Fleas as hosts and vectors of bacteria
Hovorková, Jana ; Hammerbauerová, Iva (advisor) ; Myslivcová Fučíková, Alena (referee)
Fleas (Siphonaptera) are worldwide significant ectoparasites and vectors of several human pathogens. The most serious flea-born infections include plague, rickettsiosis and bartonellosis caused by Yersinia pestis, Rickettsia spp. and Bartonella spp. I have focused on the microbiome of fleas with an emphasis on bacteria which are transmitted by fleas or are pathogenic, mutualistic or commensal in relation to their flea host, from the point of view of their mutual interactions. The composition of the flea microbiome can be influenced both by mutual interactions between individual bacteria and by many different factors, which include, for example, the species or gender of flea or its host, humidity and temperature of the environment or geographic location.
Prediction of effects of single point mutations on protein-nucleic acids interactions
Štěpánková, Věra Tereza ; Novotný, Marian (advisor) ; Neuwirthová, Tereza (referee)
Single point mutations are the most common type of mutations and many of them can have pathogenic effects, it is therefore useful to be able to correctly and effectively predict their impact on a given protein. Proteins interacting with nucleic acids are essential for most cellular processes. Progress in computational methods and machine learning enables the development of increasingly high-quality tools for predicting the effect of mutations on proteins. An important category of these predictors are tools for predicting the effect of single point mutations on protein interactions with nucleic acids. This thesis focuses on currently available tools for prediction of missense mutation effect on protein-NA interactions, which predict quantitative changes in protein and nucleic acid affinity and estimate the severity of the mutation based on this change. Attention is also paid to methods for evaluating the quality of predictions of individual tools. Keywords: point mutation, prediction, interaction, mechanism
The object of interaction
Kallus, Martin ; Písaříková, Jana (referee) ; Korbička, Pavel (advisor)
The bachelor's thesis on the topic Object of interaction deals with the body and its occupancy of space. It draws on my exploration of manual play and relationships to the human body. To examine them, it uses methods, procedures and means of creative spatial creation. One of the results of this research will be an interactive metal object, consisting of several modular units, which can be rearranged and thus transform the space defined by steel modules.
Design and setup of an experiment to verify the interaction of a magnetic field with a flowing liquid
Sikora, Petr ; Himr, Daniel (referee) ; Fialová, Simona (advisor)
This thesis deals with the design of a magnetic circuit in order to experimentally verify the effect of an electromagnetic field on a cavitating liquid. In comparison to previous research, this paper presents a comprehensive analysis of this interaction using non-equilibrium thermodynamics. In addition, the theoretical part also focuses on selected topics from electromagnetic field theory with respect to the problem at hand. Based on this research and using FEM software for 2D (FEMM) and subsequently 3D problems (Ansys Maxwell), two models of the magnetic circuit were designed, optimized and built. The final assembly was then used in an experiment. The presence of chemical compounds with disinfectant effects was determined from samples of the affected liquid. Finally, the electrical voltage induced on the electrodes attached to the measuring circuit was also measured.
Skinhead subculture within post-industrial era and its possible development through the eyes of its own members
Jakubčanin, Petr ; Maslowski, Nicolas (advisor) ; Urban, Lukáš (referee)
This diploma thesis is based on the essence of the subculture anchored in the post- industrial era. Through the relevant literature, I theoretically analyze the relationship of the skinhead subculture to the dominant culture and uncover its characteristics formed mainly by the influences of globalization, actual capitalist system and mutual interaction of various social factors. I also focus on the specific signs and internal differentiation of the subculture, which are related to its politicization. In the empirical part, I focus on answering research questions through qualitative research, which aims to reveal the emic perception of subculture in the post-industrial era through the eyes of its members themselves. The testimonies of skinheads about the current state of their subculture and its possible future development are then thoroughly analyzed and interpreted.
Interactive architecture
Müller, Tomáš ; Stavric, Milena (referee) ; Kaftan, Martin (advisor)
Interactive architecture The world today is constantly dynamically changing. Along with the world, the environment in which people live is changing as well. Architecture, which has been focused on improving and enhancing the surrounding environment for the benefit of mankind since the beginning of humanity, now has the opportunity to come to life and become interactive thanks to technological advancements. Interactive architecture, which dynamically adapts to changing conditions and human needs, can lay the foundation for a robust and adaptable solution that could contribute to more resilient and sustainable architecture in the future. In this work, the use of contemporary digital design techniques will allow the potential of the ancient art of origami - the art of folding paper - to be combined with today’s technology. Thanks to this connection, it is possible to create architecture that will be able to change and adapt to various human needs. This thesis focuses on the digitisation of origami, the development of structures inspired by the Miura origami pattern, the transition from paper shells to kinetic movable shells, and the development of a digital tool capable of designing and controlling the behaviour of interactive shells. The behaviour of the interactive components will be tested through digital simulations.
