The experience of Czech seniors with misinformation
Pichl, Štěpán ; Wolák, Radim (advisor) ; Šimková, Karolína (referee)
This bachelor's thesis examines the relationship of Czech seniors to disinformation, their ability to critically analyze information, methods of verifying information, and possibilities for improving their media literacy. The theoretical part of the work is divided into three segments: a description of the phenomenon of disinformation, the position of disinformation in the Czech media context, and the specifics of seniors in the Czech Republic, including the connections between aging and cognitive biases. The practical part is based on a qualitative analysis of semi- structured interviews with ten senior respondents. The research showed that most seniors consider disinformation a serious problem. However, some display apathy or resignation regarding the topic, and their views on government measures against disinformation reflect their political attitudes. Although many see media education as beneficial, only a minority have a clear understanding of it, and many seniors refuse participation in educational programs. The research recommends increased socialization of seniors and initiatives to support media education, which should be focused on more effective use of technologies and new media.
Social media in a group of children aged 9-11
Čermáková, Petra ; Rosenfeldová, Jana (advisor) ; Wolák, Radim (referee)
This thesis focuses on the research of the influence of social networks on relationships in a group of children aged 9-11 years. The theoretical part examines the development of social networks, the psychological development of children at this age and the risks associated with their use. The empirical part is based on qualitative research conducted through in-depth interviews with children and their parents. Analysis of the data using the method of interpretive phenomenological analysis revealed that children in the mentioned age range actively use social networks, despite the fact that there are age restrictions set by platforms. For them, social networks are mainly a means of communication and connection with peers, which can have a positive effect on bonds in the team and maintaining contacts outside the school environment. However, serious risks, such as cyberbullying, social exclusion and envy, have been identified as associated with children's social media activities. The results of this work can serve as a starting point for further research in this area and as a support for the development of appropriate preventive measures.

Poláková, Kristýna ; Hodboď, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Wolák, Radim (referee)
I Abstract This thesis' main theme is media education at secondary technical schools in Liberec region - SPŠ a VOŠ Liberec, SPŠ stavební Liberec a VOŠMOA Jablonec nad Nisou. The theoretical part defines media education, media literacy and digital literacy. The thesis presents materials which serve as the main source for creating the school education programme (ŠVP) for different specializations. Three methods which can be used while teaching media education are also described - cooperative learning, discussion and inquiry-based learning. In the practical part six teachers from three different schools were interviewed. These interviews showed that no school offers media education as a separate subject in the school year of 2023/2024, even though the respondents consider it to be important. The biggest issues with creating a separate subject seem to lie in insufficient time options and insufficient teacher qualification. Each interviewed teacher focuses on media literacy differently during their lessons: some analyse texts, some oral speech, some practice using different sources and their citations.

Richterová, Karolína ; Wolák, Radim (advisor) ; Lütke Notarp, Ulrike (referee)
This thesis examines the impact of media on adolescents' lifestyles, more specifically on two aspects of lifestyle, namely physical activity and sleep. Within the Covid-19 pandemic period, individuals were forced to stay in their homes, and all their social contact, as well as school and work obligations, shifted to the online environment. With this, screen time also increased, as did the associated sedentary behaviour. As they were all forced to be isolated, sports and leisure activities were also very limited or often also transferred to the online environment. The aim of this thesis is therefore to try to define the habits of adolescents in terms of physical activity, sleep and media consumption, and how these aspects are interconnected, and whether adolescents perceive this interconnection. The aim was also to provide some education to the individuals, where they were then confronted with recommendations for particular aspects of lifestyle (sleep and physical activity), but also recommendations regarding media consumption. As lifestyle was strongly influenced by the Covid-19 disease pandemic, the aim was also to see how individual students' habits changed within this period, but also afterwards. Within the framework of this work, qualitative research was conducted. Using in-depth interviews...

Novotná, Barbora ; Wolák, Radim (advisor) ; Klimeš, David (referee)
This thesis examines chain emails during the 2023 Czech presidential election. The practical part outlines the most important concepts related to disinformation. However, it also presents the impact of chain emails and their most common spread among the senior generation. It additionally looks at presidential election issues and disinformation shared directly by candidates. The second part of the thesis analyzes the chain emails shared two months before the election until the second round of the election and their impact on voters. Thus, the practical part deals not only with the content and language but also with the candidates' portrayal. It focuses on the main favorites of the election, Petr Pavel, Andrej Babiš and Danuša Nerudová. Nevertheless, at the same time it furthermore spotlights on candidate Jaroslav Bašta, who is directly linked to the disinformation scene. The practical part does not leave out the disinformation contained in the chain emails. During the research, the thesis uses both quantitative content analysis and qualitative semiotic analysis. By combining these two methods, it is able to provide a comprehensive picture of the influence of chain emails. Finally, the findings of both analyses are linked to a common conclusion that will present the influence of emails on voters.
