Problems of teaching Spanish pronuntiation
TONAROVÁ, Adéla
This thesis investigates the issue of teaching Spanish pronunciation in Czech educational settings, with a particular focus on the graphemes c (preceding the vowels e, i), z, and s in Spanish, along with associated pronunciation phenomena: the differentiation between // and /s/, seseo, and ceceo. Primarily, it identifies common pronunciation errors made by Czech students in the selected phenomenon and analyses the underlying causes of these errors. The introductory part explains the correct articulation of these graphemes in Spanish and the associated pronunciation phenomena. Furthermore, it informs about pronunciation levels based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CERF) and Plan curricular del Instituto Cervantes. Subsequently, the thesis provides a detailed description and analysis of research conducted on the Spanish pronunciation of twenty Czech high school students, focusing on the selected phenomenon. Moreover, the thesis examines responses of university students concerning the teaching of Spanish pronunciation in the educational institutions they attended prior to university enrolment. The research results are then compared with the requirements set in the curriculum documents. Finally, the thesis proposes some exercises to eliminate pronunciation errors.
Agreements and Disagreements between Automatic and Human Speaker Recognition
Development of phonemic awareness in preschool children utiziling the Elkonin method
Tesařová, Kamila ; Sotáková, Hana (advisor) ; Kucharská, Anna (referee)
The topic of the diploma thesis is Training the development of phonemic awareness in preschool children using the Elkonin method. The method serves as a tool for preventing difficulties in the development of reading and writing in primary school. The diploma thesis is focused mainly on the development of phonemic awareness and further on the development of language skills in selected children in a regular kindergarten. The thesis is divided into two parts. To the theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part defines the basic terms related to the topic - communication, language and speech, hearing. It introduces the reader to the development of a child's speech from the period of intrauterine development to the age of about six years. Due to the focus of the diploma thesis, the greatest emphasis is placed on the speech development of a preschool child. The content of the chapter devoted to speech development is also the definition of language levels of speech. The theoretical part in one of the chapters defines the concepts of phonetics, phonology and phonological abilities. This is followed by a section devoted to the development of phonological awareness and its level at the beginning of reading mastery. The personality of Daniil Boršovič Eľkonin and the method of Training the development...

Intonation of a French sentence with enumeration by Czech speakers - a contrastive study
Brožová, Wanda ; Suková Vychopňová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Jančík, Jiří (referee)
1 ABSTRACT The bachelor thesis " Intonation of a French sentence with enumeration by Czech speakers - a contrastive study" describes the issue of selected prosodic phenomena of these two languages with a closer focus on intonation. The theoretical part introduces phonetics and phonology in general and subsequently presents the Czech and French phonetic systems - their segmental and suprasegmental levels. This bachelor thesis therefore describes the syllabic system and the basic prosodic elements of both languages studied. Among the basic prosodic phenomena, it describes the syllable, rhythm, rhythmic group, accent, and intonation. The practical part focuses on the analysis of intonation of Czech speakers in a French sentence with enumeration. A recording of a native speaker and a recording from the textbook (from which the sentence with enumeration was used for the recordings) are also analysed for comparison. The aim of the practical part was to find out whether native Czech speakers who speak French would follow the intonation of their native language for the given type of sentence or whether they would be proficient enough to use the intonation typical of the French language for a declarative sentence with enumeration. Through contrastive comparison and analysis using the program Praat, it was found that...
Automatické osvojení vzorů s minimální supervizí
Klíč, Radoslav ; Hana, Jiří (advisor) ; Hlaváčová, Jaroslava (referee)
The thesis presents a semi-supervised morphology learner developed by extending Paramor (Monson, 2009), an unsupervised system, to accept easy to obtain manually provided data in the form of inflections with marked morpheme boundary. In addition, a hierarchical clustering framework allowing combination of multiple sources of information was developed as a part of the thesis. The approach was tested on Czech, Slovene, German and Catalan and has shown increased F-measure in comparison with the Paramor baseline.
Russian vowel system in comparison with Czech
Hušek, Jan ; Nazarenko, Liliya (advisor) ; Žofková, Hana (referee)
The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to compare the articulation and distribution of Czech and Russian vowels and on the basis of differences devise a suitable way of articulation of Russian vowels for Czech learners. The thesis is divided into two parts; the first one describes the articulation of vowels, the differences in quality and quantity in both languages and quality changes caused by suprasegmental language units with an accent on reductions of the 1st and 2nd degree in Russian. The second part offers a system of phonetic exercises designed in order to improve the articulation of Russian vowels which is primarily intended for Czech pupils. Key words phonetics, phonology, speech sounds, vowel
Language Awareness of Children at the Early School
Votrubová, Alena ; Kucharská, Anna (advisor) ; Špačková, Klára (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyse the linguistic awareness of children at the first and second grade of elementary school in both reading methods, i.e. the analytic-synthetic and the genetic method of reading. In the theoretical part of the thesis, the critical analysis of the terms "linguistic awareness" and "linguistic sense" is done and further the approaches and traditions used abroad are compared to actual situation in the Czech Republic. In the analytic part of the thesis, the research project focused on the comparison of two tests of linguistic awareness is developed. The first method is the traditional Linguistic Sense Examination (Žlab, 1992), used not only for the diagnosing of the specific learning disorders, but also for diagnosing of bilingual children, children from minority groups and children with hearing or mental disabilities. The second method is the new Linguistic Awareness Test (Kucharská, Šmejkalová, under the preparation) prepared in the cooperation with Department of Czech Language and the Department of psychology PedF UK. In the research project, there were 40 schoolchild from the first and second grade of elementary school, 20 of them in the analytic-synthetic method of reading and 20 of them in the genetic method of reading. Several areas were monitored. Firstly, the...
