There is a growing volume of global data, which is offering new possibilities for those market participants, who know to take advantage of it. Data, information and knowledge are new highly regarded commodity especially in the banking industry. Traditional data analytics is intended for processing data with known structure and meaning. But how can we get knowledge from data with no such structure? The thesis focuses on Big Data analytics and its use in banking and financial industry. Definition of specific applications in this area and description of benefits for international and Czech banking institutions are the main goals of the thesis. The thesis is divided in four parts. The first part defines Big Data trend, the second part specifies activities and tools in banking. The purpose of the third part is to apply Big Data analytics on those activities and shows its possible benefits. The last part focuses on the particularities of Czech banking and shows what actual situation about Big Data in Czech banks is. The thesis gives complex description of possibilities of using Big Data analytics. I see my personal contribution in detailed characterization of the application in real banking activities.
The need for united perception of management accounting outputs
Sipták, Roman ; Král, Bohumil (advisor) ; Slánský, David (referee)
In this thesis I'm devoted to united perception of outputs of management accounting in company. With different perception the company has problems with communication and evaluation of set targets. Furthermore there are problems in communication between departments and in the end even generation of large quantity of duplicate outputs. The example of insurance company and bank showed that the solution isn't just implementation of place of one truth in company (data warehouse) but there is a need for catalogue of outputs, key indicators, terminology and used systems and roles. This catalogue should be easily accessible to all outputs users. Implementation and use of catalogue will bring on convergence in outputs perception and improves understanding in internal communication
Evolution and value ob Business Intelligence in the period of economic crisis
Prchlík, Tomáš ; Slánský, David (advisor) ; Pour, Jan (referee)
The goal of this thesis is to create a comprehensive overview of how the economic crisis influenced the business intelligence market. The introduction is dedicated to the general principles of the business intelligence technologies. It is followed by analysis and identification of the commercial sector's problems associated with the recent economic decline as well as shortcomings that the corporate executives commit in the times of economic growth, and a proposal of solutions to these problems using Business Intelligence applications. The next part of the work is focused on the global analysis of benefits of the solutions and their future development. The final part of the thesis serves as an argument to highlight the importance of BI and is demonstrated on several examples of successful BI implementations in various businesses operating in different sectors. The thesis aims not only to analyze and document the development and changes in the understanding of Business Intelligence during the economic crisis but it should also motivate potential readers from among the management to consider whether they should also support the acquisition of BI in their businesses. This document should prove that if they invest in Business Intelligence in times of crisis then they might not need to implement unpopular solutions to their problems. The relevance of this subject is only underscored by the fact that unless the development of the world economy improves its current course, we might find ourselves at the beginning of another, perhaps even more significant crisis. The appendix summarizes the BI applications' inputs, different processing and information analysis methods, and the possibility of using their outputs to improve the operation of the enterprise.
Client data quality management
Vacek, Martin ; Slánský, David (advisor) ; Pour, Jan (referee)
There are series of competition battles emerging in present day while companies are recovering from last economic crisis. These battles are for customers. Take financial market for example -- it's quite saturated. Most of people do have some financial product since their birth date. Each one of us has insurance and most of us have at least standard banking account. It is imperative that insurance companies, banks and such firms have needed information about ourselves, for us to be allowed the use of these products. As the time passes we change the settings of these products, we change products themselves, buy new ones, set their portfolios, go to competition, even employees and financial advisors who take care of us do change over time. All of the above means new data (or a change, to say at least). Our every action specified leaves a digital footprint in the information systems of financial services providers who then try to process these data and use them to raise the profit using various methods. From the individual company's point of view is customer (in this case a person who has at least one product historically) unfortunately tracked multiple times due to the above changes, so this person actually seems like multiple persons instead of one. There are many reasons behind this and they are well known in common practice (Many of them are named in theoretical part). One of the main reasons for this is a fact that data quality was not a priority in past. However, this is not the case of present day and one of the success factors when it comes to spoiling client base portfolio is the level of quality of information that are tracked by companies. Several methodologies for data quality governance are being created and defined nowadays, although there is still lack of knowledge of their implementation (not just in the local Czech market). These experiences are well prized but most of internal IT departments are facing lack of knowledge and capacity dispositions. This is where great opportunity emerges for companies that use accumulated know-how from various projects that are not quite frequent in individual firms. One of such company is KPMG, Czech republic, LLC., thanks to which this work was created. So, what is the purpose and field of knowledge that is covered on the pages following? The purpose is to describe one such project concerning analysis and implementation of chosen tools and methodologies of data quality in real company. Main output is represented by a supporting framework as well as a tool that will help managers cease administration and difficulties when managing projects that concern data quality.

Methodology of development and deployment of Business Intelligence solutions in Small and Medium Sized Enterprises
Rydzi, Daniel ; Jandoš, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Vlček, Radim (referee) ; Slánský, David (referee)
Dissertation thesis deals with development and implementation of Business Intelligence (BI) solutions for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SME) in the Czech Republic. This thesis represents climax of author's up to now effort that has been put into completing a methodological model for development of this kind of applications for SMEs using self-owned skills and minimum of external resources and costs. This thesis can be divided into five major parts. First part that describes used technologies is divided into two chapters. First chapter describes contemporary state of Business Intelligence concept and it also contains original taxonomy of Business Intelligence solutions. Second chapter describes two Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD) techniques that were used for building those BI solutions that are introduced in case studies. Second part describes the area of Czech SMEs, which is an environment where the thesis was written and which it is meant to contribute to. This environment is represented by one chapter that defines the differences of SMEs against large corporations. Furthermore, there are author's reasons why he is personally focusing on this area explained. Third major part introduces the results of survey that was conducted among Czech SMEs with support of Department of Information Technologies of Faculty of Informatics and Statistics of University of Economics in Prague. This survey had three objectives. First one was to map the readiness of Czech SMEs for BI solutions development and deployment. Second was to determine major problems and consequent decisions of Czech SMEs that could be supported by BI solutions and the third objective was to determine top factors preventing SMEs from developing and deploying BI solutions. Fourth part of the thesis is also the core one. In two chapters there is the original Methodology for development and deployment of BI solutions by SMEs described as well as other methodologies that were studied. Original methodology is partly based on famous CRISP-DM methodology. Finally, last part describes particular company that has become a testing ground for author's theories and that supports his research. In further chapters it introduces case-studies of development and deployment of those BI solutions in this company, that were build using contemporary BI and KDD techniques with respect to original methodology. In that sense, these case-studies verified theoretical methodology in real use.

Comparison of the quality of solutions is also done.
Master Data Integration hub - solution for company-wide consolidation of referrential data
Bartoš, Jan ; Slánský, David (advisor) ; Pour, Jan (referee)
In current information systems the requirement to integrate disparate applications into cohesive package is greatly accented. While well-established technologies facilitating functional and comunicational integration (ESB, message brokes, web services) already exist, tools and methodologies for continuous integration of disparate data sources on enterprise-wide level are still in development. Master Data Management (MDM) is a major approach in the area of data integration and referrential data management in particular. It encompasses the referrential data integration, data quality management and referrential data consolidation, metadata management, master data ownership, principle of accountability for master data and processes related to referrential data management. Thesis is focused on technological aspects of MDM implementation realized via introduction of centrallized repository for master data -- Master Data Integration Hub (MDI Hub). MDI Hub is an application which enables the integration and consolidation of referrential data stored in disparate systems and applications based on predefined workflows. It also handles the master data propagation back to source systems and provides services like dictionaries management and data quality monitoring. Thesis objective is to cover design and implementation aspects of MDI Hub, which forms the application part of MDM. In introduction the motivation for referrential data consolidation is discussed and list of techniques used in MDI Hub solution development is presented. The main part of thesis proposes the design of MDI Hub referrential architecture and suggests the activities performed in process of MDI Hub implementation. Thesis is based on information gained from specialized publications, on knowledge gathererd by delivering projects with companies Adastra and Ataccama and on co-workers know-how and experience. Most important contribution of thesis is comprehensive view on MDI Hub design and MDI Hub referrential architecture proposal. MDI Hub referrential architecture can serve as basis for particular MDI Hub implementation.
BI as a service
Musil, Martin ; Slánský, David (advisor) ; Pour, Jan (referee)
The main objective of the thesis is to present SaaS business intelligence as a set of concepts and methods aimed at improvement of business decision making process based on Software as a Service model. To understand this, it's important to describe first general principles, on which are based conventional so-called on-premises solutions and the means how they work. It's also necessary to present Software as a Service as today's very popular software deployment model. Further objective is the description of these solutions, introduction of their strengths, weaknesses and guidelines how to choose a suitable service provider. Final objective of the thesis is to compare these two different methods of BI tools deployment, in that case on-premises and on-demand and to sketch out means, following them will be possible to decide for one of the methods.
