The carnival in Roztoky and its symbolic meaning in the lives of its participants

This thesis examines the Masopust cultural event in Roztoky u Prahy. The author explores how this event is perceived by its participants, and primarily tries to answer the question concerning what symbolic meaning can visiting this event represent in their lives and whether they perceive this event as an important milestone they would not want to miss each year. Furthermore, the author explores these topics: do the participants actively take part in this event, how do they prepare for this event and whether it is important for them to wear a mask and why. The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part examines the history of the carnival, both in the historical Czech lands, and in Roztoky. The practical part presents the results of the author's field research, conducted in the years 2022 and 2023. Prague underworld and its image in the mass culture between the world wars

Pražská galerka a její obraz v masové kultuře mezi světovými válkami Anna Jagošová Abstract This diploma thesis deals with the issue of the phenomenon of the so-called Prague galerka. This thesis tries to answer the questions of how the Prague galerka was perceived by the public at that time, how this group perceived itself and who belonged to it. This issue is examined through the mass media - film, periodicals, through the prism of police commissioners and their memories, and if possible due to the materials obtained, also through the prism of individual members of the Prague galerka. In the theoretical part, it is defined what the Prague galerka is, what are its significant features and who is part of it. The practical part mainly works with film, periodicals and commemorative monographs as sources and documents of the time. The location being monitored is Prague, and the topic of the work is defined primarily by the period between the world wars. Contemporary children's folklore

Anna Jagošová, Současný dětský folklor Abstract The diploma thesis deals with the current form of children's verbal folklore. It focuses specifically on children's games, , taunts and marginally rhymes and songs with a steady and mostly rhyme structure. The aim of this thesis is to compare the expression of current children's verbal folklore with the expression of traditional children's verbal folklore. Describe their characteristics and compare with the already proposed categorization (Jelínková, 1952, Tucker, 2008), or eventually propose own categorization, and primarily to analyze the expression of children's verbal folklore in terms of the Czech language. Attention will be also paid to the context of children's folklore expressions in the school environment, whether as part of teaching or a leisure activity. The diploma thesis aims to follow current (and traditional) children's folklore interdisciplinary insert of Czech studies and ethnology. Due to ongoing exceptional situation related to Covid - 19 pandemic which limits the possibilities of field research, the main starting material is the already existing collections of children's folklore, especially sources published in books (eg. The Slovacko Verbunk Interpreted by the Children Dancers

Anna Jagošová, Slovácký verbuňk v interpretaci dětských tanečníků Abstract The presented thesis deals with the phenomenon of the male solo dance otherwise known as "The Slovacko Verbunk" and its contemporary interpretations performed by child dancers. This phenomenon is a modern element of folklorism and can be observed Moravian Slovakia region in the past two decades. The main theme of the research and subsequent analysis is the form and performance of "Verbunk" by child dancers. Marginal attention is also paid to their own opinions and attitudes towards "Verbunk" as it is traditionally performed by adult male dancers. Moreover, the thesis deals with "Národní přehlídka dětských verbířů," roughly translated as "The National Exhibition of the Child Verbunk Dancer." This exhibition is organized in cooperation within The International Child Folklore Festival called "Kunovské léto" (The Summer of Kunovice) which has undoubtedly influenced the phenomenon of children reinterpreting "Verbunk" dance the most. The Slovacko Verbunk Between Folklore and Folklorism

The thesis is focused on a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon of the Slovácko verbuňk, a folk solo dance performed by men, originally recruits. The thesis aims at mapping both the current and historical forms of the Slovácko verbuňk, including a description of its original forms and functions. The thesis's main topic is the current form of the dance and its functions presented within the modern-day phenomenon of the Best Slovácko verbuňk dancer contest held as part of the Strážnice International Folklore Festival. Emphasis is put on the historical development of the competition from the beginning to these days, including its partial aspects, such as regional rounds or preparations of the contestants. The thesis relies on written and audio-visual sources and mainly interviews with the involved people - Slovácko verbuňk dancers and members of the contest jury. Attention is also paid to the inscription of the Slovácko verbuňk on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The thesis intends to describe the phenomenon of the Slovácko verbuňk in both the original form of the dance and in the form presented during the contest, largely different from the original.
