Dualband circularly polarized antenna for VHF and UHF band
Urbánek, Tomáš ; Šebesta, Jiří (referee) ; Lukeš, Zbyněk (advisor)
The project is focused on the dualband circularly polarized antenna, which is designed for receiving amateur radio frequencies income 145 and 435 MHz. First the work describes the principles of the antennas, then it focuses on the design and simulation. The antenna is simulated in the program 4nec2 and CST MICROWAVE STUDIO.
Application of the Simatic control system for the packaging machine control
Urbánek, Tomáš ; Mišinger, Lukáš (referee) ; Knobloch, Jan (advisor)
Masters thesis deals with the SIMATIC, which is the process control system from Siemens. Simatic belongs to the group of so-called programmable logic controllers (English Programmable Logic Controller). It is a microcomputer that processes the instructions in real time. I have designed a control algorithm and HMI visualization in my Masterś thesis. Moreover,my attention is focused on PLC S7 - 300. The S7-313C is used for implementations. The proposed solution has been tested and operated in real conditions
Flooding in the Czech Republic in 2002 from the perspective of victims and helpers: implications for the organization of the help, psychosocial aspects of the help
Kohoutek, Tomáš ; Urbánek, Tomáš ; Čermák, Ivo ; Špok, Dalibor ; Navrátil, Marek
A survey of 492 households, which were struck by floods in the Czech Republic in 2002, has been carried out in collaboration with the Czech Caritas in winter of 2003/2004 in all the struck regions of the Czech Republic. Structured interview technique administered by interviewers was chosen and supplemented with several scales and was focused on the issues of the course of the flood, impact on the household, of the provided and needed help, and of the psychological impact of the event. Within another part of the research, professional helpers reflected their own experience too. The results are focused primarily on the issues of the needs of the victims in relation to the impact of deluges, on the organization of the help, on the impact of deluges on the minds of victims, and on the psychosocial aspects of the aid.
Human mind as a meaning-processing system
Urbánek, Tomáš
The whole human life is full of the continual work with meanings. Without them it would be impossible to have knowledge of outer and inner worlds, to react to the varying conditions, to communicate, to plan etc. Various branches of semantics, semiotics, philosophy or linguistics deal with meaning. Another discipline that should deal with the issues of meaning in a systematic way is psychology. Surprisingly this is not the case even though there are several authors that systematically engage in meaning matters. The paper will present psychological approaches that deal with various meaning topics, both theoretically and methodologically and will try to compare them.
Relation of antisocial behavior of adolescents to school environment
Sobotková, Veronika ; Blatný, Marek ; Hrdlička, M. ; Jelínek, Martin ; Květon, Petr ; Vobořil, Dalibor ; Urbánek, Tomáš
The study deals with relation between antisocial behavior in adolescence and school environment. The Social and Health Assessment (SAHA), a school survey, was administered to a nationwide sample of 4,980 adolescents in three age cohorts (12, 14, and 16 years) in Prague and 12 regional capitals of the Czech Republic. In present study we focus on cohorts of 12 and 14 years old adolescents (N = 3023). K-means cluster analysis on the items of Antisocial Behavior Scale was used to identify the main clusters of antisocial behavior. Four major clusters of children were identified. Subsequently, adolescents from different clusters were compared on the levels of their attachment to school, school climate, perceived support from teachers and general motivation to study. As we expected, adolescents from the cluster with high rate of antisocial behaviors perceive the school environment as the most negative.
Psychosemantic methods: between qualitative and quantitative approaches
Urbánek, Tomáš
Psychosemantic methods can be loosely defined as methods enabling to examine or measure various features of the human psyche in some way, mostly by means of assessing the similarities or differences between meanings, assigned by examinees to the stimuli used in these methods. These methods can be used for illustration of the possible connection between qualitative and quantitative methodologies, since the data obtained this way can be quantitatively analysed and interpreted both on the level of indvidual and /or appropriately selected group of individuals. An example of the psychosemantic method in this article is the Semantic selection test.
Quantitative approaches to analysis of qualitative data
Urbánek, Tomáš
The three contemporary quantitative approaches convenient to the analysis of qualitative data are presented: data theory, structural modeling based on information theory, and optimal scaling. The generality and flexibility of the approaches in the analysis of relationships among variables are emphasized.
Methods of data analysis in longitudinal research
Urbánek, Tomáš
Longitudinal research designs concetrate on the questions of stability and change of the characteristics under study in time. The paper concerns the issues how these two components of the temporal development are studied by the means of statistical methods. Approaches as regression analysis, growth modeling, ARIMA models analysis and a combination of variable-centered and person-centered approaches.
Nead 2000: Tobacco, alcohol, and illegal drugs among high-school students
Miovský, Michal ; Urbánek, Tomáš
During the January 2001 an extensive research project NEAD 2000 was finished which focused on alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs abuse in the population of secondary school students. This project consists of 31 regional school studies each based on the representative sample of subjects. Besides basic epidemological indicators and psychosocial characteristics of participants (related with drugs use), the NEAD project is one of the basic sources of important indicators needed for local official antidrug policy. On the other hand, this project is very important for planning and implementing of new primarily preventive programs at secondary schools.
The problem of test power in the context of quantitative research in psychology
Urbánek, Tomáš
The statistic methods are widely used in psychological research using both questionnaires and experimental methods. In the statistical data processing, the concept of statistical significance is currently used, but the inseparable problematic of test power is very rarely taken into account. The author tries to correct some mistakes connected with the use of concept of statistical significance and presents the concept of test power as the essential part of the preparation and realisation of quantitativve research in psychology.
