Communication Problems of Deaf People in the field of Health Care

This bachelor's thesis deals with the communication problems of deaf people in health care institutions. The aim is to map the most common problems the deaf have when communicating with personnel in health care institutions in this area. The theoretical part of the bachelor's thesis deals with the classification of hearing impairments, communication methods of the deaf, the role of sign language interpreters, as well as patient's rights. The practical part is based on a questionnaire survey of deaf people and analyses the most common problems of the deaf in health care institutions
Identification of emotional expression with a focus on the comparison of deaf, hearing and hearing-impaired

This thesis is focused on the identification of emotional expressions in the human face. The theoretical part includes an introduction to the issue of emotions, the history research on the identification of emotional expressions, the description of the various expressions of basic emotions and their recognition followed with the characteristics of the group of hearing-impaired. In the empirical part the research on the recognition identification of emotions in the face from the portraits is described. The aim of this thesis is to compare the accuracy of identification of emotional expressions among the groups of hearing, deaf and hard of hearing, and their development across all age categories. In my research I focus on the seven basic emotions (fear, anger, sadness, surprise, hapiness, disgust and contempt) and one social emotions (shame). The research did not confirm my assumptions. No statistically significant difference among the three groups in the overall identification of emotional expression was proved. The only difference was in the recognition of disgust which resulted in favor of the hearing. Communication problems of the majority society with a group of deaf

The topic of the thesis is communication problems of the majority of society and groups of deaf people. Deaf people also live in the majority of hearing society. These people meet each other and they can communicate with each other. This communication is problematic, however, because in the communication of deaf and hearing there are communication barriers. In this thesis, we used a quantitative method of the surveyed hearing respondents. We researched what communication problems exist in the communication of the majority society and a group of deaf people. Based on the methods used, we found that communication problems are mainly caused by a lack of awareness of the major societies of the group of deaf people. Social and collective identity of the Deaf community/ies in Prague

This work deals with the collective and social identity of the Prague deaf. It is based on the presumption that the deaf can be regarded as a social group with specific characteristics which are interesting from a sociological perspective. The aim of this work is a description and understanding of the mode the deaf relate to each other and the way the social mechanisms are used for this purpose. The crucial chapter deals with the social categorization as a key mechanism for building and maintaining the social identity of the deaf. The following part is devoted to the collective identity, where two ideal types of the deaf collective identity are presented. The work is based on the qualitative research, which was conducted through semi-structured interviews with the deaf, simultaneously translated into Czech. Miroslava Kotvová ABSTRACT: Bachelor thesis with the title the Development of the language skills of CODA is focused on the description of the development and acquisition of language hearing children of deaf parents, both spoken language and sign. The aim is to describe the development of language competence CODA studied to the basis of the available literature and interviews with CODA individuals. The theoretical part presents the field of the education of the deaf, culture and the Deaf community, sign language, but also a description of the acquisition of sign and spoken language. The practical part consists of the case studies of CODA which were based on the interviews with the individuals or even with them and their parents. The work highlights the problem of bilingual individuals growing up in a home environment with the sign language with the influence of the spoken language of the major society, but also the difficulty and importance of the election code of communication for deaf parents. Hearing dogs - Assistive devices for the Deaf?

This bachelor thesis deals with dogs employed in the socio-medical field, especially with assistance and hearing dogs. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part the reader is introduced to the categories of dogs employed in this field, their special training (including interested organizations) is described and last but not least appropriate legislative measures are described. Attention is also paid to the situation abroad (in the USA, Great Britain and Slovakia). Information in the theoretical part served as resource for the practical part, which is divided into two units: passportization of dogs which are employed in the socio-medical field in Czech Republic; questionnaire survey among people with hearing loss, who are owners of dogs without special assistance/hearing training. In the conclusion the author uses the previously collected data to search for an answer to a question, whether a dog (even without a special training) can be an assistive device for people with hearing loss. Teaching English to Deaf Students

This bachelor thesis focuses on the process of teaching the English language to students who are deaf. The objective of the theoretical part is to present possible differences in the process of teaching a foreign language that result from the different identity of deaf students and to illustrate the situation of teaching a foreign language to deaf students. The practical part aims to present various methods that may assist during the process of teaching. It also describes the observed lessons of English at schools for the hearing impaired.
A Contrastive Approach in Teaching Czech Language to Czech Deaf

This work deals with the use of contrastive approach in teaching Czech language to Czech deaf, with positives and negatives of this approach and with its conditions of the use. The introduction described a process of language acquisition for hearing and deaf children and there is also described the difference between acquiring the first language and learning a second / foreign language. The work also denotes the causes of low literacy of Czech deaf and the possibility of solving this problem. The inclusion of contrastive approach to teaching could be the solution. Factors influencing interpreter's performance in educational facility

The thesis deals mainly with all the aspects having an impact on the interpreter's setting at primary and secondary schools and colleges. Whether special schools or mainstream schools with deaf students integrated. In the theoretical part, we can learn about characteristics of educational interpreting, development of this type of interpreting in the Czech Republic and the situation in interpreting in 1991 and since that year until now. Most of the work deals with the individual factors that influence the quality of simultaneous interpretation in general way. From these factors, I chose those that were specific to sign language interpreting in the area of education. To have an idea of what the current situation in the education of interpreters is, I interviewed 5 interpreters - one of each secondary school or college. In the practical part we will find a questionnaire survey of 19 Czech sign language interpreters working in the field of education. This survey aims to determine whether the factors have anticipated impact on interpreters in education during the interpretation process, and if so, to what extent.
