Alzheimer's dementia in the family - use of services of a day care and a week care centre
KOVAŘÍKOVÁ, Jaroslava
The thesis focuses on care of clients with Alzheimer's, including the burden of family members and possible options of using services of a day care and a week care centre. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with Alzheimer's disease together with nursing care, health care system in the Czech Republic and possibility to use services of day care and week care centres. In the empirical part of the thesis the method of qualitative research was used. A non standardized interview was applied as a method of questioning. The results of the qualitative research clearly show that the care for clients with Alzheimer's dementia represents a major burden for family members who care for the ill and in connection with the care provided they have to tackle following problems. They have to cope with the gradual deterioration of memory of the ill, which is associated with occasional forgetfulness, disorientation, wandering around. Another problem is to handle in an acceptable way the change of behaviour of their loved ones who often attack them both verbally and physically. Family members help patients with feeding, emptying, hygiene and grooming. They must solve the difficulties with activation of patients including memory exercises, they watch whether the patients swallow the medication. The conclusions of the thesis show that family members have to deal with many above mentioned problems when providing care for their loved ones. They themselves are tired and exhausted due to the care they provide, which is related to the incidents of their own health problems. They neglect themselves and their families, it is difficult for them to coordinate the care with their job and often come to work sleepy. For these reasons they would like to use services of day care and week care centres. It eases them of the burden of care, which they see as a benefit. The research revealed the expected services of the day care centre including expected nursing care. The research results were presented to the management of the Aftercare Hospital in Humpolec as it had planned to open a day care centre for patients with Alzheimer's dementia. Furthermore, the results served as a basis for the seminar for potential applicants, who would like to work in the centre. Based on information obtained in the course of writing of the thesis, a draft of the brochure was created which would serve as information material for family members of clients with Alzheimer's including the patients themselves.
The significance of self-helping groups in caregiving for clients with the Alzheimer's disease
KOUŘILOVÁ, Milena
Alzheimer´s dementia is a neurodegenerative disease which leads to a decline of some populations of neurons and as a result of this to brain atrophy. This results in the formation of dementia syndrome. With respect to the aging population, the issue of neurodegenerative diseases is also more and more important. The objective of the thesis was to monitor if carers for the person with Alzheimer´s dementia have information about the self-help group and to monitor the need of carers for the establishment of a self-help group in South Bohemia region. A qualitative method of research was used. The data was gained by a method of semi-standardized interview. From the research is clear that only two carers out of six have certain information about a self-help group.Another part of the research was to monitor the need of carers for people with Alzheimer´s disease for establishing a self-help group in the South-Bohemian region. The gained results inform about the fact that the information of carers about the self-help groups is very low and they would welcome the establishment of a self-help group in South-Bohemian region. The results of this thesis can be used as the information source for the Czech Alzheimer Society and can be a stimulus for opening a self-help group in the South-Bohemian region.

Nursing documentation is becoming an important part of the medical documentation and it is an integral part of the nursing process in the homes for seniors too. The theoretical part of the Bachelor thesis ``Formation of Nursing Documentation and its Usage in the Home for Seniors Chýnov{\crqq} contains chapters concerning the nursing process and nursing documentation. Further this part deals with the characteristics of the Home for Seniors Chýnov and with the specific problems and needs of geriatric clients in particular the clients suffering from Alzheimer dementia. The first stage of the research part involved formation of the new documentation and its application in the Home for Seniors. The respondents had an opportunity to work with the documentation in the months of January and February 2010. In the second part we tried to survey opinions of the respondents of the made documentation. Four research questions were preceding the research. Research question number 1: Shall the nurses working in the Home for Seniors Chýnov accept the newly made documentation as a part of the medical documentation? Research question number 2: Shall the nurses working in the Home for Seniors Chýnov refer to time consuming work with the documentation? Research question number 3: Has the new documentation influenced communication among the members of the nursing staff? Research question number 4: Shall the newly made documentation contribute to the change of the nurses´ opinion of the patients from the holistic philosophy point of view? To fulfil the set aims there was carried out the qualitative research using the method of questioning and semi-standardized interview. The research set consisted of 7 respondents (general nurses) working in this establishment. Considering the research results we suppose that the work target has been fulfilled. The research has proved that the newly made documentation has improved communication among the members of the nursing team and the nurses have accepted it as a part of the medical documentation. The aim of the work was making a quality nursing documentation which should be simple, not time consuming and which should be focused on specific needs of the clients of the Home for Seniors Chýnov.
