Regional variability of mortality level on death causes suggestible by health care
Procházka, Martin ; Dzúrová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Lustigová, Michala (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to chart regional variability of mortality using the concept of avoidable mortality which occured in order to compare the differences in the level of health care and consequential mortality. Health care is one of the factors which affects mortality. Since the 1970's the concept of avoidable mortality has passed long developement which is described in the theoretical part as well. Methodology concept of avoidable mortality was subsequently used throughout the Czech Republic for the period from 2006- 2012 and in individual districts and regions from 2006 to 2010. The main chapter of the diploma thesis is based on the results of this analysis. The aim of this diploma thesis is to demonstrate through the selected indicators of health care their impact on different levels of avoidable mortality. Key words: avoidable mortality, regional variability in mortality, ischemic heart disease, nationa screening program, healthcare system
Cognitive maps as a tool of perception of Czechs living in North America
Pánová, Pavla ; Dzúrová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Siwek, Tadeusz (referee)
The perception of American and Czech reality by long-time members of the Czech community in the USA is the purpose of this diploma thesis. The thesis will focus on the possibilities of using cognitive maps in the study of spatial preferences of two groups of migrants. The year 1989 is one of the most important milestones in Czechoslovakian and Czech history, so it was set as a determining date in this thesis as well. This year divided the respondents into two groups - the incoming migrants to the USA before 1989 (inclusive) and incoming migrants to the USA after 1989. Distribution of respondents into two groups then allowed comparison of preferences using both qualitative methods - assessment of cognitive maps, and quantitative methods - statistical testing of the hypothesis. An important part of the thesis has also become demonstrating possible ways of linking qualitative and quantitative research to achieve a deeper understanding of the issue. Key words: cognitive map, perception, preferences, migration, Czechia, USA
Selected methods of mortality analysis focused on adults and the oldest age-groups
Hulíková Tesárková, Klára ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Dzúrová, Dagmar (referee) ; Fiala, Tomáš (referee)
Selected methods of mortality analysis focused on adults and the oldest age-groups Abstract Questions about human life span, longevity and mortality in general are natural to almost everyone. This Doctoral Thesis deals with one central question - whether some limit of human life span or of its improvements exists. It is rather a methodological work, therefore its aim is to introduce not only relevant theories but above all the methods usable in the mortality analysis focused on adults or the oldest-old. At the beginning the most important theories and opinions of scientist dealing with mortality are introduced. In the first half of the analytical part mainly the traditional and basic approaches are included. The theme of life tables is opened by an analysis of its construction in the Czech Republic, together with its possible modifications. As a result the independent macro code for the SAS software is attached in the electronic Appendix. This macro enables to calculate the unknown parameters of selected mortality laws by the method of weighted non-linear least squares and to produce the smoothed and extrapolated values of mortality rates. Using the individual life durations, life tables according to education attainment were constructed (also attached in the electronic Appendix). In the second half of the...
Self-rated health in geo-demographic context
Láchová, Jitka ; Dzúrová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Holub, Jiří (referee)
Master thesis tries to analyze self-rated health in the Czech Republic during the period of transformation. In total, individual data for 7827 respondents from three health interview surveys (years 1996, 2002 and 2008), were analyzed. Significant improvement of self-rated health status in the Czech population was identified. Factors as gender, age, education, economic activity, physical activity, body mass index and social contacts were confirmed as influencing factors of self-rated health in the Czech population. Significant results were found also for marital status, smoking and alcohol consumption, but opposite trends for different age groups were noticed. Eating habits and rural vs. urban differences do not significantly influence self-assessing health. Regional differences in self-rated health were not found in the Czech Republic at NUTS III level. Keywords: self-rated health, influencing factors of self-rated health, regional differences, transformation

Kunftová, Karolína ; Spilková, Jana (referee) ; Dzúrová, Dagmar (advisor)
Karolína Kunftová: Zdravotně-rizikové formy chování, vybrané země Evropy _________________________________________________________________________ 6 Abstract The aim of this graduation thesis was to assess and describe risk behaviour in European countries with focusing upon the five countries that experienced a transition process at the end of the last century. Given the ongoing process of socio-economic transformation significant changes in life style and health can be expected in the Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia. The graduation thesis compared a situation in the five assessed countries under consideration and other European countries based on risk behaviour indicators. The first attention was given on a description and a classification of risk behaviour in general during period 1980-2005. The main part includes typology of European countries based on chosen indicators of risk behaviour. The aggregate data was taken over from World Health Organization in case of substance use (smoking and alcohol) and suicide. We decided for the Cluster analysis for the typology purpose and representing years 1985, 1995 and 2002. In case of smoking were selected: % of regular daily smokers in the population age over 15, number cigarettes consumed per person per year and death rate from selected...
The Czech Banat - a dying community or a region with prosperous future?
Blümelová, Iva ; Freidingerová, Tereza (referee) ; Dzúrová, Dagmar (advisor)
The Czech Banát is an area in Romania where a populous Czech community lives in six typically Czech villages. It has preserved the Czech language, traditions, customs and the way of living for more than 180 years. After the change of the political regime in 1989 many inhabitants have abandoned these villages for Romanian cities or have returned back to the Czech Republic. This research deals with the history of settlement, the development of the size of the population, ways of a living and education in these villages. Based on research made in schools, the opinions and views of the young generation about their future life were explored. Because of the importance of the aid provided by the Czech Republic to this area, it is dealt with in an independent chapter. In the last section, the future of this community threatened by re-emigration is discussed.

Mertlová, Denisa ; Španielová, Hana (referee) ; Dzúrová, Dagmar (advisor)
Transfer thesis study pandemic resp. panzootic avian influenza (H5N1) from a geographic perspective. Analyzes geographical work which has been written on the diffusion of disease spread in space and specifically the issue of bird flu. The knowledges gained from observing panzootic waves of the H5N1 virus are then applied to modeling the processes of spatial diffusion of avian influenza in wild birds and poultry in the period 2003-2008. This work also deals with the influence of migrating wild birds and the illegal trade in poultry in the spread of avian influenza A (H5N1) between different areas. Finally, the study included an epidemiological analysis of avian influenza (H5N1) in humans, which is focused mainly on identification populations at risk and the analysis of mortality in individual states resp. years.
