Evaluation of the development of the region of National park Czech Switzerland on the basis of social, economic and environmental indicators

The aim of this master thesis is to evaluate the development of the region of National park Czech Switzerland on the basis of the development of social, economic and environmental dimension. The debate about sustainable development which has been held world-wide for many years is connected to discussion of the instruments which would be able to evaluate implementation of sustainability concept. Many indicators were already evolved on world-wide, national and local level. Mainly local indicators will be discussed and a set of indicators suitable for small municipalities will be applied. The theoretical part of the thesis is devoted to definition, history, principles and other implications of sustainable development. Next chapter is addressed on the indicators of development. Theoretical base of development of indicators is amended with a summary of existing indicators, especially on the local level in the thesis. The region of the National park Czech Switzerland is introduced in the practical part of the thesis. Nine municipalities whose cadastral territory is partially located on the territory of national park belong to the region. For the evaluation of their development a set of indicators was chosen on the basis of predefined criteria.
Integrated Pollutant Transfer Register - the positive and negative aspects of the czech legal regulation

The aim of the presented bachelor thesis is to provide a systematic insight into the system of Integrated Pollutant Emission Register as a czech version of Pollutant Emission Registers. The main purpose od the thesis is to answer the question who is the real beneficiary of such a source of information and whether our specific legal provisions have a rather positive or negative effect towards both its users and obliged enterpreneurs. Does it bring more good or bad and does it cost a lot or not? By means of description and analysis of its current legal status, the thesis first seeks to depict its legal development, position in international context as well as its nature and function. The second part of the thesis is devoted to research work, which was undertaken by means of questionnaire addressed to obliged businesses. The questionnaire was divided into three separate parts and its main purpose was to analyse the changes emerging from the new legislation and their financial consequences, taken from the responses of directly involved subjects. At the end, the thesis summarises conclusions from both its theoretical and practical part in order to answer the questions mentioned above and suggest a few possibilities for the future development of the czech system. The bachelor thesis is written in Czech language.
Analysis of the implementation of scrapping scheme from the perspective of sustainable development

The theme of the thesis is scrapping scheme, which was in the Czech Republic during years 2009 and 2010 very discussed and that was despite government meetings stretching over a year finally unloaded. The work collect a large amount of information about scrapping schemes, a state contribution on the disposal of car wrecks, mainly about its implementation in several countries, the subsequent tract and analysis of resulting impacts. Based on experience from other countries with an already undertaken scrapping programs are identified potential impacts that could have a scrapping scheme in the case of implementation in the Czech Republic in the future. The work is also examining the effectiveness of Czech government finance earmarked for scrapping scheme. The main goal of the thesis is to answer the question whether the implementation of scrapping scheme in the Czech Republic would be an appropriate anti-crisis tool.
Water Resources Management: A Case Study of Water Shortage in Mexico City

In the two past decades, the topic of water resources has occurred more abundantly, the water has become the object of many research institutions. While in the 19th and 20th centuries of human progress took place under the sign of coal and oil, today is coming to the forefront the issue of availability of water resources and the related need for effective management which would assure an even distribution. This diploma thesis aims to highlight the problems of water resource management, offers options which would be theoretical focused and an example case study to show what the consequences may have a system which is implemented in isolation without consideration for other inter-sector policy. The context which involves on the current situation of water shortage in Mexico City is identified and analyzed.
Comparative analysis of approaches towards corporate social responsibility

The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on analysis and evaluation of utilization of the corporate social responsibility concept. It describes in detail the sense and content of CSR reports, which are released annually. The work verifies hypothesis, that in the Czech environment the strategy is being implemented in a narrower sense than in developed countries. The practical part refers about results of a few international and national studies dedicated to comparison of the concept domestically and abroad. Previous studies confirm the main hypothesis; the CSR policy is immature in Czech Republic, but is rapidly expanding. The hypothesis is confirmed also by field research, which was performed in four Czech companies that implemented the CSR policy. It was found out that the firms do not use the strategy in its entire extent and issuing reports which would meet international standards is not considered to be a priority for them. The conclusion of the thesis incorporates the assessment of current situation and suggestions for changes.
The effectiveness of voluntary instruments of environmental protection as an example of eco-labelling

The aim of the Thesis is to evaluate the effectiveness of voluntary instruments of environmental protection as an example of eco-labelling and to verify the hypothesis whether eco-labelling is an appropriate instrument to influence consumption and production of environmentally friendly products and services. Based on the characteristics of voluntary instruments of environmental protection this work defines the types of environmental labelling and evaluates under what conditions can be eco-labelling systems, both economically and environmentally, efficient. Focusing primarily on Type I environmental labelling on the basis of summaries of works already carried out, my Thesis studies and evaluates the importance and impact of this tool for consumers, businesses and the environment. The next part of the work is focused on the issue of environmentally preferable purchasing and green public procurement, mainly at the level of the Czech Republic. The practical part verifies the hypothesis about the effectiveness of eco-labelling for example, the National Programme for Labelling Environmentally friendly products and services of the Czech Republic and European Union eco-labelling system. The method of sample survey was conducted and analyzed to what extent these systems are successful at eco-labelling. The survey was conducted among consumers and users of eco-labelling - in the companies involved in the aforementioned eco-labelling systems. The survey was supplemented by the views of experts from the field and has been evaluated by their expert view on these voluntary instruments.
Ecological buildings - passive houses

Abstract This thesis on Ecological housing -- passive houses (stimulation possibilities in the Czech environment) describes passive housing within the development of the Czech building market. This thesis focuses on the technologies of passive housing and compares the devel-opment of passive houses in the Czech Republic and in other European countries. Within the comparison this thesis points out individual economic policy tools used in specific countries. This thesis also defines hypothetical solutions for stimulation of passive housing in the Czech Republic. Efficiency analysis is applied to these solutions. Described hypothetical solutions are based on the costs evaluation of passive and ordinary housing, while the cost calculation takes into account mainly the return rate of additional investment adherent to the passive housing.
CONTEMPORARY PRACTICE IN DISPOSE OF BIODEGRADABLE WASTE

This diploma paper deals with contemporary practice in dispose of biodegradable waste, especially biodegradable communal waste (biowaste) in the Czech Republic. It explains fundamental terms, points out relevant legal rules and describes methods of biowaste handling. It evaluates collection and utilization systems in two cities in the way of comparison method. It compares them from cost and benefits (economic, environmental) points of view. The main purpose of the diploma paper is general introduction into the issue, pointing out negative effect of biowaste landfilling and presentation of actual systems of utilization. Also the work points out contemporary trend consisting in raising separation and reducing biodegradable communal waste landfilling.
Corporate Social Responsibility - sustainable development reporting

This diploma paper researches Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainable development reporting. It deals with the development, basic characteristic and social responsibility areas. It describes institutions and standards, which support this responsibility. It also analyses the GRI initiative and procedure in details and focuses on CSR reports according to GRI initiative. The analytical part researches the companies' accession to the firm social responsibility in the Czech Republic. It evaluates their access to non -- financial data presenting, standards, certifications and regulations using. There are presumptions set for interviews which survey the awareness of companies and public about the social responsibility. The companies' attitude and social responsibility reception are then assessed and elaborated in the SWOT analysis.
Reutilization of brownfields in the Czech Republic with a view to approach of the Central Bohemia Region

The diploma thesis evaluates an approach of the Czech Republic in the reutilization of brownfields, particularly since 2005, when the significant steps in this field were realized. Specific activities performed in this field, mainly basic documents and instruments for regeneration and reutilization of brownfields, are described and evaluated in this diploma thesis. The analytical part is concerned with the approach of the Central Bohemia Region to reutilization of brownfields. It is described in detail, which steps are taken by region in these questions. The approach of particular municipalities in region is evaluated as well. The approach of these authorities is analyzed on the basis of evaluation of questionnaires and subsequently processed by means of SWOT analysis.
