Difficulty of blind man in medical institution
Dvořáková, Bohdana ; Kutnohorská, Jana (advisor) ; Machalová, Iva (referee) ; Pečenková, Jaroslava (referee)
The Bachelor thesis deals with the issue of special needs of blind people in medical institutions. It draws attention to the necessity of a greater degree of cooperation of multidisciplinary teams in treating the blind. The thesis deals with various types 85 of architectural barriers that make it practically impossible for the handicapped to orientate themselves and it tries to explain how to eliminate them. It argues that theoretical and practical training of medical staff is necessary in order to avoid cases of blind people being disadvantaged in our mostly sighted society. The basis of the thesis is formed by qualitative research with seven blind respondents. The method of semi-structured interview was used here and the respondents were carefully chosen. The main criterion was the acceptation of the handicap and experience with medical staff in hospitals. An issue was examined, why do these people, who lead normal lives (work, travel on their own in public transport, communicate with authorities, raise children), have problems to visit medical facilities alone, without company.
