Female rituals in ancient Greece from the viewpoint of modern interpretations

This thesis looks at two women's rituals practiced in Ancient Greece - the Thesmophoria and the Adonia - and their interpretations by Marcel Detienne, Hendrik S. Versnel, John J. Winkler and Barbara E. Goff. The aim of the thesis is to analyze their four methods of interpretation of the rituals and illuminate how they fit within the context of contemporary debates between structuralism and post-structuralism, and ideology and agency. The paper illustrates how the various methods of interpretation - if approached critically - may be found valuable for the analysis of ideology and suggests new approaches to studies of Greek women's rituals and of the process, in which gender ideology is produced in the rituals. The interpretations should also offer an insight into the manner in which the rituals addressed Greek women on the issues of their fertility, sexuality, and their position within the patriarchal society. The thesis is divided into two parts: the first part deals with particular interpretations of the four scholars; the second one attempts to analyze their methodological approaches focusing on their assumptions and conclusions.

Tato disertační práce je založena na výzkumu luxusní gastronomie, který byl uskutečněn ve dvou luxusních restaurací v Praze. Analýza se zaměřuje na gastronomický zážitek jakožto afektivní komoditu a prostředek sociální, ekonomické a politické transformace. Studie se soustředí na způsoby produkce a komodifikace afektu a vytváření hodnoty v rámci luxusní zážitkové gastronomie. Také analyzuje roli afektu při transformaci jednotlivců, společnosti, spotřebních praktik, podnikatelských praktik, a práce. Ukazuje, jak experti na gastronomii vzdělávají veřejnost ohledně správných spotřebních praktik a stravovacích návyků. Jídlo a jeho konzumace fungují jako " technologie sebe samého" (Rose 2004), jejíchž prostřednictvím je dosaženo individuálního a sociálního zdraví. Kultivovaný afekt se stává prostředkem "purifikace od socializmu" (Eyal 2003) a také hraje důležitou roli při vytváření etického spotřebitele a občana (Muehlebach 2011). The Social Making of the Illusion of Hospitality

Tato práce je založena na výzkumu prováděném v luxusní restauraci v Praze. Zaměřuje se na služby poskytované pracovníky restaurace a zkoumá, jak jejich práce přispívá k produkci luxusního pohostinství. Práce rozšiřuje antropologické a sociologické porozumění práce. Zaměřením na práci v službách odpovídá na rostoucí důležitost služeb v moderní ekonomice. Data nashromážděná zúčastněným pozorováním a rozhovory jsou analyzována pomocí pojetí ekonomie symbolických statků Pierra Bourdieu. Analýza odkrývá prvky směny darů, která definuje luxusní služby. Za použití konceptu nároku Rachel Shermanové, dešifruje nerovnosti mezi producenty a konzumenty služeb, které vznikají během vytváření pohostinství. Studie se také zaměřuje na mocenské strategie, které pracovníci používají, aby se vyrovnali se svojí podřízenou rolí a dali své práci smysl.
