Education for active citizenship in terms of project - based learning aproach in an elementary school

The diploma thesis deals with the issue of a cross-curricular subject Civic Education for Democracy. The aim of the thesis is to introduce the significance of education for active citizenship and to create a project that helps pupils to see themselves as an active member of their community. The theoretical section consists of three parts. The first part introduces a project-based learning approach, its significance, principles and historical context. The second part summarizes the fundamental features of the current form of the cross-curricular subject according to the Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education. The last part deals with education for active citizenship and its value. In this part there are two modern reviewed curriculums introduced, which may bring some new impulses to a new conception of the Czech cross-curricular subject Civic Education for Democracy. In the practical section design and realization of the project are described. The aim of the project is to help pupils to see themselves as an active member of their community who is attentive to his/her surroundings and who is able to have an impact in the society where he/she lives. Interview with witnesses in the teaching of history in primary school.

The aim of the thesis is the support and the development of the relationship among different generations and learning among pupils of younger age and elderly people. Teaching national history in a traditional way brings two main problems. Firstly, children learn history through abstract terms, which they are not acquainted with. It is followed by another problem, when the presentation for pupils is not in detail and they cannot imagine most of the historical situations. Memories of contemporary witnesses can help us to solve these problems, because thanks to these memories pupils can better understand historical situations. Therefore, it is necessary to find and use such a way of teaching history in the current education, which would be interesting for pupils. Such a way would encourage an interest of pupils about history and further education. Thanks to this, they can gain different points of view about the background of their family, the place of birth and also about the Czech history. Inner motivation is what we want to achieve. By using activities which stimulate pupils we can develop critical thinking while teaching history. Children's understanding of gender issues on secondary school

1 ABSTRACT The present thesis is focused on primary school pupil's understanging of gender issues. The aim of the thesis is to analyze and compare how pupils understand the gendre issues introduced in the theoretical part of the thesis. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the theoretical concepts of the gender issues - gender, stereotype, gender stereotypes, also related areas, constructivism, pedagogical constructivism and children's interpretations of the world. In this part of the thesis, there is also presented an overview of current research focused on the gender issues. The practical part consists in a qualitative analysis. The data are collected through individual in-depth interview with primary school pupils. The results of the analysis are compared with previous stuides focused on the gender issues.

Didactic processing of National Memorial on the Vítkov Hill in Prague to teach in the context of civic education in primary education.

This Diploma Thesis is based on the Didactic Processing of the National Memorial at Vítkov in Prague for the Civic Education at Elementary School. The description of the building itself is both architectural, practical and functional, especially its use in the context of various periods of the Czechoslovak and Czech History of the Twentieth century. The theoretical part is created by information about the origin, history and use of the monument site and the building, as well as information about the use of the museum and other cultural monuments or important places in primary school education. The practical part of the Thesis contains a proposal for didactic use and is based on the design of an excursion to the National Memorial at Vítkov and the local museum exposition of the Crossroads of Czech and Czechoslovak Statehood, but also on the development of institutions of offered didactical materials and educational programs that can be visited here with children. Didactic analysis of the topic of civic and political participation

The diploma thesis deals with the concept of civic and political participation in elementary and secondary school. Introductory part of the thesis defines terms of civic and political participation, there are also findings about civic attitudes of young Czechs based on international comparative researches. The focus of the thesis is to analyze the representation of the theme of participation at different levels of the Czech education system and to compare the concept of the theme in curriculum documents of selected states. This is followed by an analysis of the approach to the topic of participation by authors of approved Czech textbooks. The analyzes show that the theme of participation is insufficiently embedded in the Czech national curriculum and these deficiencies are reflected in the approach to the topic in school educational programs and textbooks. In the light of these findings, a didactic analysis of the topic of participation is carried out. The diploma thesis sets down the theoretical minimum for a given topic. The last part presents proposals of didactic procedures in teaching focused on topics of civic and political participation. Additionally, the thesis recommends projects of non-profit institutions and other initiatives that focus on selected aspects of the topic of participation.

Media education as a mean of development of lower secondary school student's critical assessment

The thesis is focused on the influence of media education of the ability of students of the second grade of elementary schools to interpret media communication. The reader will be provided an insight into the issue of media and their influence on a person with a main focus on the students of the second grade of elementary school. The second part of this thesis present the concept of media education, it offers a proposal for a block of media education with assessment of the impal of teaching on the respektive competencies of the students. The effectiveness of the teaching will be assessed through research surveys designed as a qualitative comparison of students' testimonies after completing a media education course, using the group interview Focus group. The questions are focused on the critical analysis of media communication, whereas students' answers are compared with a control group that was not equally educated. Understanding Selected Topics of the European Integration

The aim of the thesis is to diagnose the understanding of chosen topics regarding european integration of high school students in relation with incorporation of the topic among curriculum documents. Theoretical part of the thesis introduces the analysis of general educational programmes followed up with general summary of development of integration process into the form it has nowadays and also summary of institutions and their functions. Further we are introducing a contructive approach to teaching which is used as a base of practical part of our thesis. In the end of this part are stated the outcomes of the investigation of existing researches in this area. In the practical part of the thesis we implemented our own qualitative investigative sound using the method of half-structured in-depth conversation. The data gathered from this method were subsequently qualitatively analysed. In the end of the thesis we are introducing the outcomes of investigative sound and comparing them with outcomes of other researches where possible. The outcomes of the investigative sound were crucial for our teaching recommendations.

Prague civic buildings of the 19th and the early 20th centuries as a witness to the transformation of society

This thesis deals with the transformation of the society in the 19th and on the beginning of 20th century and its influence on changes of Prague architecture. Its goal is to find out, how this topic is covered in the Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education and how it is implemented in the history textbooks for Stage 1 of basic education (4th and 5th grades). Furthermore, this thesis examines the development of Prague and the transformation of the society during the period of interest with the intent to determine, how these changes manifested into civic buildings. First part of this work is devoted to a detailed analysis of the available educational documents. It follows, that this topic is not covered in the Stage 1 basic education history classes to the extent that would correspond to the importance of this period for the further development of the modern society. This part also summarizes the professional literature and information available on the transformation of the society and the changes in lives of the Prague citizens, regional development of the capital along with the overview of the architectural styles typical for this period.
