USB-microscope and its possibilities for chemistry and geology education
Kopecký, Ondřej ; Šmejkal, Petr (advisor) ; Teplý, Pavel (referee)
Microscopes are a common tool in science education, used to demonstrate phenomena that are not visible to the naked eye. They are most commonly encountered in the teaching of biology, but could also be used in the teaching of other science subjects, such as geology or chemistry. In addition to microscopes, binoculars can also be used in teaching. One such alternative for binoculars is the USB-microscope, which has been expanding in recent years beyond its primary use in electrical engineering. It appears that the USB-microscope could be a suitable teaching tool. However, its wider use is inhibited by inexperience of teachers and students, as well as by the lack of teaching and materials that could effectively utilise the USB-microscope. Consequently, the objective of this study was to select and optimise experiments that are suitable for education and, at the same time, can utilise the USB-microscope to advantage in their presentation. Additionally, the objective was to create worksheets and supplementary materials for educators to facilitate the selected experiments. To achieve this, ten experiments were selected and optimized for both teaching and laboratory work with the USB-microscope. The appropriate supplementary materials, including worksheets, were then developed for these experiments. The...
Employment of the school chromatograph GC-mini for the determination of methanol and ethanol in school practice
Gálová, Karolína ; Šmejkal, Petr (advisor) ; Stratilová Urválková, Eva (referee)
Bakalářská práce Autor: Karolína Gálová Využití školního chromatografu GC-mini pro stanovení methanolu vedle ethanolu ve školní praxi Abstrakt - anglický jazyk The main topic of this work is to investigate the possibilities of using the school gas chromatograph GC-mini in teaching at secondary schools within the topic of chromatographic analysis. Despite the expansion of the method, the teaching of gas chromatography remains rather rare. Specifically, the work focuses on the optimization and determination of methanol alongside ethanol, which is a practically relevant topic for understanding the analysis of alcoholic beverages and methanol-containing samples, and a potentially motivating topic for teaching. The thesis covers the design of experiments, methodologies, and practical aspects of using the GC-mini chromatograph. Additionally, it includes a survey of school educational programs to determine the occurrence of chromatography and gas chromatography in secondary school curricula. As part of this work, laboratory experiments aimed at determining the content of methanol and ethanol in various samples were conducted. The results of these experiments provide information on the efficiency and reliability of the GC-mini school chromatograph for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of these substances....
Administrative building
Smejkal, Petr ; Spáčilová, Jitka (referee) ; Sedláková, Markéta (advisor)
The subject of the diploma thesis is the elaboration of the project documentation of an administrative building in the south-eastern part of Brno. The building has seven above-ground floors, of which five above-ground floors will be used as office space, one above-ground floor will be used for commercial use and gastronomy. On the last floor, there will be an elevator lift range and a technical background for air conditioning. The support system is designed as a reinforced concrete skeleton based on a reinforced concrete slab and pilots. The façade is designed as lightly ventilated with facing bricks. For this object, a single-shell roof area is selected.
Mechanical maintenance of rotating electrical machines
Smejkal, Pavel ; Synek, Miloš (referee) ; Pavlík, Josef (advisor)
This thesis deals with the mechanical maintenance of rotating electrical machines. It outlines the basic division of maintenance and its effects on the function and cost efficiency due to the type of maintenance. Main emphasis is placed on individual maintenance steps, which is done on the rotating electrical machines and then to determine their importance in relation to the causes of failures.
Comparison of a gas insulated switchgear draft in 2D and 3D interface in the offer phase
Turkovič, Matúš ; Šmejkal, Petr (referee) ; Dvořák, Milan (advisor)
This thesis deals with the design of gas insulated switchgear produced in company ABB s.r.o. Theoretically describes the basics of project engineering in the 2D and 3D environments as well as the construction, partition and properties of the switchgear substations. In thesis is included practical designs and comparison of a gas insulated switchgear draft in 2D and 3D interface in the offer phase.
HRSG with two pressure levels,137,4kg/s, 569°C
Šmejkal, Petr ; Kohout, Přemysl (referee) ; Skála, Zdeněk (advisor)
This thesis deals with thermal calculation and design of proportions and layout of calorific components of a heat recovery steam generator according to given output parameters of steam and input parameters of flue gas. Furthermore, the proportions of boiler drums and irrigation and transfer pipes are designed and draught losses are calculated.
Family house
Smejkal, Petr ; Dohnal, Jakub (referee) ; Sedláková, Markéta (advisor)
The subject of bachelor´s thesis is creation of project documentation of construction of family house. The family house is a two-storey building with partly basement. The object is founded on foundation strips, load-bearing structures are mainly designed from system Porotherm, completed with reinforced concrete ceilings and timber structure of roof. The object is situated on parcels n. 3800/76 in multicipality of Velké Meziříčí, cadastral area Velké Meziříčí, region Vysočina.
Solid fuels boilers
Šmejkal, Petr ; Štelcl, Otakar (referee) ; Baláš, Marek (advisor)
This bachelor’s thesis deals with burning solid fuels in boilers used for house heating. In the first chapter, the individual kinds of solid fuels are described in light of their composition, properties, means of their energetical application and ways of adjusting them to a form proper for combustion. In the second chapter, the individual types of solid fuels boilers are described. The last chapter deals with comparision of several specific boilers in light of their purchase price and operating expenses.
Applications for Wearable Devices based on Android Wear OS
Šmejkal, Petr ; Zeman, Kryštof (referee) ; Hošek, Jiří (advisor)
The semestral project "Application for Android Wear wearables” describes basic principles of the communication network - M2M (machine to machine), H2H (human to human) and D2D (device to device). It is also focused on wearables especially smart watches, available operation systems for smart watches and system Android, Android Wear. In the practical part is described functionality, design and structure of developed application for Android wear smartwatch.
Eye-tracking as a method for monitoring students' strategies when working with the periodic table of elements
Kopecký, Adam ; Šmejkal, Petr (advisor) ; Míka, Luděk (referee)
Teaching methods try to improve every year, and modern technologies help this progress. One of these technologies is the eye-tracking method. This method allows capturing certain procedures of the respondents from their eye movements. We can subsequently derive certain specific strategies from the procedures, and subsequently adapt the teaching materials to themThe thesis focuses on the detection of different strategies of pupils when working with the periodic table with the help of an eye-tracking device. The work uses a pre-prepared test in which the students determined the specific location of specific elements in a table with displayed element symbols and proton numbers and subsequently the location of other specific elements in a blind periodic table. Subsequently, the strategy of pupils with higher self-confidence was examined and compared with the strategy of pupils with lower self-confidence. Success in finding individual elements in the test was also compared. A typical strategy, which was observed in most respondents, is to determine the location where the element is most likely to be located and then search in a sufficient area for signs that could belong to the searched element. This fact does not apply only in the case of the search for the element antimony, which the respondents could...
