A commented translation of slovenian book: Jasmin B. Frelih Ideoluzije

The goal of this diploma thesis is to create an annotated Czech translation of a literary text. Specifically, the selected three short stories from the collection Ideoluzije (2015) by a Slovenian writer Jasmin B. Frelih. The stories chosen for translation are De Nachtwacht, Vrabci and Pritisk konca. The first part of the thesis briefly introduces the author and his work. The main focus of the work is the translation of selected short stories and creating a professional commentary. The theoretical-practical part deals with individual phenomena that may be problematic in translation, such as neologisms, vulgarisms, interjections, etc. The theoretical interpretation is supported by examples from the short stories. This thesis aims to clarify translation procedures and methods as well as to present solutions to the problems mentioned.

Theme of the Croatian-Serbian co-existence in the Dalmatian inland region in selected novels of the second half of 20th century

The thesis pictures mutual relations of Croats and Serbs in the Dalmatian inland region (in the period from the Second World War until present) in selected novels of two Croatian and one Serbian novelist. To be specific, the thesis analyses following writings from the second half of the 20th century - Anđeli lijepo pjevaju (1953) from Vojin Jelić, Kostolomi (1960) and Klačina (1970) from Jozo Laušić and Braća po materi (1987) from Jovan Radulović. It also focuses on each of the authors' position towards respective theme and compares problematic facts associated with this culturally specific Croatian region. The thesis deals with denial of recognition of nationality and belonging to other culture and it aims on denial of certain problems of Serbian authors of Dalmatia. The thesis takes into account other Serbian and Croatian authors as well and includes them in the analyses. The thesis mentions for example Vladan Desnica, Vjekoslav Kaleb, Dinko Šimunović, Mirko Božić and Ivan Raos, whose writings describes co-existence of both nationalities, studied region and its people as well. However, those authors and their titles are not to be considered as the core of this final thesis. When analyzing the novel of Radulović Braća po materi, this part of the thesis also concerns the film processing together...

The words of foreign origin in English and Serbian with a focus on anglicisms and germanisms

(in English) Our master's thesis deals with formal adaptation of Anglicisms and Germanisms in Czech and Serbian language. The focus of the thesis lies mainly on substantives and their orthographic and morphological adaptation. Moreover, it concentrates on the differences and specificities in both languages and the various ways of writing search terms. For this purpose, Czech and Serbian language corpora were used to serve both the search itself and the approximate indicator of the use of different variants of the writing of individual expressions.

Development and Perception of the Sinjska Alka

! Abstract ! This paper presents Sinjska alka, a knight's jousting tournament that has been held for the last three centuries in the town of Sinj. The paper aims to enlighten even a layman as to not only the particularities of the tournament, but also the region where it is set: the region of Cetina. In this paper, I have strived to put the development of the Sinj alka itself into a broader historical context. It not only pays special attention to the proceedings of the tournament proper, but it also focuses on the accompanying elements (the festive procession, Alka costumes, Alka tournament arms and organization of the Alka Tournament Society). The paper is supplemented with historical and contemporary photos that should bring the visual aspect of this famous Croatian tournament closer. !

Srđan Valjarević - Paradox of the Contemporary Serbian prose (commented translation)

My thesis aims to present the Czech translation of excerpts from two novels by Srđan Valjarević, a contemporary Serbian author, and their translatological analysis. The first translational part deals with Valjarević's debut novel Leaf on a Breadcrust (1990, List nakorici hleba), the second introduces his latest work to date, Lake Como (2007, Komo). Valjarević's fiction has not been presented yet to the Czech audience by means of translation. The core of my thesis lies in two chapters: the first one is devoted to the author's biography and a comprehensive summary of his published work; the second one contains translations and commentaries of the selected excerpts.

The Unusual Identity - Polona Glavan. Commented Translation of selected short stories

Topic of the thesis are selected short stories from the book Guerrillas (Gverilci, 2004) by the Slovene writer Polona Glavan. The first part introduces the writer and her work. It focuses on the literary historic classification of her works as well. It explains the movement of minimalism in art and its appearance in the literature. The last topic of this part is the Slovene generation of minimalists. The second part of the thesis contains the main theme - commented translation of the selected short stories. It means the text analysis of stories and analysis of the selected problems connected with the process of translation. There are presented steps which have been used as well. The thesis is mainly focused on the appearance of minimalism in texts by Polona Glavan and the suitable translation of them to the Czech language.

Ferdinand Velc and his contribution to Bosnia and Herzegovina

The theme of the thesis is segment of czech-bosnian cultural relations. The aim is to sketch the image of Ferdinand Velc and his cultural contribution to Bosnia and Herzegovina at the beginning of the 20th century. There is also created portrait of his multifaceted and intense activity. Ferdinand Velc is introduced as an artist, educator, photographer, journalist, author of the first guide for Bosnia and Herzegovina in czech language and author of the first bosnian-herzegovinian bibliography. The thesis is elaborated on the basis of secondary literature and contemporary print materials.

Momo Kapor: Magija Beograda - commented rendition of a narrative cycle

Short story cycle Magija Beograda (2008, The Magic of Belgrade, Czech anthology Belgrade, my magic love!, 2014) is one of the last works of Serbian author Momo Kapor. His subject matter is contemporary picture of Belgrade and characters in his work are people, who are emotionally bound to this city. The aim of this dissertation is to introduce a Czech translation of the short stories and their translatological commentary. This work deals with the theme of Belgrade work of Kapor, which the author engaged in throughout his whole life and wrote in this style for more than ten years. This area of his work still does not have a Czech literary translation. This dissertation also brings more coherent author's portrait. Pivotal part consists of two chapters, first one is devoted to the profile of the author and the second one to the translation and commentary.
