The Influence of Social Networks on Parents in Relation to Infant and Toddler Nutrition
Hromadová, Lenka ; Weidenthalerová, Edita (advisor) ; Honzejková, Kateřina (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the influence of social networks on parental decision-making regarding infant and toddler feeding. Early nutrition is critical to child development and influences future health. Parenting is a decision-filled challenge, especially with such a vast amount of information from various sources, including social media, which can cause confusion and uncertainty about the best childcare. The aim of this paper is to assess how much parents trust information from influencers compared to expert recommendations, and how social media influences their preferences regarding their children's nutrition. The theoretical section covers the basics of nutrition in the first three years of life, including breastfeeding, infant formula, and transition to solid foods. The practical part explores how parents use social networks as a source of information about infant and toddler nutrition and how this information influences their decision-making. This section also analyses trends and myths on social media. The results show that parents strongly trust pediatricians and consider them a reliable source of information on child nutrition, in contrast to low trust in advice and recommendations from influencers. This result suggests that parents tend to rely on verified experts. Providing accurate and...
Monitoring fiber and protein intake in obese clients of a nutrition counseling center
Kekrtová, Magdaléna ; Pejšová, Hana (advisor) ; Weidenthalerová, Edita (referee)
The obesity epidemic is still a very topical problem and requires a comprehensive therapy that includes nutritional counselling. In my practical experience, the topic of protein and fibre tends to be very common with obese clients and I often observe less than appropriate choices in terms of protein sources. Fibre is not given much importance and therefore its adequate intake is not optimal. Therefore, the theoretical part aimed to summarize the current knowledge about obesity, protein and fibre. However, nutrition in obesity is summarised in a comprehensive way, taking into account other nutrients, but also micronutrients or drinking, which may also be significantly related to obesity. The theoretical summary of obesity was summarized rather marginally. In terms of treatment approaches, diet therapy, physical activity or psychotherapy are more approached. The importance of the nutritional therapist is not neglected. The practical part was quite comprehensive. The aim of the study was to assess dietary habits (qualitatively and quantitatively, focusing mainly on protein and fibre), body composition before and after the nutritional intervention and thus to evaluate the effect of the therapy. It was also intended to provide information on the original dietary habits of obese individuals in terms of...

Nutritional and sensory value of meat alternatives
Gregorová, Ema ; Doležal, Marek (advisor) ; Weidenthalerová, Edita (referee)
Meat alternatives are playing an increasingly important role not only in the diet of vegetarians and vegans, their nutritional value and sensory properties are often a matter of discussion. The aim of this thesis was to evaluate nutritional and sensory value of meat analogues nutritionally and the conclusion of the paper is dedicated to the comparison of nutritional values with those of beef. A total of 17 samples were analyzed, most of the analysis is devoted to 16 meat alternatives, the sensory analysis included a sample of animal meat for comparison of organoleptic properties. Several methods were used to determine the nutritional values in the samples: gravimetry (determination of dry matter content), Soxhlet extraction (determination of fat content), Kjeldahl method (determination of protein content), GC/FID (determination of fatty acid composition), sensory analysis. The determination of dry matter, protein and fat provided quantitative data which were used to calculate the carbohydrate content. The fat content of the meat alternatives evaluated ranged from 0,2-22,5 g/100 g, the protein content ranged from 6,7-57,4 g/100 g and the carbohydrate content from 1,15-37,8 g/100 g. The ratio of nutrients in the alternatives was more diverse than in the animal meat. The analysis of fatty acid...
Patients' knowledge of scientific and alternative diet, functional foods in the Czech Republic
Weidenthalerová, Edita ; Svačina, Štěpán (advisor) ; Vysoká, Lenka (referee)
This Bachelor's thesis deals with issue of patient's knowledge in field of scientific and alternative dietology. The Bachelor's thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The first theoretical part deals with dietology from two points of view - wide-spread and well-known rational nutrition, also it addresses alternative diets. Furthermore, funtional foods, their efficient components and benefits for the health are analyzed. The practical part validates predefined hypotheses, concerning the knowledge of patients, who are being cured mostly for obesity or Diabetes Mellitus. It involves their personal experiences with using dietary supplements or medications used to heal above mentioned diseases. The data was collected using questionnaire. Evaluated results are presented in graphs. The main fact coming out of the analysis is that most of ill people have deeper experience with dietary supplement than medications. They also do not think that these supplements or medications actually help them. The theoretical knowledge of alternative dietology were very useful because patients had almost no personal experience with that type of dietology. The main goal of this Bachelor's thesis is to generally point out that proper diet can prevent a lot of diseases. Key words: Obesity, Diabetes Mellitus,...
The influence of school meals and family on the development of overweight and childhood obesity
Skřivanová, Eliška ; Kytnarová, Jitka (advisor) ; Weidenthalerová, Edita (referee)
Currently childhood obesity has reached epidemiological levels and can be considered one of the world's biggest problems. The probability of an obese child becoming an obese adult is dangerously high. These children are also more likely to develop health risks. The mechanism of development of obesity is conditioned by a number of factors. These are most often genetic factors, whilst their environment also plays a large role. In this case the influence of the family and the preferred lifestyle, which plays a significant part in the development of obesity, may be a factor. Early treatment and detection is important to prevent future issues with weight and serious health risks. However in order for obesity to be treated, it must first be diagnosed, the so-called diagnosis of childhood obesity. School meals in Czech Republic are considered to be one of the most advanced in Europe. It is not about providing a sufficiently strict diet, it also pays attention to variety, balance of dishes and dining culture. School meals must comply with the legislation, comply with financial limits and follow nutritional standards, respectively a consumer basket that sets out the required quantity of ten food commodities per pupil a day and these have to be adhered to within one month. The environment of prevention...

In the practical part, the results from an anonymous, quantitative questionnaire survey, which was intended for parents of children of younger school age (6-11 years), are first evaluated both graphically and in...
