PhD Thesis Summary: Imagining the West: Marginality and Possible Lives at the Outskirts of a Mexican City Mgr. Marie Heřmanová The thesis aims to develop various results of a long-term fieldwork in the city of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, México, where rural-urban migration was pervasive since the 1960s. The research concentrated on the second generation of Tzotzil and Tzeltal migrants living at the suburbs of the city. Young indigenous people, whose parents came to the city to seek jobs, are now completely bilingual (they speak their maternal language - mostly Tzotzil as well as spanish they have learned in the school in the city). They mostly work in the same areas as the first generation migrants - as shop-keepers, souvenirs sellers or street-food vendors. They are thus in everyday interaction with both tourist and expats in the city centre. These interactions and meetings are in the context of the thesis seen as a consitutive element to imageries of mobility, modernity and Western lifestyles developed by the the young indigenous people from the suburbs. The concept if "Imaginary West" (Yurchak 2005) is central in the thesis, an unseen and yet ever-present homeland of the tourists and most importantly a place where "better lives" happen. Psychrotrofní mikroorganismy jako původci kažení masa a masných výrobků

The diploma thesis is focused on the occurrence and development of psychrotrophic microorganisms and their influence on meat and meat products, two experimental experiments were carried out. The first analysis concerns the determination of the microbial quality of pork and chicken meat packaged simply and in vacuum. The relationship between the development of microbiological contamination has been evaluated, depending on the storage life and the packaging method. Microbiological analysis samples were taken from the day of slaughter of slaughter animals, followed by the 1st, 3rd, 7th and 11th day of storage. This experiment was performed in two replicates. In the second analysis the development of CPM and psychrotrophic microorganisms in samples of heat treated meat products with the addition of whey and fiber, as well as during storage, was monitored. Laboratory analysis was performed immediately after manufacture and subsequently after 7, 10 and 14 days of storage without vacuum packing or packing in a protective atmosphere.

Digital Nomadism: The Instinct of Wandering in Contemporary Society

Recent estimates suggest that there are currently around 4.8 million people who consider themselves to be digital nomads. They are widely depicted in the media, most often as young professionals who successfully combine work, leisure and travel into one holistic lifestyle. Despite this significant presence in today's popular culture, from a research point of view, digital nomadism is almost unexplored phenomenon. Therefore, the aim of this work is the analysis and interpretation of the phenomenon of digital nomadism, not only through my own ethnographic research and reflection, but also in terms of current theoretical concepts in anthropology of tourism and mobility. The research itself focuses mainly on selected aspects often associated with digital nomadism in the mainstream media, and how informants reflect them. I deal with aspects such as the blurred boundaries between work and leisure, mobility slowdown, the origin of co-working spaces, the concept of freedom and, last but not least, the social changes that have led to the global expansion of this phenomenon. Kambo and its many faces

This dissertation applies anthropology analysis to study a specie of a tree frog, living in the northern Amazonia, called Kambo. The wax-like substance, which the frog releases upon irritation, is used for its healing potential around the world. A basic conceptual framework is used to analyse the frog from the perspective of modernity, globalisation, and diffusion of cultural dimensions. The dissertation anticipates their influences on multiple parties. The geographical scope of the dissertation is limited on Amazonia and the Czech Republic. Kambo is a host of numerous biochemical interactions; in addition, it is used in socio-material context; in rituals; for gaining, or circulation of experience; or it is part of various techniques of understanding oneself, as described in later works of Michel Foucault. Due to Kambo's alleged participation on creation of human's subjective thinking, the dissertation answers the question on the extent to which Kambo could be responsible, through ethnographic lens. The results show that for those respondents who were experienced Kambo users; using the substance as a potion for treating physiological and mental issues and who were subsequently influenced by New Age movement; Kambo stands as a milestone in their life trajectories. The bachelor thesis is focused on the factors affecting the production performance of pigs. Firstly, it addresses fattening capacity, carcass value and meat quality. The next section focuses on the factors that significantly influence the production performance of pigs, including influences on the quality of the meat. The conclusion is devoted to the current parameters of production properties of pigs.
