Wančová, Nina ; Stehlík, Michal (advisor) ; Frank, Jiří (referee) ; Grulich, Petr (referee)
Museums are traditional and collection based cultural institutions. From the very beginning of the 20th century the established approaches in museums have been continuously challenged by social and technological changes. New topics including modernization are newly in the centre of interest. The dissertation examines use of technologies and new media ideas as the starting point of complex museum modernization while keeping the use appropriate and meaningful for museum content. There are three main areas where new media are used in museums: 1. museum presentation, 2. visitor engagement, 3. online communication and PR. The main method used to examine the current state of using new media in Czech museums was quantitative research with surveys. With regard to the dynamic development in the area of the research surveys were conducted longitudinally in 2015 and in 2020. This approach helped to capture more complex reality, including changes and trends in time. Respondents are museum employees from 358 institutions. The use of new media for museum displays increased significantly, while less than a half of the museums launched an online exhibition project. Almost all museums are offering accompanying programs and more than 80 % also offer game activities. The amount of museums which are not online at all...

Identifying user needs for museum website visitors with the main focus on families with children
Stará, Tereza ; Wančová, Nina (advisor) ; Pýcha, Čeněk (referee)
The bachelor thesis focuses on the user needs of families with children in the museum website environment. The bachelor thesis maps the user needs of families with children and analyses the web interface of the institution Centrum stavitelského dědictví Plasy. The theoretical part focused on the role of websites for museum institutions and linked these findings to the behaviour of families with children in museums. The practical part of the thesis consists of qualitative research in the form of interviews with ten representatives of parents and children and their analysis. The questions focused on the circumstances of visits, families' decision-making and reflection on the sites. The research shows what makes families with children a specific target group visiting museums and what their specific needs are, and importantly, the physical visit cannot be separated from their user needs on the institution's website. These user needs should also be reflected on the website of the respective organisations, which is increasingly the case nowadays. Although more and more museums are focusing on families, the thesis also identifies room for improvement, both in general and with a set of specific recommendations for the Centrum stavitelského dědictví Plasy website.
Text use in museum exhibitions
Fournial, Monika ; Wančová, Nina (advisor) ; Pýcha, Čeněk (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with written text in museum exhibitions. Although texts are a common part of museum exhibitions, we do not have many professional materials or visitor studies in the Czech Republic that deal with working with museum text in greater depth. This paper describes the changing use of text as a communication tool between museum and visitor since the second half of the 20th century and its current use in various forms of exhibitions. It summarizes the findings and approaches for working with content, based on the hierarchical and functional structure of museum text, and with form, which relates to the visual presentation of museum text. The aim was to evaluate the relationship between content processing and the subsequent visual presentation of information, and to assess their impact and benefit for the visitor. Methodologically, the research part combines content analysis of the texts of two introductory information panels and an online questionnaire survey. The results of the research confirmed that the length and clarity of the text are crucial factors that influence visitors' motivation to read the texts in the museum and to what extent. The paper concludes by confirming the assumptions made in the research findings to date and formulating recommendations for working with text that...

Peřina, Milan ; Jareš, Jakub (advisor) ; Wančová, Nina (referee)
In March of 2020, the Czech Republic was hit by the covidu-19 pandemic. This was followed by three waves of forced closures, which limited the activities of museums and galleries and prevented the public from visiting them. The museum presentation has therefore moved to the online sphere, where institutions sought to engage their online visitors with virtual tours, videos, social media communications and other projects. The aim of this diploma thesis was to find out what consequences the forced closures in 2020 had on Prague's museums and galleries and how these institutions managed to adapt in the online world. For this purpose, I chose the methods of a questionnaire survey and an interview. I contacted a total of 64 Prague's museums and galleries, from which I received 32 responses. The results point to far-reaching problems that forced closures have meant for these institutions. Even after reopening, visitor numbers did not return to the state before the covid-19 pandemic broke out. Nevertheless, none of the respondents is in immediate danger of extinction in the near future. The adaptation of Prague's museums and galleries in the online world turned out to be more optimistic. Institutions were able to create a whole range of interesting online projects that caught the attention of their...
