HOW TO MOVE ON WHEN THE STATION IS GONE?
Jálová, Kateřina ; Illéš, Juraj (referee) ; Zemánková, Helena (advisor)
The diploma thesis is based on the pre-diploma project, which deals with the vacant buildings after the railway is moved from the center of Brno to the newly proposed location of the transport hub according to the KAM study. The diploma project focuses specifically on the heritage-listed building of the Brno main railway station. The aim is to find a suitable function for this building and to integrate it into the context between the historic center and the newly built southern quarter. The proposal also solves the building's surroundings, which include the area of the vacant railway track and the station forecourt with its complex traffic situation, which has been one of the least popular public spaces in the city for many years.

A new life for the factory = a new life for Portlaw
Galusková, Hana ; Plášil, Jiří (referee) ; Boháč, Ivo (advisor)
Master´s thesis describes the revitalization of a former cotton factory site and later tannery. The abandoned factory building, the chimney, the former engine room, the canal, and other secondary buildings are uncontrollably absorbed by nature. The place has an exceptional charm thanks to the contrast of raw materials and the amount of greenery, but the lack of maintenance of individual structures shortens their lifespan. The main idea of the design is the conservation of the preserved objects of the factory, support of historical values, and preservation of nature in a man-made space. The proposal describes the creation of a multi-purpose area that creates employment opportunities, a form of recreation and public space for the residents of Portlaw, as well as an attraction within the region and for tourism. The functional content is a botanical garden with an exterior and interior part, a public space with a market, small spaces for rent, a food court, accommodation, and areas with hydroponics. Each functional unit works independently, and at the same time, complements each other - grown products from hydroponics are sold at the market, visitors to the botanical garden use accommodation, and people who rent spaces visit the food court. The goal was to bring new life to the factory and thus revive the town of Portlaw. The functional content of the entire area uplifts the history as well as the current state of the place.
HOW TO MOVE ON WHEN THE STATION IS GONE?
Valíček, Viktor ; Illéš, Juraj (referee) ; Zemánková, Helena (advisor)
HOW TO MOVE ON WHEN THE STATION IS GONE? "I'll tell you how. It will be pretty crappy!" (visitor to the exhibition of the same name as the pre-graduate analytical project, 2024) The purpose of the urbanistic-architectural inquiry entitled "How to move on when the station is gone?" is particularly focused on the scenario where several historically protected buildings of significant urban importance in Brno lose their function due to the relocation of a major railway junction. That means, for the preservation of a functional city structure, it is necessary to find a new and equally significant utilization. Especially considering the location and real as well as abstract significance of these buildings. A crucial aspect is the location at the interface between the newly emerging city district in a brownfield area without identity and the oldest historic city center. Former structures associated with the railway aspire to become new significant urban landmarks capable of mediating the soul and identity of Brno to the new district. Connection is the main theme introduced by the urbanistic concept for the conversion of the area, developed in collaboration with the atelier colleagues Šimon Mareček and Kateřina Jálová. The study also builds upon the ideas of the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno, especially the concept of completing the green urban circuit (following the example of Vienna's Ringstrasse) and the idea of revealing the historic so-called Ferdinand Viaduct. The area is further divided into three consecutive sections (subtitles of three diploma theses). This work primarily focuses on the conversion of the released Amerika building and the newly designed urban space 'underlining the dominant feature of Brno - the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul'. "If a book of unfinished pages lies in front of us, its structure is already inscribed in the essence of the work itself." (Prof. Ivan Koleček, 2010) Amerika possesses an amazing genius loci and great potential to become a significant landmark for its surroundings. The "book of unfinished pages" of the former warehouse building has a structure so distinct and valuable that its violent rewriting would border on sacrilege. The building needs to be approached with extreme sensitivity, highlighting its qualities and adapting the space to new functions with necessary delicate interventions to avoid the destruction of the "structure of the work itself". The project aims to improve access to the building, creating connections with the adjacent park to the east through the revealed Ferdinand Viaduct and with the future city street with multifunctional buildings to the west. Better accessibility of the building is ensured by a level connection leading through a symbolic gate from the newly designed houses opening onto the proposed square beneath Petrov (the Cathedral of Saint Peter and Paul) to the main urban transport hub.
Human ecosystem
Lapšanská, Gabriela ; Vitková, Lubica (referee) ; Mléčka, Jan (advisor)
The diploma thesis focuses on the conversion of a railway brownfield. Abandoned and contaminated areas are currently becoming valuable resources for ecological sustainability and contribute to improving the quality of life in the city. The aim of the work is to find alternatives while respecting the existing construction with minor architectural interventions. Connecting the area with the urban structure, meaningful functional fulfillment, and year-round programming ensure the pulsation of a ‚living center‘ in the emerging landscape forest park.
REVITALIZATION AND SPATIAL CULTIVATION DOMINICAN MONASTERY IN ZNOJMO
Strnková, Markéta ; Lukačovič, Adam (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
The project deals with the revitalization and spatial cultivation of the Dominican monastery with adjacent parish in Znojmo. The monastery is located near the castle walls in the historic center of Znojmo, on the street Dolní Česká. Gradually, should be its conversion from the original method of use to a new use, in order not to delay construction and degradation due to an empty object. The complex, its location and the actual functionality offers precondition for the formation of a community center with associated social housing. The community center should use the premises of the monastery, along with commerce and parishes. Living on the contrary, the rectory and the newly created mass in the courtyard.
Synthesis of Mineral Oils by Oligomeration of 1-alkenes
Porubský, Tomáš ; Kučera, František (referee) ; Petrůj, Jaroslav (advisor)
The theoretical part presents a summary of existing information and procedures for the oligomerization of 1 alkenes. It also introduces suggestion of the new method for preparing poly(1-hexene) by controlled or living polymerization with nitroxyl radicals. In the experimental part was synthesized oligomer of 1-hexene with DBP or AIBN radical initiators and coordination Ziegler-Natta catalysts, which consisted of TiCl4 and organometallic compounds TIBA or TNHA. GC/MS analysis of the radical polymerization reaction mixture, showed no oligomer formation even after 6 hours. Effect of Ti/Al ratio, temperature and type of organoaluminium compund on conversion and molecular weight were investigated. Reaction products were analyzed by 1H NMR and GC/MS spectrometry. Results showed that the obtained oligomer was a mixture of oligomers with a degree of polymerization 2-9 and average molecular weight of 220-270 g/mol. Monomer conversion reached values of 72 98 %.
MW Converter for SW Receiver
Lejsková, Alena ; Lukeš, Zbyněk (referee) ; Šebesta, Jiří (advisor)
This thesis concerns about the network synthesis of receivers with the demand for conversion of the input signal and a following implementation of assigned converter. At first it introduces the readers with the basic division of radio waves and with parts, which are important for a high-quality receiver, then it deals with general properties of input networks of receivers, division of parts and kinds of connection, that are used in the communications. The concept of connection is intended to nonspecialists too, that is why it describes step by step each of parts of the network, including the calculation or possible solution and the choice of convenient parts. The aim is also to present the frequency conversion as an important part of signal receiving that we want to use in communication systems.
