The beginning stage of the party system formation in Ukraine: from the origin of the opposition movements to the parliamentary elektions in 1994
Bilanyn, Inna ; Zilynskyj, Bohdan (advisor) ; Kubát, Michal (referee)
The policy of Gorbachov's Perestroika stimulated the emancipation of soviet society. At the same time it also launched the process of the political life democratization - different opposition associations and political parties started to appear. An impulse for the rise of the opposition movement in Ukraine was connected to the tragedy of Chernobyl, which influenced public and political life in the country. Many ecological and cultural organizations, which occurred right after the Chernobyl tragedy, became the base for the mass Ukrainian opposition movement named Rukh few years after. From the very start it was just the organization which gathered together people with different political views. In a few years Rukh became the strongest political subject in the opposition to the ruling power and gave the foundation for the rise of the new political parties. Despite the fact that the Communist party of Ukraine lost its absolute power and control over society, the sympathy to the left ideology among Ukrainian population still remained strong. New left-wing parties began to appear in the political stage soon after the prohibition of the Communist party. The forbidden party served as the base for newly appeared parties with the leftist ideology (similar as Rukh for national oriented parties). Renewed Ukrainian...
The language issue during the formation and development of independent Ukraine between 1991 and 2001
Pelíšková, Eva ; Zilynskyj, Bohdan (advisor) ; Horák, Slavomír (referee)
This master's thesis examines the first decade of independent Ukraine in terms of language policy and political organization. It purports to show the impact that Ukraine's political independence had on the national and language situation in the first years of its existence. The first part of the thesis deals with the demographic, national and political state of affairs at the outset of the examined period, in 1989. The second part provides an analysis of the most important laws and other official documents that were supposed to influence further developments in the language policy. The third part deals with the actual evolution in individual spheres of life, namely education, media, bilingualism, administrative and territorial structure, and demographic changes. The conclusion answers two questions, firstly, "How does the reality differ from the plans in the official documents?", and secondly, "What changes can we notice in the language and territorial issue of Ukraine after the first decade of its independence?"
Criminality in the Říčany District in the Second Half of the 17th Century
Czech and Polish Historians after the Second World War. Remembrances, Memories and Reality.
Pokorný, Jiří ; Ferstl, Roman (advisor) ; Zilynskyj, Bohdan (referee)
Kořeny vzájemných vztahů českých a polských historiků můžeme hledat již hluboko v XIX. století. V této době, kdy se začínají formovat základy moderního polského a českého národa, vznikají i obrysy moderní české a polské historiografie. Jako příklad zde můžeme uvést živý zájem otce naší historické vědy Františka Palackého o dění v Polsku, a to zejména v době národních povstání let 1831 a 1863. I když Palacký ke druhému z těchto povstání zaujímal stanovisko ryze negativní a to hlavně díky svému slavjanofilství, rozpoutala se v řadách české inteligence debata, která dostala dění v ruském záboru do středu veřejného života a kromě jiného vyvolala zájem i o dějiny našich sousedů a jejich historickou tradici.
Internal divisions and problems of Ukrainian Orthodoxy in relation to the events of Euromaidan
Jungwirthová, Sára ; Zilynskyj, Bohdan (advisor) ; Kolenovská, Daniela (referee)
This thesis focuses on the reaction of the three main Ukrainian Orthodox Churches (Ukrainian Orthodox Church - Moscow Patriarchate, Ukrainian Orthodox Church - Kyivan Patriarchate and Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church) to the revolutionary events in the country that began at the end of the year 2013. I try to explain the role of churches in this social turmoil while following their changing attitudes and political influence. Their complex inner relations will also be part of this study. Besides that I analyse the way the concept of Russian world is implemented in Russia's foreign policy regarding Ukraine and how this creates inner tensions in the UOC-MP. I also mention the rise of religiously motivated violence which is a direct consequence of the Russian aggression towards Ukrainian territorial integrity. Due to the topicality of the subject, I relied not only on classical sources, but also on many professional religious studies magazines covering the events of Maidan.

The first part of the paper is theoretical and describes the method and the terminology used by the author. It also briefly summarizes the historical context of the outbreak of Ukrainian crisis with regard to the Russian-Ukrainian relations after the Soviet collapse. The second part is analytical and contains a detailed analysis of selected articles, the analysis results and comparison of its particular aspects. Within the comparison, newspapers were compared at two levels - national (Czech Republic vs. Slovakia ) and political (right vs. left oriented newspapers). Work will also focus on the impact of geographical proximity of Slovakia and Ukraine on the higher frequency of reports on the subject of the crisis in the Slovak dailies in comparison with their Czech counterparts. Musilová, Gabriela ; Šafařík, Petr (advisor) ; Zilynskyj, Bohdan (referee)
The main theme of this bachelor thesis is the media representation of the case of politician Yulia Tymoshenko in three selected printed daily newspapers - Czech papers Lidové noviny and Haló noviny and British paper The Guardian in the period 2011- 2013. The Czech papers were chosen intentionally on the basis of its political orientation. Left-wing oriented Haló noviny where was assumed that would sympathize with Russia and Lidové noviny as pro-western representative. Where was expected that will take Tymoshenko side. Through a quantitative content analysis of a total of 204 news and opinion papers, I evaluate what topics this media put to the forefront of interest and how objectively it is presented to readers. A database of individual contributions with the coding of the monitored characteristics related to the topics, the author's expression, the objectivity and the contribution sources is created for the purposes of the thesis. The evaluation and interpretation of the results takes place both descriptively within each journal and comparatively. Evaluation and determination of conclusions as well as coding of indicators are carried out following a thorough study of the historical events in Ukraine related to the case of Yulia Tymoshenko. The research part of the thesis is based on the concept of...
