Quarter century of Eugene Rastignac's life: analysis of the development of the character in The Human Comedy

The aim of my thesis is to observe and to analyse one of Balzac's characters who appears mainly in The Human Comedy. Eugene Rastignac's character changes in the course of novels. And the change is caused by his environment and also by the surrounding characters. Concerning the methodological part of my work, I use two Czech theorists who deal with the typology of characters (František Všetička, Bohumil Fořt). I will try to choose relevant fragments of Balzac's novels where I will describe change of the character. At the end I point out the future development of the subject and also the actual usage of Rastignac's fate as a pattern of ambitious young man.

Reflection of Sexuality in Toyen's Work From the Perspective of Art Criticism

Toyen and sexuality is a frequent topic of art history texts written about the artist in the last twenty years. Toyen provoked with her erotic drawings and illustrations, her appearance and mysteriousness shrouded around her. Where did the roots of her desire, depicted in her work, came from? What was the role played by contemporary context? How her contemporaries wrote about sexuality? Were there any interpretations of the artist's work based on the known information about her person or personality? What was the Toyen's position as a woman? The empirical part of my thesis is based on research, where I try to seek for answers to the questions found in the texts published in Czechoslovakia. The research is bounded by years 1922-1947. Years when Toyen entered respectively left the Czech art scene. Her work has therefore been interpreted by persons who lived in the same cultural context, some of them were actually her personal acquaintances. I will also try to answer the question whether the contemporary texts differ from the texts written after 1989, eventually how. Within the examining the reflection of sexuality in the work of Toyen I will also ask myself whether the perspectives of view are different in the eyes of men and women. Instability of Character in Sam Shepard's Work of the 1970s

The purpose of this thesis is to undertake a thorough analysis of Sam Shepard's approach to the character in a selection of his plays from the 1970s. Instead of approaching characters as compact entities with fixed character features the thesis focuses on their instability and changeability and attempts to ascribe characters' transformations to dynamic non-subjective forces and to identify ego-loss as a partially liberating process that nonetheless confronts the characters with the unknown and is accompanied by fear of self-loss. From the theoretical vantage point of the collaborative writings of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, the thesis equates the transformations of Shepard's characters and their inability to locate the "self" with the schizophrenic experience. As a musical genre based on variability, jazz, as well as its inherent form of expression, improvisation, are utilized as points of departure in the analysis of characters' instability in plays Suicide in Bb and Angel City. Furthermore, in Angel City, the phenomenon of film in the USA and the desire for success and fame intensified by it are perceived as instruments of manipulation and illusion, which characters easily succumb to and which severely alter their sense of reality. The concept of evil in Plato's dialogues Protagoras and Gorgias

The goal of this paper is to show what is the nature of ethically wrong action considering two of Plato's dialogues - Protagoras and Gorgias. By examining the possibility of different sorts of motivational forces, we will show that Socrates was well aware of the relevance of emotions and desires in the process of decision making. Still, he maintains the idea of reason and knowledge as the superior motivational force. We will argue that the reason why people make wrong decisions is that they do not have true knowledge of the good, moreover, they are ruled by the power of desires. We will also focus on the detrimental effect on human's soul if he follows the path of wrongdoing. Finally, we will show that Socrates offers a solution to those with miserable souls - dialogue and punishment.

Objective and Subjective Cognition of Beauty in the Writings of St. Thomas Aquinas.

This thesis deals with the objective and subjective cognition of beauty by a scholastic philosopher Thomas Aquinas. The initial chapters provide historical sources and a source of St. Thomas´s beauty, because beauty was not the main topic of theology and philosophy in the Middle Ages. From the definition of beauty, we know that beauty belongs to the cognitive power, thus next chapters present the activity of the senses and reason, by which we recognize beauty. (Pulchrum autem respicit vim cognoscitivam). This cognitive power results in the objective characteristics of beauty, ie.: a) integrity; b) proportion; c) clarity.) The penultimate chapter justifies the importance of knowledge of objective and subjective beauty, from which it follows in us enjoyment (delectatio et amor). If there is a reason to evaluate the knowledge and principles relating to the beauty, there is a necessary overlap present knowledge such as science. The final chapter addresses the interesting question of modern science - aesthetics: "Whether beauty, as written by Thomas Aquinas, is a specific distinct transcendental or only implicit transcendental initiated by the philosophers of the 20th century?" The thesis tries to show the importance of studying medieval philosophy in shaping topics such as beauty and art.

In my thesis the focus is on the attraction with which I work in multiple planes. I focus on the essence of the material and its predictive value. I place emphasis on the significance of the use of specific material and use the category of its surface, superficies, fashion, luxury, kitsch, goodliness, atracction,object and desire. I work with visual, physical and sensual attraction.

Alternative methods of leading childbirth

The topic of my bachelor thesis is "Alternative methods of child delivery". The theoretical part describes the physiological delivery its particular phases and their progression. In addition, I aim to explain what the term alternative birth means, and what it includes. The various alternative positions are described, which can be used to facilitate childbirth, as well as their appropriate use during the particular delivery phases. The theoretical part is concluded by descriptions of pain relief methods, including the description of both pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods. The second part of the thesis is a practical part, summarizes the results of an evaluation research. The aim was to explore the most used alternative methods and to identify the views and experiences of women with alternative methods and aids used during delivery in selected hospitals. Furthermore, the aim was to describe the regions of the Czech Republic in terms of the use of alternative aids and procedures. The hypotheses were formulated based on previous experiences and personal opinions of the author of the thesis. The research sample consisted of women after a spontaneous child delivery in the České Budějovice Hospital and in the Znojmo Hospital. The research was conducted in the form of an anonymous questionnaire survey, using a non-standardized questionnaires. The results of the survey were compiled in tables and the chi-square test was applied as a method for statistical processing and verifying the hypotheses.
