Valency of French adverbs
Holubová, Barbora ; Duběda, Tomáš (advisor) ; Nádvorníková, Olga (referee)
(in English): French grammars define the word class adverbs as a very heterogeneous set distinguished particularly by its invariability and intransitivity. The aim of this thesis is to study the valency structure of certain French adverbs forming such a subset which to certain extent denies aforesaid definition. Therefore, the definition of adverbial valency and the characteristic of "inheritance" and "fading" of adverbial valency potential after a transformation from verbs and adjectives will be given. The outcomes of the theoretical part will then be verified by analysing the data presented in the electronic dictionary le Petit Robert completed by qualitative and quantitative analyses based on two written French corpuses: Frantext and L'Est Républicain. To describe the "inheritance" and "fading" of valency potential, the same method will be used to depict the set of the adverbs derived from the adjectives, which take prepositional phrases headed by the preposition de as their complement. This work will be based not only on the theory of general linguistics and grammar, but also on the knowledge of mathematical and corpus linguistics. Klíčová slova (anglicky): valence, adverbs, French, corpus linguistics.
English counterparts of Czech adverbs (expressing respect and measure)
Tomašovičová, Katarína ; Šaldová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Popelíková, Jiřina (referee)
The objective of the present thesis is to analyse divergent translation counterparts of Czech adverbs; i.e. those cases, where Czech adverbs are realised in English by other means than the corresponding word class of adverbs. The thesis focuses on the divergent counterparts of the Czech adverbs expressing respect and measure. The Theoretical part of this study presents an overview of morphology, syntax, and semantics of adverbs in both languages. The analysis of two hundred and eleven examples obtained from the Czech-English parallel corpus Intercorp is carried out in the empirical part. The divergent counterparts of six adverbs of respect and five adverbs of measure will be classified and analysed with regard to their word class, frequency, and semantics.
Typology of Italian adjectives functioning as adverbs
KMEŤOVÁ, Kamila
The main theme of this bachelor's thesis is the typology of Italian adjectives working as adverbs. This work is divided into two parts: theoretical and analytical. The theoretical part deals with the basic characteristic of adjectives, adverbs and adjectives, which work as adverbs. The second chapter of this part is devoted to the structuring of these two word classes according to particular characteristics. The analytical part is based on a drawn up list of adjectives working as adverbs. With the assistance of Italian corpuses there are made samples of given verbs, which are together with the converted adverbs used for creating those constructions. Afterwards the adjectives are sorted out depending on the possibility of deriving the appropriate adverb. For adjectives handling this ability are both permissible constructions analyzed through semantic site. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to compose as extensive list of these adjectives as possible and examine them deeply.
