Predicting the Outcomes of Darts Matches

This thesis deals with various approaches to modeling darts matches. We compare rating models, models based on statistics and a model that views the game states and random transitions between them as a Markov chain. As a part of the thesis, we propose a method for calculating statistics reflecting both long-term and short-term form of the players. Using a detailed dataset containing individual darts, we also derive how to choose a target based on the state of the match. The models are evaluated according to standard criteria for classification problems, but in addition, using bookmakers' odds, we estimate the profitability if betting would take place in practice according to the models' predictions. 1

Essays on Migration and Trade

The unifying theme of my dissertation is access to foreign markets, be it through social networks (immigration), or independent NGO-driven initiatives (Fair Trade). In the first paper, "Immigrant Networks, Trade Creation, and Trade Diversion", I derive a simple gravity model with matching and use data on the foreign-born population located in 19 OECD-member countries to estimate the impact of immigrant links on trade. The relative impact on trade of immigrant networks declines with the GDP of source country and is generally smaller than estimates from preceding studies. The theoretical framework explicitly models forgone bilateral trade and shifts in trade flows due to immigrant links. There is some empirical evidence that immigrant networks change trade flows between countries. The net effect on total trade of a 10-percent increase in the overall immigrant stock varies between -0.12 and 1.18 percent for host countries and -6.99 and 2.58 percent for source countries in the sample. The second essay entitled "Expatriates and Trade" evaluates the contribution to bilateral trade flows of expatriates from the OECD economies living in less developed countries. Prediction of results of tenis match in progress using machine learning

This thesis focuses on applications of machine learning for prediction of a tennis match in progress. We propose three feedforward neural networks and compare them with a baseline model which assumes that individual points are independent and identically distributed. As a part of the comparison, odds from the betting exchange Betfair are used to estimate probability of winning. Features representing current match state and its past progress are proposed to make greater flexibility possible. Differences between models are inspected and an attempt to interpret them is made. 1

Isotope alteration of carbonate component of Cretaceous sediments from xenolites and vicinity of selected neovolcanic bodies of the Jičín volcanic field

The diploma thesis deals with the study of stable isotopes of oxygen and carbon of Cretaceous rocks from the Jičín volcanic field. The aim of the thesis is to identify isotope alterations in Cretaceous sediments transported by basic magmas in the form of xenoliths and to determine the origin of oxygen and carbon of hydrothermal vein carbonates that penetrate the bodies of neovolcanites. The study is divided into two parts. The theoretical part summarizes in general the stratigraphy of the Czech Cretaceous Basin and Cenozoic volcanism of the Bohemian Massif, geochemistry of stable isotopes of oxygen and carbon and geology of studied localities in the Jičín volcanic field. The practical part presents a detailed isotope study of Hřídelec, Kulatý vrch, Zebín, Veliš and Kunětická hora localities. Cretaceous rocks from xenoliths in these neovolcanites show extreme variability in the isotopic composition of both carbon (from 0,15 to -11,1 ‰ V-PDB) and oxygen (from -5,4 to -22,9 ‰ V-PDB). They significantly exceed the variability of the isotopic composition of diagenetically altered Cretaceous rocks from the same area. English Foreign Policy from the Restoration to the Peace of Nijmegen

Předkládaná diplomová práce se soustřeďuje na proměny anglické zahraniční politiky od obnovení stuartovské monarchie roku 1660 do roku 1678. Zmíněné období je sledováno zejména krále Karla II. a jeho okolí dílčí zájem se soustředí na recepci jednotlivých kroků ze strany dalších domácích i zahraničních aktérů. Důraz je kladen hlavně na proměny vzájemných vztahů Francií a Nizozemím, pozornosti se těší též vztahy s Dánskem, Portugalskem, Španělskem a Švédskem, stejně jako pohled anglických politických elit. Anglická diplomacie je v této práci pojímána v kontextu vývoje anglické domácí politiky a s přihlédnutím k dění v ostatních evropských zemích. V omezené míře je nastíněn také hospodářský, konfesní a mezinárodněprávní rámec, ve kterém se anglická diplomacie zmíněných let pohybovala.

Main focus of this thesis is to extend the database of mechanical equipment for creation and maintenance of grassland and compile a set of rules for the selection of suitable mechanical equipment with examples. Literary part describes the types of lawns and their demands for maintenance. Machines for mowing, verticutating , land forming and mulching were selected into the database. These machines were supplemented by technical parameters and saved into the database.

The bachelor thesis deals with the design of the information systém for VIVO CONECTION s.r.o., which specializes in providing internet conection and communication technologies. The company uses an information system called IKARUS, which evolves itself. Based on the analysis of the current state, I will try to find weaknesses of the information system and propose optimization for maximum efficiency. The outcome of this thesis will draft amendments of information system to achieve better efficiency.
