Advanced Techniques Demo Using OpenGL
Buček, Antonín ; Přibyl, Jaroslav (referee) ; Herout, Adam (advisor)
This thesis demonstrates advanced techniques using OpenGL. The work is conceived as a demo without any size restrictions. It focuses on creating 3D world, which consists of inner rooms complex. Some additional interesting objects, lighting and shadows enrich the rooms. Particle systems, which were used to create explosions, smokes and some other particle effects are described in the thesis, too. 3D machine models fight between themselves using laser beams and form the story of the demo. Important part of the work is a movement model which is applied to both models and avatar. Sound track completes the demo.

Study of evolution of insect pheromone biosynthetic fatty acyl desaturases
Buček, Aleš
Insects account for more than one million of described species with an ecological and economic impact disproportional to their minute body size. Among the factors which have contributed to their evolutionary success, insect secondary metabolites such as defensive compounds and chemical signals are regarded to play a major role. This thesis aims at uncovering the molecular mechanisms underlying evolution of ubiquitous insect secondary metabolites - sex pheromones (SPs), i.e. chemical signals mediating mate finding and mating between individuals of the same species. The thesis focuses on a class of oxidoreductase enzymes, membrane fatty acid desaturases (mFADs), which introduce double bonds into hydrocarbon chains of fatty acyls and thus produce precursors of unsaturated fatty acid- derived SPs. mFADs are involved in SP biosynthesis in e.g. moths (Lepidoptera), flies (Diptera), cockroaches and termites (Blattodea), wasps and bees (Hymenoptera) - some of the most species-rich insect orders. Since SPs are principal to species reproductive isolation, uncovering the molecular basis of insect SP biosynthesis holds promises to contribute to answering fundamental questions concerning the insect ecology and evolution. The insect mFADs with diverse enzymatic specificities also represent a naturally available...
The optimization of forest management strategies on slopes affected by landslides and rock falling – a methodology for forest-planting practices

Landslides, as well as rock falling, are among natural disturbances, the origin of which the forest management has only a secondary influence. On the other hand, adequate management can reduce the risk of landslides (rock falling). In some specific cases, it can be expected that this management can also prevent origin of landslides. The basic recommendation in the area of forest cultivation in areas affected by landslides is the creation of forest stands of species, age and thickness (height) differentiated, with a small-scale texture. In some cases it is also possible to recommend the shape of the associated forest. Consistent management of the forest transport network must be an integral part of measures in risk areas.
