Fixtures, Fittings and Visual Art Objects in the Building of the Former Czechoslovak Federal Assembly
Konopčíková, Petra ; Biegel, Richard (advisor) ; Klimešová, Marie (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the building of the former Federal Assembly, designed by architect Karel Prager (1923-2001). The thesis depicts the circumstances relating to the new Parliament building and the resulting architectural design. The target is to map out the fixtures, fittings and visual art objects in the building. It was necessary to look up in- dividual artists whose works of art had been initially designated to decorate the building. The original artistic concept was created in the sixties during the time of political relax- ation that culminated by the Prague Spring. However, the concept had to be substantially altered in connection with the start of subsequent "political normalization" when most formerly participating creative artists became officially unacceptable. Important sources of information concerning visual art objects for the building were periodicals from the time of construction, monographies of individual artists, catalogues from their exhibitions and dialogues with those who were directly involved. The thesis does not merely enumerate individual works of art in the building but it considers them both with regard to their creators' other visual art objects and the cultural and political situation.
The Cobra Movement in the Context of Art of the 40s and early 50s.
Strasserová, Anna ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Rakušanová, Marie (referee)
This work deals with the experimental art group Cobra which united artists of three countries - Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands, after the World War II. Although this movement was active only between the years 1948 and 1951, the beginning of this group can be traced in the pre-war period when the future members of the group were influenced by the mainstream art movements. Similarly, we cannot see the year 1951 as the end of the importance of this international art formation. Despite the short duration, the group united number of artists from different countries who then influenced many of future artists and art movements. This work therefore mentions the activity of Cobra members before the actual establishment of the group, attempts to describe in detail its work during its existence, and lastly, it indicates its further heading. A special chapter is dedicated to the connection of the group Cobra to the Czech art. The artists of Cobra drew their main inspiration from the work of arts of specific groups, such as that of children, mentally ill, so called primitive nations, or from the folk art. Alongside that, the artists created their own unique style based on collective and spontaneous work and liberal art expression. The plurality of their art expression and their relationship to other art...
Changing perceptions of landscape; work of Miloš Šejn's Conceptual art studio in years 1990 - 2000
Hrnčířová, Markéta ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Rakušanová, Marie (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on the conceptual expressions, that reflect the landscape. This thesis is also trying to imply the possible genesis of these artistic approaches. After the general definitions of terms and introduction, the thesis examines the various topics, which was related to the landscape and it's anti-mimetic visual representation since the late sixties. Another part of the work focuses on Milos Šejn, an artist with a very specific, physical relationship to nature and at the same time a former head of The Studio of Conceptual art of the Prague Academy of Fine Arts, where many of his students were somehow related to nature. I chose four artists, who passed on Šejn's studio and on the basis of their work and available documents, I will try to show, how this new generation have reflected the landscape. If they were inspired by czech artists or by foreign examples, that were not available in the Czech Republic for a long time.
David Hockney: The Way to New Media
Graca, Ivo ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Rakušanová, Marie (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on a British painter, draughtsman, photographer, graphic and stage designer, David Hockney, and his work. Unfortunately, this worldwide acknowledged artist has not yet attracted as much attention of the Czech art- historical environment as he would deserve. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to briefly introduce Hockney's life and work, and to integrate it into the world art history context. A special consideration is taken into the genesis of the artist's output with respect to the work with modern technologies and new media.
Political aspects in contemporary art. Czech and Slovak art in 1989-2011
Kukurová, Lenka ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Pachmanová, Martina (referee) ; Pospiszyl, Tomáš (referee)
This work focuses on the research of contemporary Czech and Slovak visual art which critically reflects problems in the society. Due to the totalitarian past in former Czechoslovakia, this orientation of art made a specific genesis. It was established as a acknowledged part of art only in the last decade. The aim of my thesis was to analyze when and by which means the Czech and Slovak sphere of visual art became repoliticized. I research and analyze selected works of artists who are critically reacting to the problems of politics and society. I keep the chronological order of the artworks and exhibitions. Afterwards I focus on the two important topics in this field: feminism and queer issues. The engagement of the artworks was forced in the past and this fact has its result in the devaluation of the term. Part of my thesis examines the terms political art and activist art in the international and domestic context and proposes its definitions.
Igor Korpaczewski
Placáková, Mariana ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Hájek, Václav (referee)
The work is devoted to reflection on the creation of the Czech painter Igor Korpaczewski (1959) in attempt to place it in the context of Czech art history. Igor Korpaczewski has been operating for over twenty years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he influenced nearly a generation of painters. His paintings have been present at all major exhibitions (Perfect Tense, 2004, Resetting / Alternative Ways To Objectivity, 2007), trying to grasp the phenomenon of contemporary Czech painting. Despite this an appreciation of his complex formation is still missing. The work is therefore based on sub-articles and methods of oral history in the form of interviews with the artist himself. Korpaczewski has been primarily engaged in figural depiction. His conception of figures is here confronted with the early work of the French philosopher Emmanuel Lévinas. Meeting with Korpaczewski images I understand as the projection of I-Thou relationship, which forms the viewer. Unlike his generational peers who have been trying in the Eighties to depersonalize their work, Korpaczewski has been processing (and still he continues in it) intimate topics that he solidly assessed only in the context of the nineties. It is therefore a purely solitary expression, the relationship can be found (among others in various...
Activation of seniors with the help of yoga
Klimešová, Marie ; Leontovyčová, Jana (advisor) ; Chittussiová, Lenka (referee)
My final work is aimed at the activation of seniors with help of yoga. The purpose of this work was to describe theoretically the benefits of yoga and of physical activity in senescence. With help of a questionnaire, we proved the effects of yoga in practise. The theoretical part describes movement and it's features, the philosophy of yoga, which is fundamental for the practise. The practical part is divided in two parts: a sample lesson for seniors and a questionnaire-survey. The survey is aimed at elderly people who have been exercising yoga for a long time. In the conclusion we confirmed our two hypotheses concerning the activation of seniors with the help of yoga.
Alén Diviš and Karel Jaromír Erben's Kytice
Lahodová, Kateřina ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Skálová, Vanda (referee)
This thesis deals with illustratons to Kytice ballads by Karel Jaromír Erben. It is divided into two parts. The first section is focused on relations of the illustrations and the collection of poems as well as the historical context and the context of other painter's works. I try to point out that Diviš'es illustrations do not represent a new artistic stage but a synthesis of his previous works from the forties. In adition, the illustrations are closely connected with the artist's own destiny. In the other section of my thesis I analyse individual illustrations from the point of view of their different technics and motives. Another aspect follows relations between the illustrations and contents of respective individual poems. To sum up, the thesis aims to introduce Diviš'es unique collection of illustrations as an existential message of an artis stricken by his fate; that goes beyond ordinary illustrations for the ballads of the gratest Czech romantic poet. KEY WORDS  Illustrations  Mythus  Ballad  The Specter's Bride  Jan Zrzavý  Emil Filla
Jan Kotík 1916-2002 - A Monograph
Mladičová, Iva ; Wittlich, Petr (advisor) ; Klimešová, Marie (referee) ; Lahoda, Vojtěch (referee)
1 Abstract A monograph on Jan Kotík (1916-2002) introduces both his art and theoretical work, it deals with a historical and cultural context of the now-defunct Czechoslovakia. Kotík's - an artist's, theoretician's, published author's, educator's - artwork enjoys a prominent position in the context of Czech art of the second half of 20th century. An art-historical assessment of artwork was based on Kotik's artwork inventory and on all the documentation on Kotik's life and art work archived in the Documentation Department of the Institute of Art History of the Academy of Sciences of the CR and in private archives in the CR and Berlin. The study is based on a method of organic combination of biographical data and art-historical data with quotation of Kotik's theoretical texts. An evolution of artist's work is demonstrated chronologically with the context to Czech and world art. The monograph includes chapters: "Father Pravoslav's Art Studio and Study Years", "Art Group 42", "Possibilities of Applied Art", "Painting-Object", "Stay in Berlin", "Returns".
