Migration flows in Czech rural area since the 1990s: the analysis of structure and development
Zalubil, Jakub ; Netrdová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Čermák, Zdeněk (referee)
1 Abstract The submitted diploma thesis evaluates the migration movements of the population in the rural area of the Czech Republic in the period 1992 and 2018. The aim of the work is to evaluate the modern development of internal migration of rural settlements in terms of the size of migration flows and to determine the main migration directions to and from the Czech countryside. The evaluation of the size and structure of migration flows was based on the analysis of data from a non-public database on internal migration, which contains almost six million cases of intra-state migration for the given period. These data were first aggregated on the basis of the affiliation of the municipality of eviction and the municipality of immigration to rural areas of the administrative districts of municipalities with an authorized municipal office. The results, which are presented in graphical and map form, show that the countryside is gaining population through internal migration. The results of the analysis showed that the situation is very diversed. The highest rates of migration indicators are reported by defined rural administrative districts of municipalities with an authorized municipal office in the vicinity of large cities, primarily Prague, and the lowest in border areas. Based on the performed analyses of...
Impacts of air traffic at the airport of Vaclav Havel to the surrounding municipalities
Fuková, Jana ; Čermák, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Kolařík, Petr (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on impacts of Vaclav Havel Airport on the surrounding municipalities. It is a very up-to-date topic, because air transport is used by more and more people. That increases the burden on the areas adjacent to the airport. The theoretical part of this thesis starts with short introduction of NIMBY, it provides the most important informations about Vaclav Havel Airport and summarizes negative impacts on the surroundings. It also gives informations about future expansion of the airport in form of parallel runway and public attitude to this planned construction. Subsequently the cooperation of the airport with the surrounding municipalities and parts of Prague is described. The practical part was processed on the basis of data from the questionaire survey. The aim was to get opinions from residents around the airport, what they consider as advantages and disadvantages of living in this area, whether they are informed about the airport cooperation with the place where they live and finally their attitude to the airport expansion with the new runway. Key words: air transport, negative impacts, noise, municipality, parallel runway
Demographic development of small settlements: past, present and future
Torgalo, Alexandr ; Bednářová, Hana (advisor) ; Čermák, Zdeněk (referee)
Rural depopulation is a long-standing affair, taking place in a number of advanced countries. In the European space, mass migration from the country to towns occurred for the first time in the first half of the nineteenth century. In the second half of the twentieth century, rural depopulation accelerated, but the at the beginning of the new millennium it slowed down or even came to a halt. The study wants to analyse demographic development in the smallest settlements which are most threatened by depopulation. There was a comparison of the population development at present and in the past (since the 1970s), the development in peripheral and non-peripheral (core) areas and the development in the smallest rural settlements in comparison with bigger ones. This purpose was served by the indicator "index of change in population number" for three, different development periods. For the sake of delineation of the problem areas, a use was made of further indicators of demographic nature (such as indicators of age). For every unit, they were evaluated by the "rank" method. In the end, these problem areas were compared with the typology of the country. The main finding of the study was that the fall in the population number stopped in all size groups of settlements, including the smallest ones, and in most...
Social integration of Czechs and Slovaks working in Taiwan
Kovářová, Martina ; Čermák, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Horálek, Adam (referee)
The aim of the diploma thesis is focused on providing a thorough insight into the process of integration of Czechs and Slovacs working in Taiwan in 4 dimensions of integration (structural, cultural, interactive, identificational) from the point of view of the migrants themselves and considering the psychological aspects as well. Another aim is to identify determinants possibly facilitating the whole process, and related obstacles, too. To meet the aims of the thesis, a qualitative research has been conducted on the basis of semi-structured interviews. Twelve interviewees took part in these interviews. The findings from the interviews suggest for example that despite participation in the labour market, the nature of their work experience was sometimes illegal, and therefore problematic. Survey also suggests related key obstacles of their integration process such as language barrier and cultural differences. Attitude of the majority society, access to institutional system and social networks were rather contributory factors. Keywords acculturation - dimensions of social integration - psychological acculturation - social integration - Taiwan
Population density and its relation to selected demographic and social indicators
Zalubil, Jakub ; Kučera, Tomáš (advisor) ; Čermák, Zdeněk (referee)
The topic of this thesis is the analysis of the relationship between population density and demographic behavior, which is expressed in this work by values of selected socio- - demographic indicators - total fertility, life expectancy, age index, standardized mortality and urbanization rates in selected European countries. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part defines trends in the development of population concentration and values of selected socio-demographic indicators in European countries. The second part of the thesis identifies the dependence of values of selected indicators on the population concentration and differences between the urban and the rural environment. The context is examined by the cluster, the correlation and the regression analysis. The results are also presented using cartograms. Analyses has shown that population density is likely to have an impact on selected demographic and social indicators at the European level. In the European cohesion regions (NUTS 2), the correlation between population density and other socio-demographic indicators was no longer apparent. Key words: demographic indicators; population aging population density; rural; urbanisation
Environmental migration in the Ústí region: perception of the environment and potential migration
Cejpek, Jan ; Čermák, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Anděl, Jiří (referee)
The diploma thesis analyses environmental migration, that is, the human migration as a result of environmental change. The aim of the thesis is to assess and explain this trend in the Ústí region in Czechia, a region with an extensive experience of environmentally induced migration due to the deteriorating conditions of the local environment. Special attention was paid to potential migration and the perception of the environment by young people aged 15-29 years. A questionnaire survey was used as the main research method, covering questions about the environment and migration (including the perception of the environment, migration motivation or the character and preference of potential migration). The results suggest, for example, that young people living in an area with deteriorated environment perceive it in a relatively positive way. Most importantly, environmental conditions are not the primary factor leading to the decision to migrate, but a secondary one. Economic factors are becoming more significant when choosing the ideal place to live, rather than non-economic factors. Key words: development displacees - environment - environmental migration - environmental perception - environmentally motivated migrants - migration motivation - potential migration - residential preferences - the Ústí region
UNIVERSITY STUDENTS MOBILITY ON ERASMUS+ PROGRAMME
Plešivčák, Peter ; Čermák, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Vágner, Jiří (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with an evaluation of students' mobility through ERASMUS+ at Charles University. In the introduction, I consider the research questions related to this phenomenon and I earmark some specific areas which I am interested in this topic. In the first research section I analyze the registration forms of the students who took part in the exchange stay at Charles University and evaluate the motivation that influences their decisions. Furthermore, I assess these motivations using statistical analysis. In the second research part was done a questionnaire survey among students arriving and departing Charles University for an exchange stay and I focus mainly on three areas. The first of them is the motivation and real benefits of mobility for the students who have chosen to take part. In the second part, I am concerned with the fact if these exchanges have a real added value for students in the field of convergence in Europe and their support for next integration. The last part analyzes the possible main problem of this project and that is its financial difficulty, which affects the student mobility strategy across all Europe. Keywords: mobility, student mobility, ERASMUS+
Interactions of developers and mayors of suburban municipalities in hinterland of Prague
Martinovská, Denisa ; Špačková, Petra (advisor) ; Čermák, Zdeněk (referee)
This master's thesis is devoted to the character of the interaction and negotiation about residential development between the municipality representatives and development companies, the key players in the suburban development. As the geographical area for the research were chosen selected municipalities in north-east hinterland of Prague. The theoretical part summarizes the institutional approach, residential suburbanization, spatial planning and the residential development. The practical part consists of the research itself. It was done as the qualitative analysis of the semi-structured interviews with the municipality representatives and development companies. The interviews are then evaluated on the basis of the theoretical thematic analysis. The interaction between developers and mayors is quite complicated because it represents the conflict of private and public interests. This leads to further negotiations. The character of the interaction and also the negotiations are more or less formed by various circumstances. In this thesis have been distinguished four types of interactions. These types differs in the conditions and requirements determination by the mayors and its fulfillment by the development companies. Keywords: suburbanization, spatial planning, developer, development project,...
Vietnamese Retail as Part of the Non-metropolitan Area in Czechia
Horáček, Jiří ; Čermák, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Freidingerová, Tereza (referee)
Vietnamese food stores are located all over the Czechia and are often the only option for food purchases in non-metropolitan areas. This dissertation is focused on the study of Vietnamese retail in the context of the problems of serviceability of small towns and rural settlements in the Czechia. One of the main goals of this dissertation is to verify whether Vietnamese businesses are one of the ways to save the ever-falling rural service functions. Considering that the issue of rural service provision is an extensive topic, the work only yields partial results that will need to be verified in further studies. The introductory sections analyze the processes of Vietnamese migration into our country and subsequently characterize the development of retail. The next part focuses on the operation of Vietnamese retail where structured interviews conducted within the research serve as a main source of information. The quantitative part of the research focuses on the issue of the distribution of shops, and, in the empirical part, using questionnaire the functioning of the Zásmuky retail trade with a focus on Vietnamese food stores is assessed. The analysis shows that Vietnamese food stores are one of the solutions to maintaining business in rural communities. Due to the efficiency of their operation, which...
