Numerical model of NATM tunnel in stiff clays
Svoboda, Tomáš
The thesis demonstrates the application of a hypoplastic model in class A predictions of a NATM tunnel in an urban environment. The Kralovo Pole tunnel is a main construction of a northern part of a Large City Ring Road construction in Brno. The tunnel was excavated in a stiff clay, is 14 m wide with 6 m to 21 m of overburden thickness. The constitutive model was calibrated using laboratory data and the parameters were optimised using monitoring data from an exploratory drift. Based on the optimised data set, the future tunnel was simulated. After the tunnel excavation the model predictive capabilities could be evaluated. In addition, a Mohr - Coulomb constitutive model was used in simulations of the exploratory adit and plain strain model of the tunnel. The 2D stress relief method for simulating NATM tunnels using plane strain finite elements was in the thesis evaluated by comparison with fully 3D simulations. Three real shallow tunnels in urban environment in different stiff clays were simulated.

Disertační práce představuje aplikaci hypoplastického konstitučního modelu při realizaci NRTM tunelu v prostředí městské zástavby s cílem obdržet "class A" predikce chování zeminového masivu. Tunely Královo Pole tvoří hlavní konstrukci severní části Velkého městského okruhu v Brně. Tunely o šířce 14 m a výšce 12 m jsou raženy v prostředí tuhých brněnských jílů s výškou nadloží v rozmezí 6 až 21 metrů. Materiálové parametry hypoplastického modelu kalibrované na výsledky laboratorních experimentů byly optimalizovány využitím dat geotechnického monitoringu a následně použity při simulacích tunelu. Po průchodu ražby profilu tunelu zvoleným úsekem staničení došlo k vyhodnocení prediktivních schopností a vhodnosti konstitučního modelu. Druhým konstitučním modelem použitým při simulacích průzkumné štoly a plain strain analýze tunelu je Mohr - Coulombův model. Metoda redukce napětí využitá v procesu optimalizace parametrů byla vyhodnocena formou porovnání s 3D simulacemi. K vyhodnocení posloužily simulace třech skutečných podzemních konstrukcí s nízkým nadložím realizovaných v prostředí tuhých jílů. Abstract The thesis demonstrates the application of a hypoplastic model in class A predictions of a NATM tunnel in an urban environment. The Kralovo Pole tunnel is a main construction of a northern part of a...
Translation Criticism in novel Die Liebhaberinnen by Elfriede Jelinek in the Translation of Jitka Jílková
Jestřábová, Radka ; Veselá, Gabriela (advisor) ; Svoboda, Tomáš (referee)
The central theme of the thesis is an in-depth translation criticism of the Austrian novel Die Liebhaberinnen by Elfriede Jelinek in the translation of Jitka Jílková. The criticism is based on the theoretical model of Katharina Reiss which is explored in her work Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der Übersetzungskritik. This model is expanded by the role of the editor and translationese style. At the end of the thesis Jitka Jílková is briefly presented, the translation analysis is summarised and evaluated with regard to an interview with the translator about her work.
Translation of technical texts from German into Czech
Fořtová, Bohuslava ; Svoboda, Tomáš (advisor) ; Špirk, Jaroslav (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to provide an insight into the translation of technical texts from German to Czech. The theoretical part discusses the present state of knowledge of technical translation in Czech and German speaking countries, the scientific discourse, text typology and classification of texts with regard to the context. Furthermore, this thesis describes contrasts of technical texts, and their characteristic features on a lexical, syntactic, semantic, pragmatic and text level. This thesis focuses on technical translation of medical texts with their most common text types and specific features, and explains implications for their translation from German to Czech. The empirical part of the thesis includes translation analysis of a chosen text type and an overview of main text types in medicine, followed by examples of parallel texts in Czech and German. To provide more objective information about translation of technical texts, a survey was carried out among translators and translation services agencies. The subsequent results were compared with the findings presented in the theoretical part. In the conclusion, this thesis summarizes the results of the research into the translation of technical texts from German to Czech with regard to medical texts and offers suggestions for further research.
Annotated translation: Grimmische Märchenfiguren und Archetypen in der Werbung (In: Hessissche Blätter für Volk- und Kulturforschung. vol. 44/45, Marburg: Jonas Verlag, 2009. ISSN 0175-3479.)
Kultová, Petra ; Svoboda, Tomáš (advisor) ; Veselá, Gabriela (referee)
This bachelor thesis consists of a translation of a German text into Czech and an expert commentary on the translation. The translated text is a popular research paper entitled "Grimmsche Märchenfiguren und Archetypen in der Werbung". The expert commentary deals with four areas: translation analysis, translation methods, typology of translation problems and shifts of expression in translation. The aim of the commentary is to acquaint readers with translation procedures and methods, to reflect problematic passages in the text and to find a feasible translation solution drawing on theoretical knowledge. Key words: translation, translation analysis, faithful translation, translation method, translation shift
Language means of social differentiation of characters in literary translation. Alfred Döblin: Berlin Alexanderplatz
Patočková, Veronika ; Winter, Astrid (advisor) ; Svoboda, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis is devoted to a relatively little explored issue - the social differentiation of literary characters and the transfer of its linguistic means. The language material for exploring this field of translatology was provided by Döblin's novel Berlin Alexanderplatz (1928) and by two translations into Czech (1935 and 1968). We analyzed utterances of two characters. The first one represents a lower social class and criminal environment. In his speech the analysis showed many elements of Berlin urbanolect which were used for his social characterization. The second character represents the Jewish ethnic group. His direct speech contains elements of literary Yiddish, alluding to his Jewish origins. The subsequent utterance analysis of the first character in Czech translations showed an appropriate use of common Czech as a substitute for Berlin urbanolect in both translations. The analysis was set in the context where the usage of nonstandard elements in Czech and translated literature used to be a convention. Both translators followed these conventions successfully. When translating the literary Yiddish in the direct speech of the second character, significant differences in both translations were discovered. In the first translation the Yiddish elements were not replaced. In the second...
Translation of Comics. Translation of German Comics into Czech
Schwarzová, Zuzana ; Svoboda, Tomáš (advisor) ; Špirk, Jaroslav (referee)
The thesis contributes to the theory of translation of comics. In the first part, it outlines the development of both German and Czech comics and defines individual aspects of comics translation, taking into account not only language but also images and typography. Regarding language, the thesis looks specifically at balloons, captions, and other characteristics playing an important role in translation, such as interjections, inscriptions etc. The thesis also addresses the interdependence of language and visual messages in comics, which is the typical source of comic effects. Apart from the requirements on comics translations set within translation studies, the thesis also presents the attitudes of publishers and their editorial practices. Based on questionnaires distributed among publishers, we can conclude that they adopt a comprehensive attitude to translation of comics, not only taking into consideration balloons and captions, but also creating favourable conditions to meet the translation studies requirements. Based on the general findings, the thesis analyzes two translations of German comics into Czech. The analysis of their language aspects employs Katharina Reiß's model, images and typographic aspects are analyzed using Delabastita's model. The analyses show considerable differences in...
Realistic hair rendering in Autodesk Maya
Svoboda, Tomáš ; Křivánek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Vorba, Jiří (referee)
This thesis describes a real-time hair rendering in 3D animation and modeling software Autodesk Maya. The renderer is part of the Stubble project a - Maya plug-in for hair modeling. The presented renderer provides a high-quality interactive preview that allows fast hair modeling without the need for rendering in slow off-line renderers. The goal of this work is to create a renderer that can generate images in real-time that are as close as possible to the output of the 3Delight renderer - a plug-in for Maya that is based on RenderMan standards.
Visual odometry from omnidirectional camera
Diviš, Jiří ; Svoboda, Tomáš (advisor) ; Obdržálek, David (referee)
We present a system that estimates the motion of a robot relying solely on images from onboard omnidirectional camera (visual odometry). Compared to other visual odometry hardware, ours is unusual in utilizing high resolution, low frame-rate (1 to 3 Hz) omnidirectional camera mounted on a robot that is propelled using continuous tracks. We focus on high precision estimates in scenes, where objects are far away from the camera. This is achieved by utilizing omnidirectional camera that is able to stabilize the motion estimates between camera frames that are known to be ill-conditioned for narrow field of view cameras and the fact that low frame-rate of the imaging system allows us to focus computational resources on utilizing high resolution images. We employ feature based-approach for estimation camera motion. Given our hardware, possibly high ammounts of camera rotation between frames can occur. Thus we use techniques of feature matching rather than feature tracking.
