The development of the Jewish community in Kolín in the 18th century. The population, crafts, administration in comparison

The comparison of two biggest jewish communities in the Czech country, Kolín and Libeň, show us in virtue of performed research the different making of them. On the one hand its population grew in the same way up. Many of the inhabitants come from other cities, mainly from Nový Bydžov and Praha, also some from Poland or Germany. On the other hand show the differents in crafts, taxes collection and administration. In Kolín were more tradesmen and merchants, in Libeň dominated the manufacturing of clothes. The real jewish ribbon manufacture in Libeň was established at the end of eighties of 18th century. Surprising is result of research the taxes. The Jews from Kolin, although they had less incomes, had to collect twice more contribution tax than the Jews from Libeň. The contribution tax rises about one third during the 18th century. The administration of Jews in Kolín was privileged due to direct management of Czech chamber. But the the economic situation was different, the Jews from Libeň were for Praha more important. Ottoman state and society as reflected in rabbinic literature of the 16th-18th centuries

History of Ottoman Jewry is far from being neglected by the modern historiography. On the contrary, one may see unceasing endeavour to deal properly with various aspects of Jewish life amidst the Ottoman society. Nevertheless, these studies vary considerably in the sense of chronology, space and approaches. While some of them focus on certain period and/or region, others wish to present a reader comprehesive synthesis. The aim of my thesis is to grasp mental world of Jewish subjects and to find out how and to what extent these subjects joined day-to-day life in the Ottoman society. For this purpose, Jews are seen as integral element of higly heterogeneous Ottoman society. The thesis is inspired by studies of Yaron Ben-Naeh, who represents the youngest generation of Israeli historians, and whose subject of research is mainly social and cultural history of Jews in the Ottoman empire from 15th to 19th century. In order to make the tensions between society and individual more "legible", we decided to employ the so-called theory of figurations, borrowed from famous sociolog Norbert Elias. The relationship between society (structure) and individual (actor) in historical process is better understood when presented in form of fluid figurations of interdependent people.

Formation of the Israeli political elites, 1919-1949

The submitted dissertation seeks to analyze the political process associated with the origins of the lsraeli polity during the British Mandate over Palestine. Particular attention is given to the political turmoil within two rival blocks: the Zionist Labor movement and the Revisionist movement. The structure of the dissertation reflects the fact that Haim Weizmann, the longserving president of the Zionist Organization, and his then dominant General Zionists were sidelined at the turn of 1920s and 1930s by the two activist trends of Zionist politics that came to dominate Israeli society from that time forward. České glosy v středověkých hebrejských spisech se doposud nesetkaly s patřičným zájmem české ani zahraniční bohemistiky; ten se zatím omezoval na všeobecné zmínky a pobídky k výzkumu. Na opomíjení tohoto bohatého lingvoliterárního materiálu poukazovala a poukazuje zejména česká hebraistika. Je zřejmé, že bohemistika se musí zabývat i texty psanými v jiných jazycích, než je čeština či slovanské jazyky: dnes již snad nikdo nepochybuje o zařazení latinských textů české provenience do dějin naší literatury, postupně přijímány jsou i texty psané německy mluvícími autory, hlásícími se k českému území a kultuře. Písemnictví česko-hebrejské, tedy texty psané hebrejským jazykem českými Židy, stojí doposud v pozadí. Hebrejské středověké spisy jsou nejen významnými literárními památkami z doby, z níž se do současnosti nedochovalo mnoho textů; jsou zároveň i nedoceněným pramenem poznání života tehdejších obyvatel Českého království, a to jak židovských, tak i nežidovských. Obzvlášť pozoruhodným aspektem těchto spisů je právě přítomnost českých, resp. jinojazyčných glos. Problémem byla a nadále zůstává jazyková bariéra: středověké hebrejské spisy především z oblasti rabínské literatury se sice ve světě od 19. století znovu vydávají, nikdo je však nepřekládá. 1.2 V předkládané práci se pokusím shrnout doposud publikované...

The Jewish community in Kolín. The Jewish people in accounting sources (the 16th- 18th centuries)

Předkládaná bakalářská práce se zabývá rozborem pramenů, které dokumentují vývoj židovské obce v Kolíně. Je všeobecně známo, že zdejší židovská obec patřila svého času k těm největším v českých zemích. Došlo k tomu po vyhnání Židů 1 z Plzně roku 1504, kdy se stala druhou nejlidnatější po Praze. Protože archivních dokumentů o židovském Kolíně je zachováno velké množství v různých fondech, zvolila jsem užší časový úsek, vymezený souhrnnými soupisovými dokumenty. Práce je doplněna o historii kolínských Židů od počátků, doloženou nejen v městských knihách.

Likutej amarim a chasidská spiritualita Likutei Amarim and Hasidic Spirituality Mgr. Markéta Holubová The aim of my thesis has been to offer to a Czech reader a translation of the fundamental parts of the work, which represents one of the peaks in Hasidic literature (and was unavailable in Czech language up to this time) and to point out profundity and imaginativeness in Zalman' s work. I have tried to make the commentary a comprehensive guide to the enclosed text, taking into account religion-historic background in order to show the power and originality of Shneur Zalman's personality and to show the influence his work has had on modern Hasidism.

Jewish cemeteries Hoješín - Přestavlky - Zájezdec. History and contemporary state of the three Jewish threatened sights in Chrudim region

Tato práce se věnuje třem venkovským židovským hr'bitovům na Chrudimsku. Hřbitovy v Hoješíně, Přestavlkách a Zájezdci představují hlavně díky své volné přístupnosti nejohroženější památky svého druhu v kraji, je tedy nezbytně nutné vytvořit evidenci náhrobků, jež bude obsahovat fotografii náhrobku a přepis, popř. překlad náhrobního nápisu. A právě přepisy a překlady vybraných náhrobků tvoří, společně s popisem historie a současnosti, hlavní část této práce, která si klade za cíl seznámit čtenáře nejen s historií konkrétních hřbitovů, ale i s problematikou židovských hřbitovů vůbec. Stručné popisy uvedených tří židovských hr'bitovů na Chrudimsku jsou sice zahrnuty v různých kompilacích2 ) o židovských památkách v České republice, ovšem podrobnější dokumentace, zejména přepisy a překlady náhrobních nápisů, zatím chybí.

Jewish pilgramage places in the Near East and in Egypt in Hebrew travel writings of the 12th-16th centuries

Cílem předložené práce je objasnit postavení a úlohu středověkých poutních míst na Blízkém východě a v Egyptě v náboženském životě židovské společnosti na základě hebrejské cestopisné literatury 12. až 16. století. Tento záměr se pojí se snahou o historický náčrt tří rozličných projevů poutě: poutě (alija le- regel) do Svaté země (Erec Jisra'el), poutě za účelem usazení se v Erec Jisra'eli (alija), a především kultu svatých míst (zijára), které však společně představovaly a vyjadřovaly jeden aspekt, jímž byl vztah Židů k Erec Jisra' eli v daném období. Práce se soustředí na proměnu, vývoj a vzájemné ovlivňování těchto tří jevů, při němž se stýkaly tradice Židů ze Západu i z Východu, a jejich odraz v hebrejské cestopisné literatuře. Hlavní prameny práce tvoří cestopisy židovských poutníků a seznamy svatých míst, avšak vedle těchto zdrojů disertace bohatě využívá i dokumenty z Káhirské genízy, obsahující soukromou nebo obchodní korespondenci, a v neposlední řadě i hebrejská díla historické a literární povahy. K těmto primárním židovským pramenům můžeme přiřadit arabská literární a historická díla, která sporadicky přinášejí zprávy o židovských svatých místech a jejich pouti.
