Evolution, Function and Chemical Diversity of Queen Pheromones in Social Insects
Kašparová, Kateřina ; Hanus, Robert (advisor) ; Urbanová, Klára (referee)
Societies of eusocial insects are probably the most complex biological systems. Repeated independent evolution of eusocial organization in multiple insect lineages has typically led to an unprecedented ecological success of these insects. However, beside coordinated work activities and altruism, the eusocial societies are also characterized by a potential for conflict over reproduction, leading to the evolution of mechanisms that prevent this conflict and ensure the colony homeostasis. Though it has long been known that this role is mediated by Queen Pheromones, there is still an important knowledge gap between our understanding of the biological role of Queen Pheromones and their chemical identity, biosynthesis and perception. Although the first Queen Pheromone has been identified in the early 1960s, more intensive research in this area is the matter of the last decade. The best known Queen Pheromone is that of the honey bee, contrasting with the knowledge on other social Hymenoptera and termites. Elucidating the chemical nature of Queen Pheromones could help to a better understanding of the evolution of social insects, their life cycle and community organization. This thesis summarizes the knowledge about the evolution and chemistry of Queen Pheromones in social insects.
Carbon Dioxide in Science Education (Study Aids for Grammar School)
Kristlová, Lucie ; Šulcová, Renata (advisor) ; Urbanová, Klára (referee)
Charles University in Prague - Faculty of Science Department of Teaching and Didactics of Chemistry Albertov 3, 128 40 Praha 2, Czech Republic CARBON DIOXIDE IN SCIENCE EDUCATION (STUDY AIDS FOR GRAMMAR SCHOOL) Bc. Lucie Kristlová lucie.kristlova@gmail.com In this thesis the principles of Framework Educational Programme and method IBSE alias Inquiry Based Science Education were summarized. The results of international research PISA 2006 were evaluated. In 2006 the focus was on scientific literacy. In the theoretical part the study supporting documents on the theme Carbon Dioxide were worked up. The documents would serve teachers of Chemistry and Biology mainly at the grammar schools. Methodically processed materials were created such as presentation, worksheet and subject matter of chemical experiments with the inclusion of the author solutions. The worksheet was verified by pupils at grammar school.
Quality of Life of Residents in Social Service Facility
Urbanová, Klára ; Vorlová, Marie (advisor) ; Nentvichová Novotná, Renáta (referee)
The bachelor thesis Quality of Life of Residents in Social Service Facility deals with the quality of life of seniors. The aim is to clarify the meaning, circumstances and conditions of quality of life of senior population. First of all the issue of ageing is developed from the point of view of society and of the individual. After that I deal with preparation for old age and with activities of social policy. There is also describe the topic of social services and their quality. After that I paied attention to explaining the topic of the concept of quality of life. The following part is focused on a specific organization, which is the Center of social services in Prague 1 and its care house, in which I conducted an illustrative survey. So the satisfaction of six residents in selected aspects of quality of life was examined. The aspects were following: health and self-sufficiency, interpersonal relationships, loneliness, privacy, material ensuring, and leisure activities. The findings from both parts of this thesis are summarized in the conclusion.
Chalkogens, halogens and rare gases in chemistry education at grammar school (subject matter in the form of presentation)
Vondráčková, Kristýna ; Čtrnáctová, Hana (advisor) ; Urbanová, Klára (referee)
This thesis is focused on the practical processing of secondary inorganic chemistry education (chalkogens, halogens, rare gases) in form of PowerPoint presentations. Emphasis is placed mainly on the created materials be usable in practice - in teaching chemistry at grammar schools. The intention is therefore to provide a modern didactic utility to teachers, which is from scientific point of view the current and maximum useful of the technical possibilities of presentations. Special emphasis is placed on activation of pupils. This thesis is worked up according to RVP-G.
Education of organic chemistry in high school - problem parts of subject
Tvarohová, Eliška ; Hybelbauerová, Simona (advisor) ; Urbanová, Klára (referee)
Teachers, while teaching, are facing to some sections of schoolwork which make serious problems to understand. The main task of this diploma thesis is solving the issue of organic chemistry on the field of Gymnasium. The pedagogical attitude was chosen for the selection of problem parts. New educational materials were purposed on the basis of gathered information and thanks to the research the efficiency of teaching the organic chemistry and its problematic parts should augment the undestanding of the problematic parts as well as the bettering of education. Theoretical part of the diploma thesis looks into the methodology of pedagogical research, curriculum documents, didactic methods and forms and literature exploration of defined problem parts of textbooks of organic chemisty for the high schools. Consequently, the practical part exposes results of the performed pedagogical research and the analyse of schoolbooks. Including noticed facts, the main output of the dissertation is the package of the new educational materials and various methods of education focused on the specific parts of the curriculum of organic chemistry, specificaly the set of the new instructional backgrounds solving the circumstances of organical chemistry. These educational materials and the proposed methods of education were also...

Acid-base process - PowerPoint presentation for secondary schools
Velgová, Denisa ; Čtrnáctová, Hana (advisor) ; Urbanová, Klára (referee)
and keywords Acid-base process PowerPoint presentation for secondary schools Abstract: At the present time, the requirements for the quality of nature sciences education in secondary schools are steadily increasing. However, the time approbation for teaching is relatively limited. Using presentations is going to be a possible way to increase the effectiveness of educational process and to take the full advantage of teaching methods which have positive effect on the motivation and activation of students. The goal of this Diploma work is to create a collection of teaching presentations in the MS PowerPoint application with a view to a part of general chemistry, i.e. the theme Acid-base process in the curriculum for four-year grammar schools or alternatively for higher years of longer grammar schools. These presentations are processed to be used in the real chemistry lessons in secondary schools. The subject matter of the curriculum is divided into five chapters, one chapter corresponds to one presentation. In order to facilitate the orientation of potential user every presentation is provided with an accompanying text. The electronic version of presentations is attached to Diploma work. Keywords: secondary school chemistry, general chemistry, acid-base process, student motivation, PowerPoint presentation
