Spoken Czech in Moravia
Tartakovskaya, Anastasia ; Gebhartová, Markéta (referee) ; Hrdlička, Milan (advisor)
My Bachelor thesis aims to clearly describe situation in Moravia and show the stratification of the Czech and Russian languages and a city language in the two Russian "capitals", Moscow and Saint Petersburg. I drew on specialized works dedicated to this topic, small studies in various scientific proceedings, newspaper articles and my own materials. The thesis consists of four chapters. In the first chapter, I deal with the stratification of the Czech national languages, aspects of diversification of the Czech national language, particularly with respect to the role of standard and informal Czech. In the second chapter, I describe situation in Moravia and Moravian dialects. Despite their differences from standard and informal Czech, dialects are still Czech; they are just a phonetic variant of Czech. The third chapter contains an elaboration on the city language in Ostrava, and particularly in Brno. The fourth chapter is dedicated to the stratification of the Russian language, Russian dialects and contains a brief comparison of the "city language" in Russia. For my research, I used the questionnaire method and compared languages spoken in Moscow and Saint Petersburg.

The Czech verb and teaching Vietnamese students of Czech
Tran, Phuong Nhung ; Holub, Jan (referee) ; Hrdlička, Milan (advisor)
My BA thesis is focused on the Czech and Vietnamese verb because verb is the basis of a Czech sentence. It is divided into three chapters. In the first two chapters of my work I used information gained from the sources listed in the bibliography. I compared the two languages with respect to typology. I discussed the differences between flexional and isolating languages. The third chapter is focused on a method of presenting the Czech verb to Vietnamese learners of Czech.
Some problems in pronunciation when studying Czech as a second language: based on Russian speaking students
Ramasheuskaya, Katsiaryna ; Hrdlička, Milan (advisor) ; Hasil, Jiří (referee)
This diploma thesis describes the most frequent difficulties which Russian speaking students face while acquiring phonetic features of Czech. It also focuses on discovering the causes leading to fixation of foreign accent. We are trying to organize, on the basis of theoretical comparison of phonological systems of Czech and Russian, phonetic mistakes which Russian speaking students make. Subsequently it analyses phonetic features described in Czech for foreigners textbooks. It emphasises systematic identification of mistakes appearing in the speech of students studying Czech coming from Russian speaking environment, perceived by: (1) students themselves, (2) their teachers and (3) native speakers. This analysis contributes to better understanding of, how students master closely related foreign language, what difficulties they encounder in education and how the students can cope with those problems.
Dissociation in adolescence. Validation of the Czech version of the A-DES in the clinical and non-clinical group of adolescents
Soukup, Jan ; Papežová, Hana (advisor) ; Hrdlička, Michal (referee) ; Praško, Ján (referee)
The purpose of this study was to find psychometric properties of the Czech language version of the Adolescent Dissociative Experiences Scale (Armstrong et al., 1997). 653 non-clinical participants and 162 adolescent psychiatric inpatients completed Czech versions of the A-DES and SDQ-20 questionnaires (Somatoform dissociative questionnaire; Nijenhuis et al., 1996), and provided further information (data regarding demographic variables, diagnoses, further psychopathology). The Czech A-DES has very good internal consistency, test-retest reliability and a good validity, though its predictive power is limited. The ADES scores significantly correlate with the measure of somatoform dissociation, self injurious behavior, reported traumatic experiences, a presence of clinician-observed dissociative symptoms, and polysymptomatic diagnostic picture (three comorbid diagnoses, differential diagnosis). A-DES scores were significantly higher in ADHD group, but not in a group with a diagnosis of a dissociative disorder. The study supports the intercultural validity of the concept of the dissociation and its clinical correlates; however, further research of the intercultural differences is needed. The authors stress the need to screen all adolescent psychiatric patients for dissociation, especially those who show more...
Suicidal behavior in childhood and adolescence
Koutek, Jiří ; Hrdlička, Michal (advisor) ; Papežová, Hana (referee) ; Stárková, Libuše (referee)
Objectives: The aim of this study was to identify risk factors and possible predictors of severity of suicidal behavior of children and adolescents. Methods: Seventy-seven patients (15 boys and 62 girls) aged 15.5 1.6 years on average, hospitalized due to a suicidal attempt in the department of pediatric psychiatry, were examined. Structured interviews with patients and their parents were used to clinically assess circumstances of suicidal behavior, relevant risk factors and severity of suicidal behavior. Results: The results indicated that patients with any previous traumatic experience tended to have somatically less severe suicidal attempts (p = 0.050). Intensity of suicidal intent was associated with a history of depression (p = 0.014) and anxiety disorders (p = 0.004), and the current stress from a mental disorder (p = 0.014). Somatic severity of suicidal behavior was significantly associated with intensity of suicidal intent (p = 0.014). A history of any trauma (previous traumatic experience predicted less severe suicidal behavior, p=0.053) and the current stress from sexual problems (p=0.067) were identified as predictors of somatic severity of suicidality. These two predictors showed only a trend level of significance. The only significant predictor of intensity of suicidal intent was the current...

Acquisition of Czech by French learners: automatic analysis of errors in declension
Šmilauer, Ivan ; Hajičová, Eva (advisor) ; Hrdlička, Milan (referee) ; Cardey-Greenfield, Sylviane (referee)
Our work presents the realization of a platform of computer-assisted language learning CETLEF, featuring on-line fill-in-the-blank exercises with automatic feedback on errors. CETLEF, consisting of a relational data base and author and learner interfaces, rendered necessary the definition of a model for declension in Czech. This model contains a detailed classification of the paradigms and rules for the realization of vocalic and consonantal alternations. It enables the morphological annotation of required forms, the didactic presentation of the morphological system of Czech on the learning platform, as well as the automatic error diagnosis. Diagnosis is carried out by the comparison of an erroneous production with hypothetical forms generated from the stem of the required form. An appraisal of the diagnosis of the productions collected on CETLEF shows that the vast majority of errors can be interpreted with the aid of this technique.
On variants in Czech morphology
Gil Herrera, Mariana ; Adamovičová, Ana (referee) ; Hrdlička, Milan (advisor)
The aim of this thesis is to introduce a problem which was not very well developed prior to the implementation of the Czech National Corpus: Czech morphological variants. All these variants were analyzed from the perspective of different Czech grammar standards (Čechová, 2000; Česká mluvnice, 1981; Příruční mluvnice češtiny, 1995; Akademická mluvnice II, 1986; and Šmilauer, 1972), the Czech literary dictionary (Slovník spisovné češtiny pro školu a veřejnost, 2004) and the Czech National Corpus (Korpus Syn2005). Analyzed variants were taken from all the Czech nouns: masculine animate and inanimate, feminine and neutral nouns. Due to the limited extension of this work, it was not possible to include variants from substantives with a variation in gender, adjectival substantives, indeclinable substantives, territorial substantives and personal substantives. These topics would have to be considered in a future work. The thesis consists of three chapters. The first chapter presents the theoretical basis of the work. In the first part of this chapter we analyze the composition of the Czech language from different points. Next, we define the concept of norm, use and codification, and the theory of the evolution of language. Finally, we highlight the concepts of variant within its differences. This chapter is mainly...

Kočová, Kateřina ; Hrdlička, Milan (advisor) ; Valková, Jarmila (referee)
1 Abstract This diploma introduces three alternative methods taught in the study of foreign languages - a method of suggestopedy, Nepustil's method and the Act and Speak method. The purpose of this work is to approach the methods from a historical and methodological perspective. The main focus is aimed at inspections of alternative schools, supplied with student's questionnaires and the visual material from classes. The theoretical part discusses methods from a historical perspective, the progress and presentation of grammar and learning material. Furthermore introducing the basic concept and features of alternative methods with the posibility of applying them during the teaching of Czech language for foreigners. The practical part introduces research made up of inspections at alternative schools along with interviews with founders and successors of these methods. As analysis of the questionnaires that explore the opinions and awareness of teachers about the effectivity and usefulness of untraditional methods in teaching is also a part of it. Practical inspections and conclusions based on the results of questionnaires showed the Act and Speak method to be the most beneficial method. The practical part concludes by presenting other activities for teaching Czech for foreigners that are based on those...
