The function of violence in films and its reception by journalists
Haugwitz, Daniel ; Štoll, Martin (advisor) ; Křemen, Pavel (referee)
Violence can be handled in a variety of ways across a wide variety of film genres and specific grasps of genres. The goal of this thesis is to explore the different functions of violence in films and then show how different is the acceptance of violence by Western film critics, ie journalists, in the same genre with similar motivations of the main characters, but with a slightly different approach of these characters to the use of violence. In the theoretical part I will describe the terms of review, criticism, film and at the same time the function of violence in films across genres. The practical part will then show how the concept of violence and its function may differ even within one larger genre, although the motivations of the main characters may sometimes be similar. Certain parallels as well as differences in the use and function of violence will be discussed on the example of selected scenes from two action film series Ip Man and Rambo. Subsequently, the reactions to the manifestations of violence by film critics will be analyzed and in the end it will be assessed whether the critics reacted to the processing of violence at all, how they reacted to it and what generally follows from the critics' approach to various possibilities on depicting violence. The partial goal of the thesis will...

Votlučková, Kristýna ; Křemen, Pavel (advisor) ; Lebedová, Veronika (referee)
The bachelor's thesis Comparison of the original sound and Czech dubbing in the TV series Friends deals with the analysis of differences in the original sound and in the dubbing of the American TV series Friends. The Friends series is an American sitcom that aired on NBC from September 22, 1994 to May 6, 2004. The series focuses on the lives of six friends between the ages of 20 and 30 who live in Manhattan, New York City. During the ten years of broadcasting, the show received many awards and became one of the most popular television shows in history. The series has thus become a phenomenon that still affects and entertains viewers around the world. In the Czech Republic, a dubbed version of the TV show began broadcasting on Ceska televize in 1996. The Czech dubbing of the series was directed by Ales Sobotka, led by the creative group of Alena Polednakova and Vladimir Tisnovsky. There are many arguments for and against dubbing or subtitling TV shows. What determines dubbing or subtitling, as the main method of television translation in a country, is influenced by a complex number of factors, such as price, availability of relevant technology, literacy level etc. The overall meaning and context may therefore be quite different from the original version if the translation is dubbed or subtitled. In...

It relates to technologies, provides access and the response of the audience towards media content and thus enables closer link between the media producers, media content and their audience. Globalization, as one of the products of spatial convergence, entered the media industry through the digitalization. Glocalization represents one of the trends associated with globalization and it is described as a situation where a global media producer, distributing its consent world wide, spend resources to create a local production. This thesis is focused on one such example, HBO company, originally an American premium cable and satellite television network, with a business model of monthly subscription. HBO distributes its consent via its subsidiaries based in South America, Europe and Asia. These local markets create their own content. The same statement is valid for Czech Republic. I have done the profitability analysis of the local consent production of HBO, Czech Republic according to their internal data. Analyzed data describe the changes in the amount of...

Respondents also watched episodes of three series of Czech internet TVs, which they then subjectively evaluated. Based on their testimonies, it was found that posting all the episodes of one season of any series at once could contribute to its overall viewership (due to binge- watching). Furthermore, based on in-depth interviews, a specific use of the new form of product placement in series for women is suggested, as women are minimally represented in the...
