Form and function of nouns in Czech: relation between nominal case and syntactic function. Based on a synchronic written corpus of Czech (SYN2005)
Jelínek, Tomáš ; Petkevič, Vladimír (advisor) ; Lopatková, Markéta (referee) ; Uličný, Oldřich (referee)
The case in Czech is the basic morphological means by which nouns express their function in a sentence. The objective of this thesis is to describe, from a frequency point of view, the relation between form and function of nouns, or, more precisely, how frequently cases (both simple and prepositional) are used to realise syntactic functions in sentences. The thesis is based on one of the largest corpora of written synchronic Czech: 100-million-token corpus SYN2005. In order to obtain data on frequencies of syntactic functions of nouns in relation to their cases, we annotated the corpus SYN2005 with a dependency syntactic annotation. For this annotation, we adopted the format of the analytical layer of the Prague Dependency Treebank. The syntactic annotation has been performed by a stochastic parser: the MST parser. Since the reliability of this annotation was not high enough, we have built an automatic correction module, which identifies errors of syntactic annotation in the output of the stochastic parser and corrects these errors by means of linguistic rules. We have implemented 26 different rules, but annotation errors have been reduced by merely 6-8%. However, this correction module can be further developed. It can be used to correct the output of any dependency parser trained on the data from...
The Introduction of Trusts in the Czech Republic
Jelínek, Tomáš ; Teplý, Petr (advisor) ; Janotík, Tomáš (referee)
Complete recodification of the Czech Civil Code among other changes establishes trusts, a very flexible tool which can be used by both natural and legal persons. Countless possibilities for the utilisation of trusts range from charities through intergenerational transfers of property or pension securitisation to the managing of a corporation and investment activities. The core of this paper is an analysis of three basic elements of trusts: the description of trusts, monitoring and analysing of the contemporary development, and perception of trusts by Czechs. The thesis contains detailed description of rights and duties of the settlor, the trustee and the beneficiary, also compares the Czech and foreign processing and then points out some differences and offers various recommendations. A fully processed questionnaire survey and analysis of the collected data is an integral part of this work. Low literacy about trusts has been discovered and its impact has been assessed. The survey results demonstrate the necessity of establishment of competitive conditions together with fighting negative perceptions towards trusts. The investigation further revealed important as well as unimportant features of trusts to potential settlors. These findings could be significant for the future development in this area....

Jelínek, Tomáš ; Waic, Marek (advisor) ; Štumbauer, Jan (referee) ; Pátková, Hana (referee)
"Outdoor Education" and German Scout-Type Youth Organizations in the Czech Lands Title: "Outdoor Education" and German Scout-Type Youth Organizations in the Czech Lands Abstract: The thesis deals with the formation and history of German youth organizations in the Czech Lands. It especially covers those organizations that either directly referred to the Scout movement originating in the UK or US, or at least adopted the fundamental educational methods and principles of working with the youth which were typical for these movements. These organizations marked a revolutionary change in the approach to youth and their education. Such a change was possible thanks to a series of philosophical, pedagogical and political transformations in the society. Scout movements were especially built on the modern philosophical theories based on the ideas of American and German philosophers. However, the roots of this approach to nature and to human education can be traced to the early modern era, when the first modern approaches to teaching appeared and were generally applied under the changing economic and social environment of a modern society. In addition to philosophy, the movement was also influenced by a number of other social, political, ideological and cultural phenomena. The origins of these organizations can be seen...
Issues of drop forging on presses
Jelínek, Tomáš ; Štroner, Marek (referee) ; Podaný, Kamil (advisor)
This thesis is focused on the issue of drop forging on presses. The power forming machines works with calm pressure of the forging part. Their main disadvantage is the forging of the slag layer into the product. Hydraulic and mechanical presses are used for drop forging. This technology is mainly used in series production in most industries. To achieve a quality forging is necessary proper heating of the semi-finished product to the forging temperature. This reduces deformation resistance, tool wear and the required forming force The design of the forging is based on the drawing documentation of the required part. The shape of the product is driving for the dividing plane, the size of the stock, the permissible geometry deviations and tolerances. It is also necessary to take into account the flash groove, the clamping of the dies and the type of ejector. There are many companies in the market that deal with die forging. For clarity, several of them are listed, with an overview of the machine and production portfolio.
Sports training of goalie in hockeyball

Surviving Auschwitz with pre-existing social ties
Jurajda, Štěpán ; Jelínek, T.
Survivor testimonies link survival in deadly POW camps, Gulags, and Nazi concentration camps to the ability of prisoners to get help from friends present in the camp. We study the case of several hundred prisoners of a small, low-security Nazi agricultural labor camp located in todayís Czech Republic, who were ultimately on transports to Auschwitz, a deadly extermination and labor camp. We ask whether their chances of surviving the Holocaust depended on how many of their former co-laborers from the agricultural camp were present on their transports to Auschwitz, which included another 9 thousand Czech male prisoners. We uncover a large, 10 percentage point survival advantage to having arrived in Auschwitz with at least 50 former co-laborers from the agricultural labor camp. This evidence is similar to that provided by Costa and Kahn (2007) for a US Civil War POW camp, and consistent with the fundamentally selective accounts provided by survivors.

Innovative Financial Instruments: An alternative to traditional grants
Jelínek, Tomáš ; Teplý, Petr (advisor) ; Víšek, Jan Ámos (referee)
Innovative financial instruments in the Czech Republic and their hypothetical use in the field of energy efficiency are analysed and assessed in this thesis. We address lim- ited awareness about multiple benefits of energy efficiency improvements and also emerging innovative financial instruments that are promoted by the European Com- mission as a way to multiply impacts of limited public budgets. Then we identify a suitable segment, Czech residential housing stock and public support of insulation, and compare several forms of possible public support in this field. As the main driver of space heating costs, we predict the future development of heat prices, and assess po- tential energy savings resulting from renovations. Finally, we assess and also simulate the potential of such an initiative and identify four suitable settings of the innovative financial instrument for a majority of stakeholders. Our findings support an idea that this innovative financial instrument offers a valuable alternative to traditional grants. It also suggests that such an initiative can be interesting for a private sector as well as a public sector, with benefits to public budgets, equity investors, households and many other stakeholders. Moreover, this initiative can be sustainable in the long run. JEL Classification G23,...
