Telemetric monitoring of the feral pigeon ( Columba livia f. domestica) population at the Karlovo namesti square in Prague
Kanov, Štěpán ; Řezníček, Jan (advisor) ; Novák, Jindřich (referee)
"A Telemetric monitoring of the feral pigeon ( Columba livia f. domestica) population at the Karlovo náměstí square in Prague" This thesis deals with both the monitoring of numbers in the pigeon (Columba livia f. domestica, "the Pigeon") sites in question and also the spatial definition of the daily activities of individual specimens using a telemetric system. Previous researches gathered data on population density and food routes usually obtained by observation. Therefore we believe it's important to supplement this data with spatial movement maps of individuals that cannot be obtained by observation but the telemetry system allows us to do so in certain time period. The data obtained from GPS trackers will be processed into daily spatial activity maps of the specimen. These data will hopefully help us to gain insight into the life of not just specific individuals, but will also allow us to derive spatial activity of the entire population living in the locality in question. The results will be compared with the results from the previous pigeon count. This knowledge can be useful to population control, or serve in other studies. Keywords: pigeon, abundance, telemetry
On the origin of words (Freshwater Fish Labelling Etymology in the Czech Republic and European English-speaking countries)
Novák, Lukáš ; Řezníček, Jan (advisor) ; Rajchlová, Štěpánka (referee)
The thesis doesn't have the tendency or ambition to reach the particular conclusion or final solution (which would be at least as debatable as the construction that it is based on). But it should bring different approach and focus on selected animal genus (our distant ancestors), accepting them as a contemporary cultural, economical and culinary interest. Insight trough the prism of tendency, specifics and unwritten rules of linguistics, under the thumb of cultural representativneness and its identification. The contact of two distinc worlds, antithesises. The silent and peaceful world of fishes, that has retained the objectified prism of lucent wall under the water level, which singularises it from antropocentric world of "those", who think to stand on the top of imaginary pyramid. The work is divided in three parts: Introductory principles, etymological research and addendum, which interprets fish from the art, astronomy, folklore, and booklore point of view.
Potential of using mammal skulls in classes of natural science
Vadasová, Rebeka ; Řezníček, Jan (advisor) ; Andreska, Jan (referee)
The thesis puts mind to possibilities of using mammal's skulls in classes of natural science. The work gathers from foreign materials about this subject matter and tries to pass them to the Czech ambient. The first part of the text summarizes theoretical observations about skulls, teeth and owl pellets from which suggested activities proceed. In methodology there are described the ways of skull cleaning and methods of owl pellets collecting and identification of osteologic fragments contained in them. Two units of classwork are the work produce, the first one dedicated to owl pellets dissection, the second one focused on skull identification and life modes derivation from skull characteristics. The authoress successfully tried these proposed activities with pupils from sixth and eighth classes of primary school.

The subjekt of the degree work (dissertation) is the proposition of the nature trail in the national park. Wild Šárka including the didactic utilization in the course oi biology lessons at the primary school. I he theoretical part contains the description oi the territory including the geographic definition and the profile of individual categories of plant, animal and geographical components. Simultaneously there are mentioned the historical relations in the region corresponding to the conterporary appearance of the landscape and that of biological diversities and the manners of the care resulting out of that. The main target of the degrese work (dissertation) was to create proposals of notice boards for the nature trail that is to be implemented in this national park and its nearby surroundings. Notice boards should serve to increase the knowladge of the poblic concerning this region and simultaneously to guide it to the more responsible conduct in this site. Owing to the accessability by means of public municipal transport the site is suitable for the organization of school educational visits. For that reason there were elaborated working sheets that correspond to the subjects of notice boards of the nature trail, but at the same time it is possible to use them with minor changes for another site, fhe...
Chiropterans in education of zoology at elementary and high schools
Špringerová, Pavla ; Andreska, Jan (advisor) ; Řezníček, Jan (referee)
This graduation thesis processes the topic of Chiropterans and focuses on its use in education of biology at elementary and high schools. The thesis consists of two main parts. Theoretical part provides basic information about Chiropterans, their characteristic signs, habits and way of life. Special attention is focused on species of bats living in Czech Republic. The chapter deals with the factors threatening Chiropterans and problems of their protection in Czech Republic are addressed as well. Practical part of this work processes excursions to winter roosting sites of the bats and also proposes summer excursions to their hunting-grounds with the use of electronic device to monitor active bats. The same chapter deals with didactic and methodic too. PowerPoint presentation, suitable for introduction Chiropterans to pupils and students at schools, is also part of this work. Major reason for choosing this topic is lack of zoological excursions at elementary and high schools. It is because zoological excursions are considered to be complicated to organize and difficult to prepare. Therefore students don't have a possibility to observe animals in their nature sites. Excursions to winter roosting sites provide good opportunity to change this situation. Another reason for choosing the topic of this thesis is the...
The forest ecosystem in science and biology teaching
Aspects of Conflict in the Behaviour of Fish and the Protection of a Specially-Protected Species (Phalacrocorax carbo) after 25 years of Breeding the Species in the Czech Republic
Rusňák, Štěpán ; Řezníček, Jan (advisor) ; Andreska, Jan (referee)
The thesis objective was to collect all modern biological knowledge about the presence, migratory and feeding habits of a special grade protected bird species of The Great Cormorant and to collect statistical data on its predatory pressure on fish communities which represents the core of the conflict between nature conservation activists and fish farmers. The findings of ornithological monitoring have been used as input data - winter habitat frequency of the bird species, data on nest distribution of the birds and feedback reports on bird-ringing in the last three decades. Data on selective shooting requests and estimated damage compensation request data relating to the species has been provided, too. An extensive survey in the ornithological community's opinions has been carried out. Using the results of literature research, direct observations and a statistics evaluation, I tried to find an answer to the following questions: - What is the cause of the pan-European species expansion? - What damage does the species cause with its feed behaviour to the fish farmers? - How can the damage claim be specified and provable? - What are the potential methods of protecting the fish communities and the species regulation within the legislation limits? - To what degree is it feasible to protect cormorants in the Czech...
