Vietnamese children at Czech schools

The bachelor work is focused on the topic of Vietnam children at the Czech education system. The first part of this work tries to mention cultural-historical background of the Vietnamese coming to the Czech Republic. It is concerning on the differences of the interethnical communication too. Second part of the work deals with the most important problems associated with the education of the Vietnam pupils and students and possibilities of their solution. This part also shows positives of the school as a factor of integration.
The integration of 2nd generation Vietnamese children in the Czech society

This thesis focuses on the issue of integration of the second generation of Vietnamese children in Czech society, particularly in primary education. In order to understand the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic it is necessary to become acquainted with the country of origin in the first place. In the theoretical part, the fundamental theoretical concepts related to the topic of Vietnamese history, culture and education are presented. The thesis outlines the differences between the Czech society and the Vietnamese language, traditions and holidays. Furthermore, the history of Czech- Vietnamese relations and knowledge of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic are mentioned. The main part of the thesis is devoted to education and it also includes the model of education in Vietnam, attitudes towards education in both countries and the typical problems of the integration of Vietnamese children in Czech primary schools. These common problems often stem from a variety of situations which could render the Vietnamese integration into the Czech society difficult. Holidays and traditions in the process of integration of the Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic - case study Vyšší Brod

This thesis will research, as its main theme, the integration of the Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic. The author will use Migrant Policy Integration Index (MIPEX) and briefly describe the tools and intentions of the integration policy of the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic. The work will focus on the role of holidays and traditions in maintaining an awareness of the cultural identity of the Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic. The author will analyze relevant scientific literature on this topic, and then try to confront this situation by interviewing Vietnamese in Vyšší Brod in South Bohemia. The author will also try to determine how these Vietnamese families approach holidays and traditions common in the Czech Republic.
Vietnamese integration in the South Bohemian region-case study of České Budějovice

At the beggining the thesis will shortly describe the migration process from Vietnam to the South Bohemian region. Furthermore, it will characterize migration stages of Vietnamese people to the Czech republic and indicate their raising and decreasing amount in the South Bohemian region. The thesis is focused on their economical activities and social status. It will outline the current situation Vietnamese society in the South Bohemian as well. Moreover, the thesis will analyze social work of the centres that help to improve integration process of the Vietnamese people in the South Bohemian region. It will depict the civil and political participation towards the Vietnamese society to the Czech society in the South Bohemian region. It will clarify how many organizations and guilds was founded towards Vietnamese people in the South Bohemian region.

The aim of this work is to review the literature focused on Czech as a foreign language and the teaching of Czech as a foreign language for native Vietnamese speakers. Furthermore, it will deal with the sociolinguistic analysis of the language situation of the Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic, with regard to the language conditions in the granting of permanent residence on the territory of the Czech Republic.
Is Pavel Novak More Employable than Hoang Nguyen?

This bachelor thesis studies ethnic discrimination in Czech Republics labour market with a correspondence test. To each of 395 job openings two simmilar résumé of fictional applicants were sent. The correspondence testing method reveals discriminatory practices at the initial stage of recruitment process. The probability for Vietnamese people to receive interview is lower than for Czechs by 12 percentage points. This finding is interpreted as an evidence for statistical disrcrimination. Questionnaire survey was conducted with 55 hiring decision-makers for the purpose of explanation employers motives to discriminate. Low Czech language proficiency of Vietnamese people was expected by employers, leading to statistical discrimination.
Vietnamese cultural standards and their impact on the life of Vietnamese in the Czech Republic

The dissertation focuses on Vietnamese culture from the perspective of the Hofstede´s model of cultural dimensions and also describes its development and the factors that shaped it. Emphasis is laid on Vietnamese business etiquette, which includes previously discovered evidence of a Vietnamese way of thinking and acting. Attention is also paid to the characteristics of the Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic, the static data related to this minority and evaluation of its integration. The goal of the research is to reveal the cultural differences between Vietnamese and Czech society and describe the influence of the Czech environment on original cultural values and habits of members of the Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic.
Foreigners' children's perception staying in the Czech Republic - aimed towards the Vietnamese community

The issue of foreigners' children's perception staying in the Czech Republic for the long term is the theme of this thesis. It deals with the influence of different origins to an individual's identity and also what kind of role plays the individual's personality and his history of his family. The aim of the thesis is to describe the whole process of adapting and incorporating into the cultural and social environment of the Czech Republic. The thesis focuses on the differences in family customs, lifestyle changes and the change of children's identity versus their parents and grandparents. The basic concepts and their reciprocal relationships are explained in the theoretical section. The practical section is aimed towards qualitative research, using methods of questioning and interview techniques with the examined persons on this topic.
View of the Vietnamese pupils from the perspective of teachers and classmates (with a view of the age of pupils and location of school)

The goal of my diploma thesis is to find out, what kind of relations exists between minority and majority at Czech primary schools. Vietnamese minority was chosen for this thesis. We research differences in perception between girls and boys and between older and younger pupils. We also research differences between formal and informal situations. Another goal is to find out if pupils have some basic knowledge about native land of this minority. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part includes the explanation of basic terms about minorities at all, historical and cultural information about Vietnam, information about life and distribution of Vietnamese in the Czech Republic and also information about Vietnamese pupils in Czech schools. In the practical part the questionnaire method is used for pupils and the interview is used for teachers. Results of these research studies are processed into graphs and tables, which are supplemented by relevant comments.
The image of ethnic and national minorities in Czech mass media

The work deals with an image of ethnic and national minorities in Czech mass media. The theoretical part defines the basic theoretical terms and briefly characterizes selected minorities in our country. It also attends to the issues of coexistence, problems of stereotypes, attitudes and prejudices. The end of this part is addressing the issues of media, media product and medial representation of minorities in the selected theme context. The practical part is based on the assumption of current media presenting the minorities mostly in a connection with negative content, for example criminality, unemployment etc. The research part is aimed at the content analysis of daily newspaper articles, that relate to chosen minorities.
