The puppet theater building in the center of Opava
Křížková, Marie ; Štěpán, Marek (referee) ; Galeová, Nicol (advisor)
How will the new theatre building affect the city centre? The proposal explores one option where the existing puppet theatre could be relocated. The aim of the project was to find a proportionate scale of building that would provide a dignified space for the puppet theatre to operate, whilst also offering space around it. A space that, while closely intertwined with the theatre, also opens up to people who are not currently playing the social role of theatre-goers.

Technological progress is transforming perhaps all aspects of human activity, not least the way we build. Criticism and reflection is therefore necessary. Optimisation of the unnecessary use of technology and simultaneous use of vernacular principles is one way to reduce the environmental impact. I am designing an apartment building near Zlin, which is based on the context of the place. In the area of the Malenovice sawmill, quality housing in the greenery is being created. The design of the apartment building integrates results of the contemplation of the material, making the most of natural ventilation and solar heat gains. Corner greenhouses are a specific element of the design, combining the benefits of a double facade and greenhouse effect, as well as centrally located ventilation chimneys. These elements contribute to improving the quality of space and have their thermodynamic justification. My goal was to design quality housing using truthfully admitted materials. Timberwork in the Czech Republic is still scarce. This project explores, among other things, the possibilities and limits of timber construction in the design of an apartment building.

The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to design a housing complex that meets ecological and passive standards and uses smart and intuitive ways to design a building without excessive use of technology during construction. The work thus reflects the current problems of society such as climate change, the housing crisis and other problems of a global scale. My primary effort was to imply knowledge about ecological and passive buildings to my design and to build responsibly and with respect for the future. The housing complex is therefore designed from ecological materials, the construction system consists of CLT panels, which are an advantageous material for the construction of apartment buildings due to simple assembly, prefabrication and the possibility of functional variability. My intention was to create pleasant and comfortable housing that provides its inhabitants with contact with nature not only through the surrounding landscape, but also through the very materiality of the building.

In my project, I am addressing the task of transforming the site of the current Malenovická sawmill into a new housing development. Tomáš Batas’ street, which is the defining interfering element of the location, will be visually and acoustically shielded by an administrative building with a commercial ground floor and an eight-story polyclinic building on the corner. Providing a natural dominant cover for the new urban structure, we will find the quiet residential zone in the periphery containing the apartment buildings. A key element of my project is the semi-enclosed atrium, which provides a thermoregulation zone based on the chimney and greenhouse effect.

The Malenovická sawmill, located on the busiest traffic artery in Zlín, is losing its function due to the harvesting of forests in the vicinity of the city. Right behind this place begins a street that is particularly important for Zlín – Tomáš Baťa Avenue. It is an essential urbanistic, compositional, visual, and orientational element of the city of Zlín. A walk through it is a journey through the construction history of this city. However, the character of this thoroughfare in this area is alien to the point of being unpleasant for pedestrians. At a time when Zlín suffers from a lack of housing, I think that densifying the city right on its most important artery can be an interesting and correct way to fill the empty space and give Tomáš Baťa Avenue a respectable start. I believe that living on the main street of the city can be very attractive for many and that it will help to give this space a human scale, life and refinement at the same time. The goal of my work thus becomes the densification of the city on the border between the city of Zlín and the outskirts of Malenovice, on the border between a busy class and a quiet cluster of family houses. This interface becomes the starting point for my design.
The puppet theater building in the center of Opava

The building of the theater is not currently a stable structure; it changes based on current demands. From the beginning, I have worked with the idea of a new space for today's theater scene, not only for the specifics of puppet theater. The intention of the design is to create a space for theater professionals according to their needs, while not neglecting the aesthetics of visual and architectural requirements beyond the lapidary construction. Verticality allows for an efficient workflow. The mass of the theater building stemmed from the design of the performance space.

The building of the puppet theatre in the centre of Opava is significant for its location and function. One of my goals was therefore to create a building with a distinctive character that will serve as a symbol of the entranceway to the city centre. As it encroaches on the land on which the Silesian Theatre building stands, my aim was to help this theatre in its design and to improve the condition of its not entirely satisfactory operating space. Outside the performance space, the theatre events create an opportunity for discussion, for sharing ideas that have no place in the normal daily routine. The project appeals to promote the aspect of perceiving the theatre as a modern agora.

The aim of the thesis is to design a residential building that will stand the test of time not only by maintaining its form and function but also by creating a landmark on the line between Otrokovice and Zlín. The main theme of the design is therefore the longevity of the building. The proposed house is located on the outskirts of Zlín - Malenovice on a plot where a sawmill currently operates. The longevity of the building is achieved in three different dimensions - technical lifespan, economic lifespan, and in terms of lifestyle, fashion, and social situation. Key elements include a conservative building form and brick facades.

The subject of the bachelor thesis is the design of a residential building in the locality of Zlín - Malenovice on the site of Malenovická pila. The project includes an urban study of the entire area. The location of Malenovická pila is situated between a busy traffic artery and the development of solitary family houses. The urban design responds to both the strong and weak aspects of this location. The design of the residential building is primarily based on the principle of cross-ventilation, following the FCK technology. Significant emphasis was also placed on working with greenery and considering the proximity to the surrounding residential buildings. The result of the design is a set of four residential buildings with a total of 60 apartments.

In this thesis, I focused on the design of a residential house with a reflection on today's way of construction and the (mis)use of technology. The mass of the building is based on the technology used in the concept and thus dictates the overall architectural expression. The concept is based on the physical thermo-accumulation properties of the material and its conservation while combining it with the concept of the chimney effect of building ventilation. The flats are designed with regard to the variability of their use and the connection with the exterior spaces. The urban design of the vacant plot is part of the design, the concept of which is the location of the buildings in relation to the main road and the existing development. The proposed concept takes into account the increase in the density of residential units in the city, while respecting factors such as the size of housing, glare, energy efficiency, car limitation and diversification of functions. A linear public park is located in the southern portion of the site, providing a transition between the new and original buildings and connecting to the existing park to the east of the parcel, providing a continuous recreational network. The aim was to create not only a pleasant living space but also a space for a vibrant community forming what is most important to the atmosphere of the place.
