermore, the bachelor's thesis focused on the use of free time both groups of women acquired. In the theoretical part, the bachelor's thesis refers to fasting procedure, its origin and its impact on psyche. It presents the results of the research on the impact of experimental fasting on psyche. The empirical part of this bachelor's thesis was based on qualitative research. Unstructured interviews were conducted with four women following cleansing fasting procedures and three women suffering of mental anorexia. This research responds to issues of motivation for fasting and starving, the reaction of other people and behaving towards other people. It was concluded by this investigation that women who follow cleansing fasting procedure and women suffering of mental anorexia evince some similar signs in their motivation however they differ in many of them. The theme of weight loss appeared in both groups of interviewed women accept one as a motive leading to starving diet. Furthermore the research reveals the urge to inspire other people to follow the starving diet. This fact does not encounter positive acceptance. On the contrary this causes strong negative response to both fasting and starving.
