Do the pupils of lower secondary education as more attractive real mounted zoological specimens or their models?
Moudrý, Jakub ; Mourek, Jan (advisor) ; Janštová, Vanda (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to find out, with the help of a questionnaire survey and a preferential test, the preferences of pupils of lower secondary education for various types of teaching aids in biology. The preferential test was carried out on real zoological preparations (liquid cylinders, eventually embedded in resin) and on corresponding 3D educational models made of plastic or other modeling materials. The research is a follow-up to a diploma thesis examining the same preferences in upper secondary school students (Šibravová, 2016). The main objective is to extend this issue to younger pupils and to compare the results of both age groups. The goal is to find out whether and how the preferences change with the age of pupils and if it is necessary to adjust the choice of teaching aids in accordance to pupils' age. The first pilot research was carried out on one class of a grammar school. Then other classes of lower secondary education in Prague were tested. The total number of respondents was almost 200 pupils. This was followed by statistical processing and data evaluation. The results showed that 3D teaching models are better rated for lower secondary education than the corresponding real zoological preparations. This is the exact opposite to the results of upper secondary school students....
Work with text in Biology Teaching
Rezková, Gréta ; Pavlasová, Lenka (advisor) ; Skýbová, Jana (referee)
This thesis deals with the issue of working with text in biology lessons at primary schools. The aim of this work is to determine the ability of pupils to analyze text materials and to work with them in different ways. In the research part of the thesis were created texts for teaching pupils at the 2nd level of primary school and the following 8 tasks. Tasks were given to pupils (n=75) in grades 6, 7 and 8 at different stages of the lessons. The tasks were subsequently evaluated and the student's ability to solve the problem was assessed on the basis of the results. In six assignments, pupils had a higher success rate then 70%, while only two had less than 45%. Research results have shown that the ability of pupils to understand and work with text is good. It has also been found out which methods are amiss and how to adjust the tasks. Key words Work with text, teaching of biology, didactics of biology, teaching methods
Human Biology Teaching with Use of CLIL in Russian
Mutlová, Tereza ; Pavlasová, Lenka (advisor) ; Skýbová, Jana (referee)
The Diploma thesis deals with the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) educational method integrating the fields of human biology and Russian language. The goal of the thesis is to prepare lectures and study materials, its testing and verifying its efficiency in teaching process on two groups of subjects - two grammar school classes (students at the age of 18-19). The input level of knowledge was tested on both classes through the pretesting. The first group of students was afterwards taught with "soft" CLIL method (the theory explained in native language), the second group with "hard" CLIL. The questionnaire showed neutral attitude of the students towards the CLIL method with rather more positive approach from the females compared to the male students. The posttests followed, showing only a marginal difference between input and output level of knowledge on both groups. KEYWORDS CLIL, Human biology, Teaching of biology, Didactics of Biology
Use of Primate Expositions in Education at Elementary School
Vilímová, Tereza ; Vančata, Václav (advisor) ; Hlaváčová, Lucie (referee)
This thesis proposes a possibility of using the exposition of primates in the Prague zoo during the school excursion for pupils of the 7th or 8th grade of elementary school. The thesis is divided into individual parts that theoretically analyse the importance of excursions for education and subsequently it is practically focused on facilitating the smooth course of the excursion and other activities that precede the excursion or follow it freely. In the thesis there is the general sorting of primates into individual species described in detail and there is provided basic information about primates that are bred in the Prague zoo. Further, possible excursion trail including individual expositions where the particular animals can be seen is described in detail. The main objective was to provide teachers with detailed instructions on how to make the excursion so it is successful. The purpose of the work was also to create materials which help to actively memorize the information provided and to raise children's interest in such an interesting animal species as the primates. With regard to the fact that most primates are currently threatened by extinction in their natural habitat, the theme of the excursion is closely linked to environmental issues and a responsible approach to the use of natural...
Forensic Analysis of Biological Traces and its Use in High-school Education
Hrubá, Barbora ; Ehler, Edvard (advisor) ; Hlaváčová, Lucie (referee)
This master thesis deals with forensic genetics. Primarily is forensic genetics put into the historical context. Then, there is described a biological material and the possibility of detecting biological traces. Further work is focused on the analysis of DNA, while there are elaborated in detail the techniques used as nucleic acid isolation, quantification of DNA, as well as types of polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Also the thesis deals with methods of obtaining DNA profiles - electrophoresis and sequencing and their variants. Finally, the thesis concern the issues of interpretation of forensic genetic data. Forensic biological exercises for high school students are processed in the didactic part. It has been tested in practice in biological seminars at Jiráskovo gymnázium in Náchod. Key words Forensic genetics, biological traces, didactics of biology
Video as a Tool for Increasing Motivation and Developing Student's Skills in Didactics of Biology
Řeháková, Anna ; Pavlasová, Lenka (advisor) ; Skýbová, Jana (referee)
This master's thesis refers to the use of video as a teaching tool in the subject Didactics of Biology. It comprises two parts, one theoretical and another practical. The theoretical part charts the didactical and practical subjects taught at the Faculty of Education, Charles University in Prague, and deals with the use of video for the professional development of teachers. For the practical part, 8 lesson observation videos were recorded and placed on a newly created website (www.didaktikabiologievidea.cz). The observation videos were submitted to an analysis based on the 3A method and were used afterwards during the courses on Didactics of Biology. A questionnaire was carried out among the students of the teaching profession to evaluate the benefits of the videos for them. The questionnaire surveyed the motivation for studying Didactics of Biology, as well as the impact that these observation videos had on the performance of the teaching profession and the improvement of the teaching abilities. All above stated goals were accomplished in this work. Key words: lesson observation videos, didactics of biology, 3A, methodology, teaching profession, motivation, teaching abilities

Teaching Skeletal-Muscular System in High Schools
Kundratová, Miroslava ; Ehler, Edvard (advisor) ; Pavlasová, Lenka (referee)
Teaching skeletal-muscular system in high schools This thesis is devoted to the methods which are applicable to the teaching of biology. The aim of the thesis is to find out which methods are used at two distinctive high schools, compare and contrast them by the use of the students' feedback. It is devoted to the comparison of ŠVP of three subjects and student books that are used there. The practical part is based on the discussion with teachers and questionnaires for students that consequently serve as work sheets. Finally, the thesis compares the attitudes of students and teachers, and way of teaching at grammar school and vocational school.
On the development of latent animal biology knowledge: a comparative study
ŠAFÁŘOVÁ, Lenka
This thesis investigates latent theoretical knowledge and practical skills in zoology in differently aged sets of basic- and grammar school pupils and students of biology- and natural history education at faculty of education. Examination was taken by test complemented by screened set of photographs and pictures of animals, which was submitted to sample of 844 respondents. It was discovered, various year-class of basic- and grammar schools pupils and students of biology- and natural history education keep in only slightly above-average latent theoretical knowledge and skills of basic zoology curriculum. Biology education and naural history education students finishing their curricula prove less then 85 % success of theoretical and practical parts of the test used for investigation. It was discovered, the time period after the zoology curriculum had been taught has different effect to level of latent knowledge of differently aged respondents from different types of schools. Results of investigation found between the years 2006 - 2008 are analyzed, evaluated and compared with results of similar past studies.
