The abuse of sedatives and hypnotics from the user's perspective
Rokosová, Kateřina ; Šťastná, Lenka (advisor) ; Minařík, Jakub (referee)
Background: Sedatives and hypnotics are substances to calm or relieve anxiety and to induce sleep. Long term prescription of benzodiazepines/Z-drugs may lead to the development of tolerance and the need to increase the dose. It is important to be aware of the risks of uncontrolled use of these drugs, such as harmful interactions with other substances, side effects and potential for abuse or addiction. Aim: The aim of this research was to describe abuse of sedatives and hypnotics from the user's perspective, to focus on circumstances leading to drug abuse, to describe beginning and course of the use of these drugs and self-awareness of the problem. The aim was also to describe the current state of users and their needs. Sample: The research sample consisted of 6 participants, of which 4 women and 2 men currently or recently using sedatives and hypnotics (specifically benzodiazepines/Z-drugs). Methods: Data were collected through a qualitative approach using a semi-structured interview. Interviews were conducted, rewritten into protocol summary, further analysed using thematic analysis, modified using open and axial coding and categorization methods. Results: Respondents may have misused sedatives and hypnotics to self-medicate symptoms. These drugs were prescribed for the first time with...
Monitoring biologicky aktivních látek v kávě
Rokosová, Kateřina
The topic of this Master thesis is The Monitoring of Biologically Active Substances of Coffee. The technological production of coffee beans from harvesting the crops to the final packaging is described in the theoretical part, together with the chemical composition of both green and roasted coffee beans. The next part sums up the current knowledge of biologically active substances that can be found in coffee and their effect on human health. The main focus has been put on phenolic compounds and their antioxidant properties. The last chapter of the theoretical part tells of modern ways which are used to define phenolic compounds. The practical part of the thesis identifies phenolic compounds in coffee beans of two kinds, Coffea arabica and Coffea canephora, roasted at different temperatures and in the range from very raw beans to over-roasted ones. A highly efficient High Performance Liquid Chromatography in connection with Mass Spectrometry has been used to detect the most significant phenolic compounds.
The role of modern technologies and the Internet in preschool children: The risks of their use from a perspective of their parents
Rokosová, Kateřina ; Vacek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Šťastná, Lenka (referee)
Background: The number of preschool children using modern technologies and the Internet is growing rapidly, but the consequences of this behaviour on individual development are unknown. Aim: The aim of this research is to map the issue of the use of modern technologies and the Internet by preschool children and to focus on problematic, addictive behaviour and risks related to these technologies based on the statements of the children's parents. Methods: The data were collected through qualitative research using a semi- structured interview with the parents. In total, 8 interviews were conducted, rewritten into text and further modified using coding and categorization methods. Results: One of the main findings of the study is that watching TV and YouTube videos dominates preschool children's media use. More than half of preschool children own a tablet. Problematic or addictive behaviour is more commonly caused by using tablets or mobile devices other than different technologies. Parents underestimate risks of the use of modern technologies and the Internet. They set rules based only on their own beliefs and the rules are often inadequate and lead to children's undesirable behaviour. Conclusion and recommendation: It is necessary to continue the research in the field of use of modern technologies...
Káva jako funkční potravina
Rokosová, Kateřina
The bachelor's thesis "Coffee as Functional Food" deals with characteristics of coffee as the most consumed drink in the world. It describes the technological process of coffee beans from the harvest to the final product. The next part of the thesis explains the chemical structure of the beans and the biologically active substances that are found in coffee, such as chlorogenic acid, flavonoids, caffeic acid, ferulic acid, trigonelline and most importantly caffeine. Due to its antioxidant properties and other substances beneficial for our bodies, we classify these compounds into those that have positive effect on the human organism. In the last part, I follow up on the influence of these substances on serious diseases that they could protect humans from. Thanks to many biologically active substances, coffee could belong to a potential candidate for the status of functional food.
