Crisis of the Modern Man in works of Egon Hostovsky

The bachelor's thesis focuses on the comparison of proses by Egon Hostovsky with respect to the theme of the crisis of the modern man. It follows a discourse about his works and discusses its various approaches, particularly the psychological one, the existential one, as well as the context of realist and expressionist narrative basis. Furthermore, it shows the development of Hostovsky's poetics and the reception of his later works, the novel The Charity Ball in particular. The thesis is buttressed by findings and concepts established in publications by Vladimír Papoušek, Lubomír Doležel and František Kautman. The results of the comparative analysis point to the internal connections between the narrative representations of guilt and anxiety, particularly in the novel Dům bez pána (The House Without a Master) and in the short story collection Letters from Exil, which enables the idea of a new authenticity of the human subject, symptomatic for which are modernist uncertainty and groundlessness. To these phenomena an axiological searching in Hostovsky's works is also subjugated to. With exception for Seven Times the Leading Man and The Midnight Patient - the politically oriented Hostovsky's novels, in which a quantity of conservative constructs and decadent contemplations is present. Character of Danny Smiřický in selected Škvorecký's novels

The aim of this thesis is to examine the development of a literary character, Danny Smiřický, reoccuring in many of Josef Škvorecký's novels and representing both the role of a storyteller and a protagonist. The work mainly focuses on the way Danny Smiřický's character was constructed, describes his personality, life fates, relations to other characters and in this light, also, to observe changes the Czech society was undergoing throughout the twentieth century. Attention is drawn to the specific language used by Danny and his peers which acts, in a remarkable way, as a means of authenticity. It also largely helps to convey the generational testimony. For the analysis, selected literary texts written by Škvorecký are used, in which Danny appears and which follow in a chronological order. The work specifically analyzes the novel's Cowards, Swell season, and Tank battalion. Danny Smiřický is often considered an autobiographical character, in other words, the alter ego of the author. Apartment building

The project deals with the new construction of a apartment house in Trenčín. The aim of the work was to develop project documentation for the construction. The building has four aboveground and one underground floor and is set in a sloping terrain. The building is designed as brick made of concrete blocks and ceramic blocks – Therm. The roof is flat, single-layered, vegetated. There is a green wall on the west facade.

Joseph Roth: Characteristics of the fictional world

This thesis analyses Roth's novels of the 1930s as a complex fictional macroworld. It is through fictional characters, the category of space and associated motifs and symbols that the decadent and specifically patriarchal semantics of the Habsburg world are examined. The main point of interest is the conflict between traditional and nationalized patriarchy outlined by Stritecky. The paper analyses the manifestations of the gradual disintegration of the basic value pillars of this patriarchal world, against the background of the dynamic tension between the centre and the periphery of the Habsburg monarchy. These pillars are the army, the bureaucracy, religious faith; the authority of the emperor, father and husband. In the first part (the centre), the degradation of these values is analysed in relation to the figures representing the centre of the empire. In the second and third parts (periphery; behind the curtain), the secondary figures of the representatives of the periphery, or women, come to the fore. Through these characters, the non-vital nature of nationalised patriarchalism is exposed. Two dramaturgical lines of Czech play on the small stage of the theater "Divadlo na Vinohradech"

This thesis deals with two dramaturgical lines of Czech play on the small stage of the theater "Divadlo na Vinohradech". It aims to verify whether or not and, if so, how has the text of contemporary drama changed in comparison to the dramatic text of the period from the 1960s to the 1980s. The thesis does so on a sample of eleven plays put on under the current artistic management of the theatre (i.e. since the theatre season 2012/2013). The first part of the thesis focuses on the theoretical characterization of dramas typical for both of these observed periods and on the development of dramaturgy of the theater in relation to Czech drama. The second part of the thesis contains the analyses and the final comparison of dramatic texts. Depiction of the Normalization Period from the Perspective of Child Protagonists

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of the depiction of the normalisation period from the perspective of child protagonists in the works of Czech literature of the 1990s. The thesis is concerned with the novels B. Proudew by Irena Dousková and Bliss was it in Bohemia by Michal Viewegh, and it first analyses them from the point of view of the narrator, the chronotope, the configuration of the characters and the techniques of their characterisation and the narrative audience. The thesis then employs the comparative method to ascertain which narrative techniques involved in constructing the narrative worlds are significant for an idyllic image of the normalisation reality in Czechoslovakia without disparaging the seriousness of the historical period. The result of the thesis is that a vital device for depicting childhood in the normalisation period as idyllic is the orientation towards the everydayness and ordinariness of the main characters and their family environment. Construction of character in selected socio-critical prose

The goal of this paper is to analyze the manner, in which the main characters in the books Tři kapitoly and Přípravy na všechno. Due to the nature of the narration the paper also analyzes the relation between a character and the narrator. The narratological methods, with the help of which I realise the analysis are presented in the theoretical part. A special attention is paid to similarities and differences in the manner of character and narrator construction and their potential use for social criticism.

Theme of Return in the Novels of Milan Kundera

This work analyzes the motifs constructing the theme of return in three novels by Milan Kundera. The main and pivotal part of the work consists of the chapters Joke, Unbearable Lightness of Being and Ignorance. The aim is to use individual motifs to construct the theme of return in a comparison of individual novels. Construction of the theme, the role of narrative components in its construction, interpretation within individual fictional worlds and as a key theme connecting Kunder's fictional worlds. Analysis of Manuscript The Witch of Holesovice by Josef Vachal

This bachelor thesis entitled "Analýza rukopisu Čarodějnice holešovická od Josefa Váchala" focuses on the analysis of the text by Josef Váchal who named it Čarodějnice holešovická aneb Vězeň v holešovickém hradě čili ROMÁN psaný za pomoci svob. zednářů. The thesis tries to present the general features of the manuscript and thus contribute to the spread of information about Josef Vachal's literary work. The manuscript was found in author's estate and now it is stored and available in The Museum of Czech Literature. The thesis mainly focuses on the analysis of the text within a composition, literary type and genre, a theme level, motive, characters and language devices. The thesis tries to pay attention to the fact that it is an unfinished text in a work- in-progress form. The work has never been published yet. Poetics of selected dramas from the Krejča's era of the National Theater

This bachelor's thesis deals with the motif of everyday life, which came to the fore in the second half of the 1950s, not only for ordinary people, but also for writers, poets and playwrights. In particular, it examines the degree of importance of the motif of everyday life in the plays written for the National Theatre during the period when Otomar Krejča and his "dramaturgical workshop" were active there. For the typological analysis, five plays were selected which premieres took place at the Tyl Theatre in 1958-1963, namely František Hrubín's August Sunday and Crystal Night, Josef Topol's Their Day, František Pavlíček's Match with the Angel and Milan Kundera's The Owners of the Keys. The aim of this thesis is to determine whether the motif of everyday life is what defines the poetics of the original plays written for the National Theatre.
