Czech photographie theory in the period 1940-1960
Bedrnová, Jitka ; Lábová, Alena (advisor) ; Chuchma, Josef (referee)
Collecting all the documents on Czechoslovak photographic theory in the period 19401969 published in the Czechoslovak periodical press and the treatises proved through descriptive analysis that the first-rate photography theory did exist in Czechoslovakia of that time. It was in spite of the former political regime efforts to assign the photography tendency by means of the so called Marxist-Lcninist theory and the fact that it was almost impossible to gain information on foreign up-to-date trend. Especially in the early fifties of the 20th century the dcvelopement of the Czechoslovak photography and its theory stagnated because of the dogmatic principles of the regime 's favored theorists. Yet in the late fifties the authors proficiently dealing with certain large photography issues were allowed to publish as well and thus crucially affected other theorists. both professional and amateur photographers and the lay public and their view of the Czechoslovak photography and under the given conditions the world photography and facilitated the Czechoslovak photography theory developement as well as the photography practice devclopcment. It was especially the editors and contributors of the Ceskoslovenska fotografie and Revue Fotografie who did their best to transmit information from abroad to the public and from...
David LaChapelle as one of the most expressive representatives of contemporary advertising and Fashion photography
Vysloužil, Jakub ; Lábová, Alena (advisor) ; Vojtěchovská, Martina (referee)
Thi s bachelor thesis is about photography and its role in marketing communications. To demonstrate how it works I decided to analyze the advertising and fashion work of one of the most interesting and appreciated contemporary photographers. David LaChapelle's images also convey lot of messages, which could be easily marked as myths of today's western civilisation. My intent also was to describe the stunning history of photography's development and how advertising industry adopted photography as a very powerful instrument to form consumer's opinions and behavior. Some individualities and regimes used the power of images to motivate the people against the enemy or to maintain their own position. In the second half of the twentieth century photography became a standard in adve rtising, which meant that every ad was supposed to be somehow interesting to be effec tive. This was the time when advertising agencies started to concentrate their creative effort on how to communicate with relevant target groups by photography, which is able to convey a lot of information about a product and some emotional message in a very short time. David LaChapelle knows how to do this and keep his artist integrity at the same time. We can find almost every tool, that is advertising photography u ing nowadays in his photos, yet...
VII Photo agency
Horký, Petr ; Lábová, Alena (advisor) ; Chuchma, Josef (referee)
This Bachelor's thesis explores the origin and structure of an independent photo agency VII. It derives its name from the number of photojournalists, who founded the agency in September 2001. The VII photo agency is collectively owned by its members, world renowned photojournalists. Alexandra Boulat, Ron Haviv, Gary Knight, Antonin Krutochvil , Christopher Morris, James Nachtwey and John Stanmeyer were joined in 2002 by Lauren Greenfield and in 2004 by Joachim Ladefoged. Eugene Richards joined in April 2006. Together they document conflict in the broadest sense of the word: political, social and cultural, both violent and non-violent. The idea of the VII photo agency is based on a tradition of other independent picture agencies such as Magnum Photos, whose members work on long-term "picture stories" instead of covering "spot news", as wire services do. This tradition of so-called "picture story", "photo essay" or "photographic reportage" was founded in Germany between the world wars and was then brought to the USA, where it was further developed within the Life magazine. As the market has been dramatically changing with the expansion of the Internet in the last decade, big stock agencies such as Corbis and Getty Images have been buying out all available archives. This quantity allowed them to lower the...
