Women of important composers, involved in music
Chvalová, Viola ; Palkovská, Jana (advisor) ; Tichá, Libuše (referee)
In this thesis, I summarize the personal and professional profiles of a selection of musically active women who lived alongside prominent composers. These are six women artists from the Baroque to the 20th century. In each chapter, a different element of their lives became the focus of my interest. Sometimes, given the paucity of reliable sources of information (especially in relation to the Baroque period), this is merely a summary of hypotheses, sometimes I focus more on the professional side of the personality, and sometimes on personal and family matters. The thesis deals with sections of music history with which the general public is not so familiar and yet which I suppose deserve to be known. I focus on the virtuoso of the seventeenth-century harpsichordist Marie-Rose Dubois, who, alongside her husband J. B. Forqueray, was a concert artist, the singer and important creator of the Bach manuscripts Anna Magdalena Bachová, the outstanding singer of the classical period Josefina Dušková, the wife of the Czech composer F. X. Dušek. I also deal with the harpist and composer Sophie Corri-Dussek, wife of the musical bohemian J. L. Dusik, the most important 19th century pianist Clara Schumann and the opera singer Berta Lauterer, partner of the Czech composer J. B. Foerster. There are, of course, many...

Analysis of Formant Areas During Sung Vowels
Kukosa, František ; Švancara, Pavel (referee) ; Jirásek, Ondřej (advisor)
The study analyzes the formant zones of male voices in singing vowels with main focus on opera, chest and head vocal registers. The results of this work are based on the recordings of five singers, taken in an anechoic chamber. For the analysis of these recordings in the frequency domain were used the FFT algorithm and the LPC analysis. The results describe the nature of the individual registers and show the importance of the singing formants for singers. Especially for opera vocal register where the vocal formants, along with a natural vibrato technique, are very important.
Do you know what a fish will do when it runs up a hill?
Elznic, Zita ; Štroblová, Kateřina (referee) ; Rathouský, Luděk (advisor)
Diploma thesis entitled Do you know what a fish will do when it runs up a hill? concerns the topic of industrial fishing. Formally, it is an installation that contains two parts. The first part is an oval object on which are attached mechanical fish, which form a moving flock. Using engines, they interact with each other and the viewer accompanied by the song. The second part includes three separate mechanical fish, which create a direct dialogue with the viewer. The installation is located in a white cube. The result is to give the impression that the fish are alive and, with the help of a human voice, get closer to the viewer. Title Do you know what a fish does when it runs up a hill? based on a child's joke. This sentence is characteristic of the topic, in that it is all nonsense. The fish do not run, do not move on land and do not even talk. An attempt at this joke to humanize fish is quickly over when you know the answer. Just clapping tells us how foreign this different world is.
Personality and Work of Jan Nepomuk Polasek (1873-1956)
Chumchal, Jan
This dissertation thesis focuses on the person and work of Jan Nepomuk Polášek (1873-1956), a distinguished regional composer and music teacher who spent a significant part of his life in Valašské Meziříčí. Throughout his life, Polášek devoted himself to creative work, which was, to a varying degree, inspired by the Moravian Wallachian folk culture. The thesis outlines the important phases of Polášek's life including his childhood and school days, first contact with music teaching, his studies at the Brno Organ School, and, last but not least, his relationship with Leoš Janáček. The Biographical part of the thesis ends with a subchapter devoted to Polášek's work in Valašské Meziříčí until his death in 1956. Polášek's body of work includes his compositions, music-related organisational activities, music teaching, publishing and folk song collecting. The aforementioned activities are presented and analysed in the remaining chapters of this dissertation thesis. The final chapter analyses selected instrumental, vocal-instrumental and vocal compositions of Polášek's, based on which it illustrates the key elements of his creative work. The thesis presents some entirely new findings regarding the life and work of Jan Nepomuk Polášek that are founded on many information sources the author obtained. Key...
Development and change in the quality of singing voice in women after the age of 50 and methods leading to optimisation of their vocal expression.
Hořejší, Anna ; Marešová, Jiřina (advisor) ; Filippi, Lukáš (referee)
A singing voice is a unique means of expressing people's emotions and feelings, helping one's mental health and satisfying the need for self-realization. Due to natural aging, health factors or lifestyle, problems may occur with age that affect vocal expression itself, such as voice color change, vocal range change, problems with singing longer phrases, or breathing difficulties. This phenomenon is not studied as intensively in the professional literature as, for example, the development of a child's voice, yet it is important to address it because it is an integral and inevitable part of the development of the voice and its effects have a negative impact on the psychological well-being of the singers. This work deals with the study of this phenomenon. Based on a literature review and a survey of amateur choral singers conducted, the work verified the existence of the phenomenon and summarizes information about specific problems, their causes and impacts on vocal expression. On the basis of information from this survey, more detailed interviews were carried out with singing teachers to obtain information about their personal experiences with the phenomenon and the methods used to minimize the effects of the various causes of the change in the quality of voice during this period. The work then...
