The Alchemy and its Use in Chemistry Teaching
Nývlt, Petr ; Čtrnáctová, Hana (advisor) ; Solárová, Marie (referee) ; Rychtera, Jiří (referee)
The dissertation deals with the usability of alchemy in chemistry education at secondary schools - especially grammar schools. In the research part it monitors the differences in educational outcomes for pupils who performed the same experiment with the alchemical approach and those who did it in the classical manner. The basic objective was to confirm or refute the benefits of a completely different approach to the experiment - an alchemical way. The starting point of the paper is alchemy itself. First, it was necessary to describe it and then find and define what is useful in teaching. I chose its spiritual dimension. This phenomenon is then transformed into the framework of pedagogical-psychological speech in order to set a certain didactic method on that basis that will be accessible to pupils, realizable at schools and efficient. The theoretical part focuses on the definition of alchemy in particular. It is based on the research available in Czech and world literature. It monitors the evolution of alchemy from its ancient beginnings to the 20th century because the development of this doctrine is as important as its foundations themselves for its definition. Given that there is currently no clear view of alchemy in terms of its true objectives, the paper watches both physical and contemplative...

About the Relationship of Humility and Pride
Smetana, Pavel ; Hogenová, Anna (advisor) ; Blažková, Miloslava (referee)
This thesis deals with the research of humility from the view of its elusiveness - it does not define humility and it also does not even try to do so. Conversely, it walks around the phenomenon of humility and points at it in different ways. It uses examples, mostly from works of Comenius, and builds it with parallels from works of Jung, Foucault, Jünger, Drewermann and some other authors. It delimits humility against pride at example of different view of "epoché" in works of Comenius and Descartes; pride is basicly seen where human does not leave any unnaturalness and completely absorbs the world by his own opinion; work also uses Husserl's criticism of Descartes' view of "epoché" and Comenius' criticism of Machiavelli is also mentioned. Thence, the thesis sees the principle of humility in a close relation with the principle of faith or simply with the knowledge of the principle of some higher instance than the human's own sense is. The principle of humility is also nearby to the principle of grace - for this example the thesis researches Simone Weil's concept of "weight and grace"; grace from this point of view is an unpredictable step outside the performance-based part of human life. This thesis deals with mentioned phenomenons at first at the level of the visions of the world, later at the...
Thaddaeus Hagecius ab Hayek and His Contribution to the Renaissance in Bohemia
Karlík, Ondřej ; Veverková, Kamila (advisor) ; Lášek, Jan Blahoslav (referee)
The dissertation begins with an introduction about Renaissance, because Thaddaeus Hagecius lived and worked in this age. Renaissance was both an age of faith in hermetic sciences and an age of important scientific discoveries which fundamentally influenced the transformation of cosmology. My intention is to explain the characteristics of this period in the beginning of the dissertation. The next chapter is mainly focused on Hagecius's biography and an overview of his main writings. At first, I dealt with Hagecius's youth and his studies in Bohemia and foreign countries. Afterwards, I mentioned the areas that Hagecius had developed and the writings that he had published about them. I have more thoroughly expanded Hagecius's activity in medicine and astronomy because they were the main areas of his research. In another part of the chapter, I have outlined the friendship between Hagecius and Brahe. I have closed the chapter with an explanation of Hagecius's reference to alchemy. In the third chapter of my dissertation, I have introduced Hagecius's scientific efforts in four areas. These are as follow-astronomy, medicine, botany and brewing, because Hagecius contributed to these four areas with an interesting manner. These areas also show the huge diversity of Hagecius's interests.
The Death Pit and the Glowing Swamp: A Permeation
Smutný, Jan ; Marek, Petr (referee) ; Cenek, Filip (advisor)
The work is connecting well-known symbols of alchemy and various esoteric traditions and giving them visual and narrative form. There is deconstruction and glorification of this type of philosophy in the same time. The characters of the story are symbolizing the german and slavic archetypes. Their voyage from the pit of death to the glowing swamp and vice versa is representing the ageless story of life and death, creation and destruction, body and soul, light and darkness. All the symbols are used in the ironic and serious way in the same time.
