The effect of high protein enteral nutrition on the nutritional status of the patients in intesive care
Jirků, Jitka ; Křížová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Zlatohlávek, Lukáš (referee)
Background: The paper presents a broad view of the issue of providing sufficient nutritional support (enteral nutrition) with a high level of protein for the target group of patients in intensive care. Patients in these types of departments (ARO, ICU) have different metabolic requirements at different time intervals of their acute illness. Understanding the essence of metabolism of essential macronutrients with all the consequences on the organism is the basis for understanding metabolism in intensive care with a significant influence on the different nutritional requirements of these patients and maximizing our efforts to adapt the type of enteral nutrition to the needs of intensive care patients. Objective: The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of the new enteral formula Peptamen Intense on the nutritional status of patients in intensive care. Assess the possibility of achieving the nutritional target of proteins (energy) according to the guidelines. Evaluate other parameters that influence management of nutritional support in patients with intensive care. Methodology: Ten patients were selected from the workplaces (ARO, JIP) throughout the Czech Republic according to clearly defined input criteria between November 2017 and March 2018. Subsequently, all patients were enrolled in the...
Intensive care unit delirium from nurses perspective
Křížová, Jana ; Hocková, Jana (advisor) ; Maffei Svobodová, Ludmila (referee)
Intensive care unit delirium from nurse's perspective Introduction: Delirium is a disturbance of consciousness, one of the most frequent organ dysfunctions in the ICU. Delirium occurs in 60 - 80% patients who receive mechanical ventilation and is independently associated with increased mortality and development of post-ICU neurocognitive deficit in adult ICU patients. It is recommended to monitor delirium routinely with validated screening tools (CAM-ICU or ICDSC). Experienced and well educated nurse, armed with appropriate diagnostic tools, can actively participate in prevention, diagnosis and therapy od delirium. Objective: This Master diploma thesis objective was to get to know current knowledge of nursing staff working in Czech ICUs about delirium and their clinical praxis. Method: Quantitative research was conducted with a questionnaire filled by nursing staff of ICUs for adult patients in two university and one regional hospital in Czech Republic from August to September 2017. Results: Altogether, 110 questionnaires from 130 have returned (84% return). The outcomes showed that 63% of nurses are sufficiently informed on ICU delirium, 66% would appreciate more education on the subject. All in all, 51% of nurses don't prevent delirium in their patients and 35% don't even know what are the...

Huntington’s disease (HD) is neurodegenerative disorder caused by an abnormal expansion of CAG repeat encoding a polyglutamine tract of huntingtin (htt). It has been postulated that mitochondria dysfunction may play significant role in the pathophysiology of the HD. But it is still not known yet in detail how mitochondria are able to cover energy needs of the cells during the progression of the HD.

This diploma thesis focuses on the nutritional status of patients with colorectal cancer. In the theoretical part I describe the incidence, risk factors of colorectal cancer, clinical manifestations, diagnostics, individual types of anticancer therapies, their side effects and dietary recommendations for individual gastrointestinal side effects of anticancer therapy. In the theoretical part I also focus on malnutrition and nutritional support in the treatment of colorectal cancer. Also important is the prevention of colorectal cancer, which is described in the last section. The aim of the research is to compare the eating habits and lifestyle of patients with colorectal cancer before the diagnosis and during the therapy. The second objective is to compare the weight of the patients before the diagnosis and therapy and to find out the most common causes of weight loss in anticancer therapy. The third objective is to find out whether patients who have had a sipping support during their anticancer therapy will regain their weight compared to patients who did not. The research was conducted through a questionnaire survey. A total of 55 oncology patients with colorectal cancer diagnosis were present. The research was conducted in two hospitals in oncology departments and oncological ambulances. The...
Molekulární diagnostika deficience lipoproteinové lipásy (LPLD) jako výběr pacientů vhodných pro genovou terapii (AAV1-LPL S447X )
Křížová, Jana
Lipoprotein lipase deficiency is a malfunkction of a key enzyme for lipoprotein metabolism. Lipoprotein lipase deficiency can cause serious episodes of pancreatitis. The deficiency is caused by pathology in the LPL gene. There are many variants in the LPL gene and quite a lot of them are pathogenic. The first gene therapy in Europe was licensed for the treatment of lipoprotein lipase deficienciency using a gain-of-function variant of the LPL gene. A pattern of examination was established to including MLPA, Light SNiP, quantitative real time PCR and sequencing in order to find pacients for the treatment. Three pacients suitable for the gene therapy Alipogene tiparvovec (AAV1-LPL S447X) were found amongst a group of patients with history of pancreatitis.
Research of the ability of retention information from verbal education in nutrition mode and the effect of this education by overweight middle-aged people with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Šilerová, Tereza ; Vařeka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Křížová, Jarmila (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on the disease diabetes mellitus. The theoretical part describes the characteristics of this disease. It describes typical symptoms, classification and diagnostics. It also outlines and explains the complications that may occur as a result of the disease and that may be avoided or whose inception and development may at least be delayed. Depending on their type and extent, these complications may significantly reduce quality of life as well as overall life expectancy. It is therefore essential to ensure that patients are properly educated in the right therapy. Education itself is covered in the section of the chapter devoted to treating diabetes mellitus. The practical part of the diploma thesis is devoted to research, focusing on the ability to retain information following verbal nutritional education of patients with diabetes. The aim of the research is to determine the percentage of information that patients gain from education on diet therapy, thus confirming or rebutting the established hypotheses. The research thus serves to determine the effectiveness of education in the care of diabetics. Keywords: diabetes, education, information retention, diet therapy
Abraham in the New Testament
Křížová, Jana ; Mrázek, Jiří (advisor) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee)
The thesis Abraham in the New Testament commences with the narrative of Abraham in the Book of Genesis, evaluates responses to that story in the Old Testament as well as in the extra-biblical literature, and then examines its use in the New Testament. Abraham is introduced as God's friend, a model of faith, and a forefather. The questions are raised as to who are entitled to think of themselves as heirs to Abraham's promises and what are the consequences for the Curch. Appendices provide a list of Bible verses wherein Abraham is mentioned or which make allusions to his story. Other attachments present key texts from the Old and New Testaments and their literal translations as source materials supporting the conclusions of the main text.
