Folklore Movement as a Bridge between Folk Music and Other Worlds
Kratochvíl, Matěj
Folklore movement in the second half of the 20th century played several roles. It was a tool of propaganda but at the same time a means to preserving tradition or original art form. One of its roles, however, remains somewhat aside the main focus. As the original forms of folk music and dances were disappearing, the revival of them through performance by folk ensembles became the main, and often the only way of bringing the traditions to wider public. This was contributed to by interconnection of folk movement with mass media and recording industry. Through these channels the folk music reached musicians of various genres, who were thus introduced to the sound of folk music from Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. Based on their impressions, some of these musicians then decided to include the folk components in their own compositions. The result is a number of projects and recordings, where folk elements are mixed with jazz, rock, ballads or electronic music. The paper attempts to present possible answers to the question to what extent the folklore movement, as an institutionalised form of reviving traditional culture, influenced acceptance of this culture in other areas of music. The research, which forms the base of this contribution, analyses recordings and presents interviews of musicians from varied areas and of different generations.

The master's thesis is focused on the presence of folk music and culture in the work of four Czech authors, Bedřich Smetana, Antonín Dvořák, Leoš Janáček and Bohuslav Martinů. In the theoretical part, the composers are introduced in chronological order. The emphasis is put on the key moments and influences that subsequently shaped their relationship to folk music. There is also provided the historical and social context necessary for understanding the topic. Furthermore, there are also stated and described the compositions that are inspired by folk music or use it explicitly. The compositions are stated alongside corresponding sheet music. In the practical part, selected compositions, which were discussed in the theoretical part, are used as material for teaching activities. These activities were created for teaching music education at lower secondary schools. In the activities, accessible folk music is used as a mean to understand more demanding classical music. All activities are tested in pedagogical practice and are therefore provided with a description, goals, methodological commentary, and graphic materials.

Choral music in Albania
Rapaj, Mario ; Pecháček, Stanislav (advisor) ; Stříteská, Leona (referee)
This thesis discusses the development of Albanian choral music from the early 20th century to the present. It provides a general history of Albanian culture and politics as context for the rapid changes that happened during the 20th century and how that has influenced the musical life of the Albanian people. The significance of this influence is then represented and analyzed through the works of three prominent Albanian choral composers from different generations, whose lives and body of work span the last century. Through these analyses, we explore the evolution of Albanian choral music and how modern composers preserve traditional folk elements, yet are influenced by the cultural and political environment of their respective time.

Čížková, Karla ; Hník, Ondřej (advisor) ; Hausenblas, Ondřej (referee)
The main aim of this thesis is to provide the reader with the overview of the work of female authors of lyrics and show the topics they are mainly interested in. The partial aim is to find out if some specific female topics and specific female expression and language exist. The core of the work is commented antology of texts. There are included texts of authors who are authors of music and interprets concurrently, who have been working in ten last years and released at least one CD. I come to the conclusion that women are writing mostly about partner relationships, love as a special kind of emotion, family and maternity and also their own position in world, faith and sexuality. Typical of female authors is that they view at the things as if men could not understand the same topics. Specific is also language of female authors and motives they use as the means of expression: they are particulary delicate and tender images and metaphores, intuitive and playful puns. In some texts women try to oppose the stereotype of women putting the text into typicaly mens ambience and using "mens" dictionary.
