Determinanty úrovně kojenecké úmrtnosti ve vybraných afrických zemích

The aim of the diploma thesis is to analyse which determinants have an impact on infant mortality in West and East Africa for a year 2012 based on correlation and regression analysis. Representative countries Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal for West Africa and Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda for East Africa, were chosen. From the gained results and information, recommendation for possible better future development of infant mortality is concluded as the outcome of the diploma thesis aim. On base of data analysis, one variable, which influences a development of infant mortality, was not identified, but it can be assumed that a complex of variables affects the infant mortality. In this line with final findings, current strategy of development aid is focused primarily on local activities more than just on financial help.
Analysis of market potential for the luxury industry in the West African countries

For decades, the African continent has been perceived in a negative way and it has not been easy to change this international perception of the continent. During the past few years a deep change has taken place in the continent and in the eyes of the world. Africa is now open for business and Africa is also able to compete effectively in the international luxury market. The luxury market is constantly rising but it is not fully present on the African continent yet. The objective of this thesis is to decide whether or not luxury companies should tap into that new market with a widespread penetration. Therefore, a market entry strategy, followed by a market research was conducted throughout the thesis. The luxury companies' international motives were analyzed. Then their current situation analysis led to the analysis of the geographic zone, Africa. It is about finding if the African market offer favorable conditions to luxury companies by examining the external environment and also the internal environment by analyzing the current luxury industry situation in Africa in order to confirm the market attractiveness of this area. The study was delimited to the West African Region, region that reseals a great market potential and a broad emergence of the middle class in perpetual search for self-esteem, given by luxury goods. African consumers' behaviors were also revealed and analyzed in this study. Thus, recommendations were elaborated in order to give some guidelines to the luxury firms if they decide to enter within the West African market.
World Cocoa Market and Global Production of Cocoa

This bachelor thesis deals with the world market of cocoa beans. It aims to describe the global cocoa production and the most important producing countries as well as analyze collected data of trade flows with this commodity. The work is divided into three interrelated parts. The first chapter is dedicated to the general characteristic of the cocoa tree and the history of its growing. The second chapter presents the quantity of the production in particular areas of harvesting during the second half of the twentieth century and at the same time it mentions business relations between producers and consumers. The last chapter raises the issue of Fair Trade on the example of cocoa.
The Influence of Chinese Investments on Relations between ECOWAS and EU

This thesis is devoted to analyzing the impact of Chinese investments in the region of West Africa on relations between ECOWAS and European Union. The first chapter characterizes Community of West African States - geographically, demographically and especially in the area of macroeconomics. Following chapter focuses itself on relations of PRC and ECOWAS. Particular attention is paid to foreign direct investments, which is China realizing in the area. ECOWAS relations with the European Union and the changes that have occurred in recent years are described in the third chapter of the thesis. A separate section describes the Economic Partnership Agreements. The conclusion represents the analysis of changes in trade relations between ECOWAS and the EU.
Remittances and their comparison with ODA in selected countries of West Africa

This bachelor thesis compares remittances and official development assistance in Ghana and Nigeria. The thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part the reader is familiar with the theoretical definition of remittances and ODA. The second part describes the situation in the area of remittances in Ghana and Nigeria - including the quantification of the flows of remittances. This section also describes the use and transfer of remittances in the region. The last part compares ODA and remittances in Ghana and Nigeria. The comparison is done primarily by quantification of both flows and their impact on the population and economy of the country. The aim of this thesis is to provide the reader some useful information about remittances and ODA in Ghana and Nigeria.
Forest eternal? Endemic butterflies of the Bamenda Highlands, Cameroon, avoid close-canopy forest

I studied habitat preferences of three common endemic butterflies in the Bamenda Highlands, Cameroon. Assuming that the life history traits of taxa with limited geographic distribution reflect past habitat conditions within their ranges, the history and conservation of West African mountain landscape is discussed.
The economic cooperation between the EU and the countries of West Africa

This bachelor thesis deals with trade relations between the EU and the countries of West Africa. The first part focuses on the characteristics of the West African region. The next section deals with the preferential trade arrangements of the EU, applied to countries of West Africa. Emphasis is put on the development of mutual relations of the European Union and West Africa, as part of the African, Caribbean and Pacific, to the present, influenced by the conclusion of economic partnership agreements. The work defines the benefits and risks arising from the accession to such agreements.
The Position of the grouping ECOWAS in International Trade

ECOWAS is the integration grouping of 15 West African countries. The first chapter deals with the history, geography, demography and economic situation of the grouping. The main objective of this bachelor thesis was to analyze position of West Africa in international trade and identify the expected development in the future. Last chapter is devoted to 4 representative Member States of ECOWAS - Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Liberia.
