POKORNÁ, L. Prevalence of smoking among high school and university students. Hradec Králové 2010. Diploma thesis. Charles University in Prague. Faculty of Pharmacy. Department of Biological and Medical Sciences. Thesis advisor: RNDr. H. Klusoňová. Ph. D. Keywords: smoking, nicotine, prevalence, addiction, treatment According to World Health Organization more than 5 million people die every year due to the consequences of smoking. It is estimated that the tobacco epidemic will have as many as 1 billion victims in the 21st century. The aim of the thesis is to chart the prevalence of smoking among high school and university students and to determine the level of addiction among smoking students and the age of their first smoking experience. The research examination was made by using a questionnaire. The results prove the fact that the prevalence of smoking among young people is growing. The risk age of the beginning of the addiction is at the age between 14 and 15. Despite the fact that most respondents are convinced that their chance to get rid of the nicotine addiction is big, only a few of them stopped smoking. The finding that the respondents that stopped smoking and then relapsed did not seek medical advice is alarming as well. Nicotine addiction has a demonstrably negative effects on human...

My thesis concerns the problems with the natural opium abuse in the population of problematic users within the area of Ostrava. The results were gained with questionnaires filled out by clients of Contact Center (CC) Renarkon in Ostrava and by clients who exploit the fieldwork programmes of CC Renarkon in area of Ostrava and Nový Jičín. It was collected forty-eight results of clients. On the basis of these results, I found out that the opium was used by people at the age of 19-38 years, more than half of them were men (85,4 per cent), the rest was women (14,6 per cent ). Almost a half of respondents (45,8 per cent) lived with parents. One third of clients have reached basic education, 35,4 per cent clients have technical education without the school-leaving exam. Almost 35,0 per cent of clients were unemployed. More than half of all the clients (54,2 per cent) were examined for hepatitis with negative results. The half of all clients (54,2 per cent) were tested for HIV with negative results in all the cases. The number of the clients who had been treated for addiction before was 12,5 per cent, now it was only one client. The first illegal drug taken by 91,7 per cent of all the clients was THC and they took it when their average age was approximately 13,8 years. That drug was regarded by 43,8 per...
Metabolic Profile of Panax ginseng Bioactive Substance in Plant Material of Varies Origin.
Bacílková, Anna ; Havlík, Jaroslav (referee) ; Klusoňová, Hana (advisor)
Author: Anna Bacílková Title: Metabolic profiles of bioactive components of Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer from different herbal sources Diploma thesis Publishing place: Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové The field of study - pharmacy In this diploma thesis, I was concerned with the determination and quantification of 12 ginsenosides in 11 commercial ginseng preparations from the species Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer available in the Czech Republic. Ginsenosides are triterpenes saponins considered to be main bioactive principles of ginseng. The two-dimensional thin layer chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography with UV detection was used for the identification and quantitative determination of these compounds. The methods applied are based on comparison of the retention times and retention factors of samples and a mixture of standards. The content of ginsenoside Rf was used as a marker to differentiate Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer from other species. Ginsenosides were detected only in 8 from 11 preparations. There was also significant product-to-product variability in concentrations and proportions of ginsenosides. The content of ginsenosides was also compared with available data from manufacturer and the measured concentrations of marker compounds differed...
Nutrigenetic and nutrigenomic aspects at selected pathological states
Krupková, Lucie ; Klusoňová, Hana (referee) ; Hronek, Miloslav (advisor)
DIPLOMA THESIS Nutrigenetic and nutrigenomic aspects at selected pathological states. Mentor of Diploma Thesis: PharmDr. Miloslav Hronek, Ph.D. Lucie Krupková, 2010 Abstract The effect of nutrition to human health is undisputable. Certain dietary compounds can influence each of us in different ways. Although people have almost identical genome, there are imperceptible diffenrences that make us unique. This uniqueness is shown in different responses to specific nutrients. The matter of diet, genes and gen-diet interactions are solved by two developing scientific disciplines - nutrigenomics and nutrigenetics. Nutrigenomics aims to determine the influence of common dietary ingredients on the genome, and attempts to relate the resulting different phenotypes to differences in the cellular and genetic response of the biological system. Nutrigenetics identifies and characterizes gene variants associated with differential responses to nutrients, and relates these variants to disease states. Scientific research is focused primarily on chronic diseases including obesity, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus type 2 and cancer. The onset of the diseases is caused by enviromental factors on the one hand, and by individual's genotype on the other hand. Nutrigenetics searches for candidates' genes whose...
