Therapeutic game implementation with use of EMG signal

This bachelor thesis describes electromyography which we can use for biofeedback. At first, it describes electromyography and methods of measuring. Then biofeedback is described and its usage for therapeutic purposes or therapeutic games. Also it introduces BITalino device which represents low-cost solution for biofeedback. For practical uses there is provided a program written in C++ which includes Super Mario World. Appliation also draws measuered signal and parameteres calcuted from it.
Effect of kinesiotaping on shoulder girdle muscle activity

Kinesiotaping is a new method used for an extremely wide range of clinical conditions. Kinesiotaping is established in sport for treatment and prevention of injury and offers therapists a new treatment possibility of muskuloskeletal injuries and disorders. There are used elastic permeable and water-resistant adhesive tapes of different colours. Elasticity of the tape maintains the patient's full mobility. This is the decisive advantage compared with the previous treatment taping methods. The mechanism of kinesiotaping is based on two main effects. The kinesiotape stimulate the skin receptors and increase interstitial space between the skin and the underlying connective tissues. Therefore it improves the circulation of both venous and lymphatic fluid and decrease pressure on mechanical nociceptors. It is surprising that even though the kinesiotaping is being very often used, there is lack of evidence demonstrating its effectiveness. The aim of the thesis is therefore to summarize all general information about the kinesiotaping and compare them with published results. The special chapter is devoted to the kinesiotaping of the shoulder girdle, which is supplemented by a practical section about the muscle activity effect of the kinesiotaping of the shoulder girdle measured by surface electromyography.

Title: The comparative analysis of forward stroke on the slalom kayak, wildwater kayak and speed kayak The Aim: Aim of this work is the comparative analysis of forward stroke on the kayak to slalom kayak, wildwater kayak and speed kayak. Methods: For comparison, we used electromyography measurements, we have synchronized with video. Results: The results of this work we show that most differences in the forward stroke, according to timing of entries we selected muscle activation between the speed and slalom kayak. Effect of surface electrode type on quality of decopmposition of surface EMG signal

Title: Effect of surface electrode type on quality of decomposition of surface EMG signal Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the effect of surface electrode type, which was used for EMG record, on the quality of decomposition of surface EMG signal using decomposition software EMGlab. Methods: The form of the thesis is an experimental essay. It was detected an EMG signal from one healthy volunteer during mild cyclic contraction. It was used three different types of electrodes (standard surface electrode, tetrode, tetrode with saw-off spikes) for EMG signal detection. These signals were decomposed in program EMGlab. The results were processed in program MS Excel, compared with each other and graphically displayed. Results: The measurement verified a hypothesis which claimed that the used type of electrode affects the quality of automatic decomposition. The best results of automatic decomposition provide the signal gained from the standard surface electrode. Kinesiological Analysis of the Rowing Stroke

Title: Kinesiological Analysis of the Rowing Stroke. Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to obtain, to analyse and process the data on the activity and involvement of selected measured muscles, working during one rowing stroke - in the drive part and in the recovery part. Methods: The work is processed by a kinesiological analysis of selected movement of the rowing stroke, based on the determination of muscle activation. Electromyography method was synchronized with the video recording. Results: Based on the sequences of the muscle activation was described their order and sequence in the actual shot of the rowing stroke (drive phase and recovery). We have proved that in the rigorous technical performance are always activated the same muscles in the exactly same order. Individual deviations from the correct technique in measuring appeared and thus enable their correction. Keywords: Electromyography, stroke, rowing, muscles.
Swimming technique of physicaly disabled swimmers with unilateral above-knee amputation

Headline: Swimming technique of physically disabled swimmers with unilateral above-knee amputation Aim of the Thesis: The aim of this thesis is to describe the intra-individual differences in the swimming technique of unilateral above-knee amputees by measuring the EMG of selected muscle groups. Methods: Surface EMG measurement in combination with using synchronized video recordings. Results: Research of the observed swimmers with unilateral above-knee amputation showed that: when swimming the front crawl, the swimmers unequally balance the intense kick of right and left leg mainly using the abdominal muscles and subsequently also in the electric potential of different sizes in other observed muscles; when swimming the backstroke, the upper body muscles on the side of amputated limb do not show any different activity than the muscles of the opposite side; when swimming the breaststroke, the main propulsion muscle for locomotion through the shoulder girdle - m. latissimus dorsi is activated for a longer period of time on the side of amputated limb; thereby, electrical activity of the selected muscles is not symmetrical in the timeline. PNF technique after arthroscopic stabilization of the shoulder

Title: PNF technique after arthroscopic stabilization of the shoulder joint Objectives: The objective of this work is to consider the possibility of use of the proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation technique (PNF) in early stages of rehabilitation after arthroscopic stabilization of the shoulder joint. The idea is to use the phenomen of irradiation with which this concept works. Methods: The pilot experimental group consisted of 7 healthy participants with simulated arthroscopic stabilization of the left shoulder joint. The electromyography was used to record the electric activity of musculus trapezius pars descendens, pars transversa et pars ascendens, musculus deltoideus pars acromialis, musculus infraspinatus and musculus pectoralis major pars sternocostalis on the immobilized left arm; while using the PNF technique on the peripheral parts of the immobilised arm; and on the contra lateral arm. A 5s sequence of stabilised isometric contraction was analysed and all data further normalised to Maximal Voluntary Contraction (MVC). Considering the literature the 20% increase above the MVC was defined as substantial to assure sufficient functional capacity of the muscle fibres and therefore sufficient to stop muscle atrophy during immobilisation of the arm. The effect of incentive spirometry and postural loading on activity ofvrespiratory muscles

Master thesis "The effect of incentive spirometry and postural lability on activity of respiratory muscles" deals mainly with electromyographic activity of respiratory muscles while using incentive spirometry. In the first part the following aspects of breathing are covered: kinesiology, pattern, work, and the respiratory and postural function of respiratory muscles. The next section describes the main types of incentive spirometers and indications and contraindications of their usage. Furthermore, the thesis defines neurophysiological basics needed for electromyographic usage and the influence on its signal quality. The main part of the thesis deals with the issues of incentive spirometer usage and postural lability and the effects on activity of the respiratory muscles. Correlations between clinical and electromyographic findings in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome depending on rehabilitation therapy

The aim of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic effect of rehabilitation in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. The study focused on a comparison between electromyographic findings, the findings of physioterapist-led clinical examinations and the patient's subjective feelings, illustrated by a visual analogue scale of pain intensity. These three types of examinations were carried out prior to the commencement of rehabilitation and following 8 rehabilitation sessions (within a period of 2 months) in a cohort of 15 patients, and correlations between them were described. The variability of the distribution of pressure forces on the foot with coupling EMG

The bachelor work is focused on the distribution of pressure forces in the area of the foot with support from electromyography. Part of the work deals with the physiology of leg muscles and where the groups of muscles responsible for standing are defined. After that the thesis focuses on postural stability, the foot vault and biomechanical parameters. Additionally, there's the defining of the principles of electromyography and dynamic pavement. Furthermore, the thesis focused on describing how the data is processed, first from elektromyograph and then from dynamic pavement. Finally, there are outcomes from these devices, which are compared and evaluated,there are also partial parameters for electromyography and for the dynamic pavement.
