The Grammar School in Rumburg and its historical development 1906-1989
Šmahelová, Ywette ; Váňová, Růžena (advisor) ; Kasper, Tomáš (referee)
The bachelor thesis is focused on the Grammar School in Rumburk, its history and education provided there. The town of Rumburk is located in north Bohemia on the border with Saxony. Until 1945 with the population of about 10.000 Rumburk was predominantly a German town. After the end of World War II. majority of German residents were expelled and the town was settled by Czechs from inland. Within few years the town reached the same population as before. The grammar school founded there in 1906 shared the turbulent events with its town including two occupations by foreign armies. During 100 years existence the grammar school has changed its official name fifteen times. With every change of its name came institutional reforms and changes of syllabi as well. And since the Grammar School in Rumburk had to respect regulations of five state departments, the main part of the thesis is preceded by a chapter on grammar schools in Bohemia from their beginnings until 1918.
Teaching of parasitism in elementary and secondary schools
Čiháková, Kateřina ; Mourek, Jan (advisor) ; Ehler, Edvard (referee)
Main aim of this master thesis is to map the situation of parasitism teaching in elementary and grammar schools. Thats why it contains analysis of reachable elementary and grammar school textbooks - it informs about various kinds of rating the textbooks, which can help both - current and future teachers of biology - to better know and identify reachable textbooks and choose the right ones for the parasitism teaching. It also contains test results of students parasitism knowledge, which are generally very good. Anyway they should learn much more about parazite's manipulation of their host behavior. Other part of my master thesis shows the results of grammar school teachers-filled questionnaires. All questionnaire results (teachers' and students') show that there can be an improvement in parasitism teaching. In next section you can find the Framework Education Programme analysis, own educational programme draft - workbooks, didactic games and powerpoint presentations. Thanks to the realization of teaching the parazites manipulation of their host behavior I found out that students' interest in the topic is quite big so it would be a shame not to share this newly explored area of parasitism with them. Key words: parasite, host, manipulation hypothesis, questionnaires, parasitism teaching
Inquiry-based science education - practical application and implementation in school practice.
BENDOVÁ, Ivana
This bachelor thesis deals with the review on the subject of implementation of Inquiry Based Education (IBE) at primary and secondary schools in the Czech Republic and in other countries. IBE is introduced as a direction that might solve the crisis of science education and alleviate the decline in interest in technical and natural science disciplines. The main goal of the thesis is to gather the greatest possible deal of information about the topic of IBE. It is also aimed to summarize knowledge about implementation of IBE at Czech schools, especially teachers´ experience. Another aim is to create a sample task of IBSE on the voluntary subject of either natural science or biology that may be used for teaching. Another integral part of the thesis is the chapter on the pilot project called IBSE School that took place in the Faculty of Education of the University of South Bohemia. In this project, teachers were informed about IBSE. In this part, the results of implementing of IBSE at schools are summarized and they are compared to the previous results.
Comparison of the effectiveness of selected teaching methods in geology at the primary schools
MACHNÍKOVÁ, Petra
The presented master thesis compares the effectiveness of geology teaching at primary school using a frontal and "alternative" teaching methods. For the research pupils were firstly tested in the form a didactic pre-test, which was focused on the basic knowledge of geology. Then two geological topics were selected and worked out following a frontal and interactive teaching methods (i.e., using Inquiry Based Science Education and multimedia). The topics were alternately taught in two groups (classes) of respondents at the primary schools. The difference in the effectiveness of the selected teaching methods was evaluated on the basis of the results of the post-test. According to the obtained results the teaching of geology at the primary school is definitely more efficient using "alternative" teaching methods in the comparison with frontal methods of teaching.
Efficiency of inquiry based teaching methods in elementary schools
PEŠKOVÁ, Šárka
The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to find out the efficiency of research-based teaching in biology lessons at upper primary school. The next partial aim is the comparison of students' effectiveness during lessons with elements of exploration-based teaching (a.k.a. experimental group) and comparison of students during frontal teaching (a.k.a. inspecting group). The bachelor thesis deals with teaching methods which can be used during students' lessons at upper primary schools and concentrates on possibilities of research-based teaching. Three research-based tasks which focus on plants and their parts (root, stalk, leaf) are suggested in the thesis. The use of these suggested tasks was verified in author's own practical training in seventh grade at one of the primary schools. Individual tasks are formed and prepared in order to develop creativity, independence, sense of co-operating and exploring stated topics with others. These suggested themes can be used during biology lessons at upper primary schools. The results of efficiency of suggested research-based tasks are presented in the bachelor thesis.
Application and effectiveness of project teaching in the natural sciences
VIKA, Radoslav
The Bachelor´s thesis contains the explanation of the short-term project comparing the front teaching with the project teaching method applied during one school year 2012/2013 in the seventh-year-classes.
The possibilities of the Inquiry-based education in the Vertebrate Biology
JIRÁČKOVÁ, Bára
"The possibilities of the Inquiry-based education (IBE) in the Vertebrate Biology" is the Thesis, whose aim is to chart the possibilities of the teacher in the use of vertebrates in the common lesson. In view of the Laws No.246/1992Coll. and No.114/1992Coll. the possibilities how to use the vertebrates are very restricted. Even a common vertebrate-breeding in a class room is entirely excluded. The method of observation seems to be the most suitable one. The whole theoretical part of the Thesis deals with this method as well as the other methods and already existing tasks of IBE dealing with the vertebrates. There are three new complex tasks in the practical part of the Thesis: "Snapshot Serengeti get to know the fauna of the National Serengeti Park", "Birds in the Winter"and "Birds in the Winter - Excursion to zoo".
Semiaquatic bugs as predators and prey and their use in natural history teaching
JANDA, Václav
The aim of this thesis is to create an overview of scientific findings about the prey and the predators of the representatives of infraorder Gerromorpha, their feeding habits and defence strategies against predators. Gerromorphans are adapted for life on the surface of various water bodies ranging from puddles to open ocean. Majority of water striders feed on insect fallen upon water surface, hatching larvae of aquatic insect or micro-crustacean. Gerromorphans locate their prey by sight and by sensory detection of ripples at water surface caused by prey. Gathering in schools turned out to be an efficient defence strategy against predators. Some species have compound eyes with specialized ommatidia which enable them to see prey on the surface as well as predator under surface. A proposal of the use of Gerromorpha in natural history teaching is part of this thesis. Gerromorphans are convenient for teaching of natural history thanks to the possibility of observation of piercing and sucking mouthparts and various food relations such as predation, cannibalism or kleptobiotic relation. Undemanding rearing of gerromorphans enables easy realization of experiments and observations under school conditions.
Repertoire of demonstrations, experiments and practices focused on biology of water invertebrates in the work of a primary- and grammar school teacher
MATOUŠKOVÁ, Jitka
The thesis analyses how often the teachers in primary schools and in lower classes of multi-year grammar schools integrate practical exercises and experiments into the biology lessons in the issue of water invertebrates. A proposal of laboratory and field practices has also been created and carried out in the school practice in pursuance of water invertebrates with the use of stimulating educational methods, so called Inquiry-based science education.
Practical Cognition of Nature in Teaching in primary school
TVAROHOVÁ, Eliška
The Bachelor thesis reveals the extent of practical learning about nature in the teaching of biology in primary schools and the first stage of secondary schools. Depending on the individuality of each school can be concluded that the practical activities taking place at all schools but in different degrees of the scale and frequency. It was also found the variability in student?s interests in certain topics in biology and interest in developing their own skills in relation to practical activities in activating lessons.
