Development of Physiotherapy Students' Attitude towards Back Pain
Bláhová, Zuzana ; Kavka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Obešlo, Marek (referee)
Background: There is evidence that the beliefs and attitudes of physiotherapists are associated with their choice of patient management. The fundamentals of these beliefs are thought to have been realized during their university studies. Until now, however, no official study has researched how university education influences the beliefs of physiotherapists and how this is associated with their development in the Czech Republic Objectives: To describe the development of the physiotherapy students' beliefs and attitudes towards low back pain and their understanding of pain knowledge in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, to investigate whether or not there is any correlation between these topics. Participants: First-year physiotherapy students, Third-year physiotherapy students, Fifth (the second magister year) year physiotherapy students, and non-healthcare students within the age range of 22 to 26 (control group) Methods: 1) completion of translated and cross-cultural adapted The Back-Pain Attitudes Questionnaire (Back-PAQ), 2) completion of translated and cross-cultural adapted The Neurophysiology of Pain Questionnaire (NPQ) Results: 251 respondents were included. The mean Back-PAQ score was within the controlled group 107 (SD 8.47) and there was a significant decrease in score in the fifth- year...
Health professionals beliefs concerning the non-specific back pain and their influence on following the recommended therapy procedures.
Ryšavá, Markéta ; Kavka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Obešlo, Marek (referee)
Bibliographic record: RYŠAVÁ, Markéta. Health professionals' beliefs concerning the non-specific back pain and their influence on following the recommended therapy procedures. Prague: Charles University, 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Department of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, 2021. 138 p., Appendixes, Supervisor of the work: Mgr. Tomáš Kavka Abstract: Nonspecific back pain (nonspecific LBP) is the most common reason for visiting a doctor and it is the leading cause of activity limitation and inability to work by patients. The theoretical part of this thesis describes the issue of LBP and related clinical guidelines. In addition, it summarizes current research results of the influence of health professionals' fear-avoidance beliefs (FA beliefs) on their clinical decision making for LBP patients. The practical part relates to the research of FA beliefs and non-adherence to clinical guidelines regarding care of individuals experiencing LBP among health professionals in the Czech Republic. The degree of FA beliefs was evaluated using a translated and cross-culturally adapted questionnaire "Fear- Avoidance Beliefs Tool", while the degree of non-adherence was evaluated using a self- reported questionnaire in connection to fictitious clinical vignette. A generalized linear model was used for data processing. The...
Assessing inspiratory muscle strength in runners after 100-m and 3000-m running using POWERbreathe K5
Černá, Alžběta ; Smolíková, Libuše (advisor) ; Obešlo, Marek (referee)
Methodology: This study examined respiratory muscle strength in 25 runners using the POWERbreathe® K5 inspiratory muscle trainer before and after 100-m and 3000-m running. We watched the development of the resting values of SIndex and PIF and these values after the sprint (100 m) and running (3000 m, intensity of 70% of their HRmax). The probands were examined for resting spirometry and chest circuits (at maximum inspiration and expiration) in four levels. According to the respiratory amplitudes in the lower chest sector, the probands were divided into groups A (> 5.0 cm; n = 11) and B (<5.0 cm; n = 14). Results: After the 100-m sprint, the SIndex and PIF values have been increased for all probands. We noticed the difference between group A and B. A: SIndex increased by an average of 6,11%. PIF by 8,39 %, i.e. 0,35 l·s⁻¹. B: SIndex increased by an average of 9,33%. PIF by 11,82 %, i.e. 0,61 l·s⁻¹. After 3000-m running, the values of all probands have changed both in terms of increase (positive numbers) and decrease (negative numbers). The trend showed no regularity and the values ranged in positive and negative values independently of the respiratory amplitudes of the probands. The cause of these changes cannot be determined from the monitored parameters. The mean SIndex and PIF values of group A,...
Rehabilitation in lung transplant candidates
Jordáková, Magdalena ; Babková, Lenka (advisor) ; Obešlo, Marek (referee)
Lung transplantation is the method of treatment for patients with end-stage lung disease. The main theoretical part of this bachelor's thesis is focused on the possibilities of rehabilitation in lung transplant candidates. This rehabilitation concept includes patient's education, individually designed exercise program, techniques of respiratory physiotherapy, nutrition therapy and psychological support. The practical section of this bachelor's thesis incorporates a case report of a lung transplant candidate who underwent 4 months of preoperative rehabilitation program. Tha main difference after completing preoperative rehabilitation was found in maximal inspiratory muscles strength, which increased of 17,71 cmH2O.
Femuroacetabular impingement syndrome - possibilities of therapy and rehabilitation in adolescents and young adults
Tůma, Martin ; Opálková, Michaela (advisor) ; Obešlo, Marek (referee)
Femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAI) is a clinical diagnosis that is characterized as a mechanical conflict between the edge of acetabulum and the pericapital part of femoral neck. It is increasingly accepted as an etiological factor in the development of hip arthritis, occurring in young and sport-active individuals. The thesis is divided into two basic parts. The first is theoretical and introduces the reader on the basic of research study of Czech and foreign literature, first with the syndrome itself, its types, aetiology and possibilities of diagnostics. It also summarizes the current possibilities of therapy and rehabilitation in adolescents and younger adults. The second part is practical and is processed in the form of a case report of a patient undergoing conservative treatment. The work is accompanied by photographic documentation.
Femoroacetabular impingement of players of table tennis
Obešlo, Marek ; Bitnar, Petr (advisor) ; Tolar, Jan (referee)
Introduction: Question of femoroacetabular impingement is very actual. This young concept brings mechanism which leads to early degenerative changes of the hip joint of young and active individuals (athletes). Objectives: To review influence of sport activity on condition of the hip joint of young athletes (players of table tennis) and to determine incidence of femoroacetabular impingement and its clinical significance. Methods: We performed ultrasound and clinical examination and questionnaire with 22 individuals from 2 training groups. Groups vary in age, height, weight, volume of sport activity and how long they do sports. We found out incidence of cam-type impingement and evaluated pain of anterior impingement test, ranges of motions of the hip joint and deep squat. Results: Cam impingement was found in 27 hip joints, 16 in older group, 11 in younger one. In older group there were 12 from 16 impingements painful during anterior impingement test, 4 from 11 in younger one. In older group there were 4 symptomatic individuals, none in younger one. Older group has lower ranges of motion of flexion and internal rotation. 4 individuals did not perform deep squat, all of them with bilateral cam-type impingement. Conclusion: Femoracetabular impingement is frequent among young athletes. It causes...
